09/12/10 - DVCers Take Over the Wonder (S.S. Member Cruise 2010) - Thread #2

Good Morning! In 3 weeks, we will be at Castaway Cay.:banana::banana:

So, here are some tips:

CASTAWAY CAY
1. The post office sometimes runs out of post cards. Buy your Castaway Cay Postcards at Mickey’s Mates, and fill them out prior to leaving the ship for Castaway Cay, drop them off at post office first thing, you'll save time. If the Post Office is not open, leave your post cards at guest services & ask if a CM will mail them next time the ship docks at CC. You'll need some cash for postage, so don't forget small change.

2. At Cookies BBQ, the line right in front is sometimes long (facing beach) go around the right side, and you'll find another serving station that is usually empