Good morning everyone. I hope your 4th of July was safe and happy.

How great Flo, to be able to walk out your door and watch the fire works! We were lazy and chose to watch the New York fire works (Macy's) display on TV. WOW! I could almost smell the smoke!

Speaking about scents, I love the smell of the ocean, that somewhat musty, salty, warm, sandy smell. Have you ever had a balcony stateroom and kept the door open all night?

I do love the Basin also! But, my DH won't go in, to overwhelming for him, thats good though, because I can go in and touch and smell it all to my hearts content.:rotfl:

We opted to watch the fireworks from Boston. They always do such a great job. We can usually see the local ones from our back yard but we've been spoiled by Disney. :)

We love Basin as well and will have to stop by after the cruise and stock up. I also love the H20 brand they use on the ship. Used to have a store in the mall near us but it closed.
Oh, this is just so sad and must have been very frightening for the small group on board. Thank heaven it happened at a time when not many riders were aboard. There is a picture of the damage also at http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/07/05/u.s.disney.monorail/

Thanks Flo for letting us know about this.

Very sad indeed. I think the late hour and long days the drivers were working had a lot to do with it.

Question of the day:

What would you like to see on the new ships that the Magic or Wonder do not currently have?

I would like to see the new ships outfitted to make an Alaskan cruise more enjoyable. Or they could refit the Magic or Wonder to do that.

So sad about the CM, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

We are leaving in a little while for the funeral home a dear friend, a retired :firefight firefighter, who my DH and DS had worked with. Died of natural causes. Totaly unexpected.:sad:

Have to get there early since DH can not walk very far, just yet.:sad:
Service is tomorrow, So I took the morning off from work.

Sorry to hear about your friend. to you and DH.

So, I think we need another sunrise on the Wonder

Beautiful shot Ray - thanks for sharing!

Well, I am still toying with moving the first 2 nights of my December trip to a non-DVC resort. Since my trip starts on a Friday (10 nights Kidani), I have been toying with moving the first 2 nights to a deluxe (preferrably) or moderate resort that I haven't stayed at before.

I keep watching for the AP rates to come out, but nothing yet. I just went on the WDW website and priced it out and for the prices of the GF or the Poly, I won't be staying there unless there is an excellent discount. However, the moderate prices aren't that bad. So maybe I will make a switch. :rolleyes1

Robbie - when in December are you going?

Congrats to Flo on the :bride:

Congrats to Ravonne on the pirate:

PDFG and all our friends who need it.

Well, I have been thinking about driving to WDW for one of my trips instead of flying, mostly for the adventure of it. My target trip had been my Aug '10 trip with my nephew but he wasn't so keen on driving. (Its about a 20 hour drive from here.) So as I was driving down to visit my mother today, my mind was going over the options. Since it is a 1.5 hour drive, I have lots of time to think.

Anyways, since Sandi is going with me on the cruise, if we drove then I would haev 2 drivers (versus just 1 for my solo December trip). Well I called Sandi and she is game. So now we just need to figure out when we would leave and get back. This does mean that I may cancel our BCV reservation for the night before because in the scenarios that we are looking at, we would arrive in the early evening on Saturday so we may jsut want to stay near the port.

Hi everyone!

Back home from the Poconos. DH and DS survived Boy Scout camp and had a fabulous time. Went to the Kutztown Folk Festival on Saturday - it was a beautiful day and the fair was great! Definitely ate too much but the foods were fantastic! UMMMM funnel cake!

DH has been sitting behind me as we caught up with all of the news and he said he'd like to see either a "flo-rider" (that surfing like wave pool thing) or a climbing wall. I think the covered pool would be nice - like one of those retractable glass roofs.

Congrats, Flo and Ravonne on the ES and Pirate! Yeah, Ravonne now we finally have one each!! :yay:

Wow, are you sure it only takes you 20 hours from NH! We live in southern NJ, my DH has a lead foot, I'm lucky if I get a bathroom break, AND we drive in the middle of the night so no traffic! And THIS takes us 16 hours (our record time)! :rotfl2:

1 Killed, 8 Hurt in Monorail crash

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As being reported on CNN:

Quote:
Breaking News: Deadly Disney World Monorail Crash

POSTED: Sunday, July 5, 2009

At 2am Sunday morning, Reedy Creek Emergency Services responded to a call at the Ticket and Transportation Center at the Magic Kingdom. Two monorails collided. 8 people were evaluated total following the crash. One monorail driver was killed. The other driver is fine physically. There were 5 to 6 guests on the monorail at the time of the crash. Disney World Public Relations tells Local 6 that they will release more information later this morning. They are on scene right now gathering information about the incident.

A witness tells Local 6 that he heard a huge crashing noise when the monorails collided. He was able to get pictures and video of frazzled guests walking off the train.

Another report indicates that a moving pink train hit a stationary purple train.

Local 6 has obtained dramatic pictures from the scene of the crash. Stay with Local 6 for more information about this crash.

Found this on the disscussion part. My heart goes out to the family and friends and prayers to.

Okay, I'm a little behind, but OMG, how terrible. I just can't believe that this happened. How sad for the family of the CM driving the monorail. We were literally shocked when we saw this. I never ever thought this could happen. Like Flo said, we thought there were crash devices to divert a collision. So sad. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved. :sad1:

Actually, the 20 hours is without stops. I figure that we will split it into 2 or 3 days.

Sue - It usually takes us 23 hours drive time from Central Iowa. We have been leaving home around 2:30 in the morning and driving to Atlanta, GA. We usually stop around 6-7:00 pm. Talk about a long day. Last time we drove, March of 2008, was when the tornado went through downtown Atlanta, and we were driving in it! And I was driving. Scary ! :scared1:
The only good thing is we get up early the next day and the drive is not that bad then. We get to Disney by 12-1:00pm. And when they say Welcome Home, it is so worth it! :yay:

Robbie - we love driving down and the Member Cruise is the perfect time for it. You won't have to worry how to get some of those gifts (which in the past have been large) on the plane.

We usually take 2 days. First day we leave super early (like 4 am) and drive as far as Macon, GA. The next day we leave early (about 5 am) and get into Disney early afternoon.

If you are coming down 95 and getting in Saturday evening you would be better off staying at the port. Some stay at the Radisson as they allow parking there while on the cruise. We've stayed there before and it isn't bad. Our last couple of trips (not Member Cruises) we've stayed at the Hampton Inn. Easy access to the beach which we like to go to in the morning before heading over to the port. It even includes breakfast.

As for December we'll just miss you as we head home on the 3rd.

Excellent advice thanks! Yes we will be coming down 95. That is why I was thinking about maybe cancelling our BCV reservation. Also, we won't arrive in time for the precruise meet. So I am thinking about staying on the coast.

My favorite answer to what is missing from the Magic and the Wonder

With the runner up of a covered pool

I would like to see a domed pool, with a clear tops so that in bad weather you could at least go by the pool and feel out side. WOuld be nice if they could do over each pool but not sure if possible.

take care

Closely followed by shopping

MORE SHOPS!!! MORE STUFF TO BUY. LOL. And I like the idea of the pools being covered in case of bad weather. But I would shop, not swim anyhow.

Susan

I have to go look for that Bobbi Brown fragrance "Beach" Thanks Susan!

I love funnel cake, just with the powdered sugar. Unfortunately, I could eat it every day, maybe, twice a day!

The "flo-rider" sounds really fun, great idea!

Welcome home, what a wonderful thing to hear after a long trip!

Mary,

I keep thinking of the grains of sand on Castaway Cay. I hope tomorrow that your platelets are as abundant as those grains of sand. Stay strong!:grouphug:

I must have missed this...what happened to your husband that he can't walk very far? Or maybe I am asking too many questions...sorry.

WOW...he and I can compare scars!!! Hope he is doing his exercises faithfully. I hated those exercises so much...I wish I had only had one knee done at a time and I would have had to suffer X2 everytime I did those miserable exercises...

I tried to dance like I used to dance at the wedding two weeks ago...you know, the electric slide, and land of a thousand dances...and my knees just wouldn't do what I wanted them to do...I was like DARN knees...but I had fun anyway.
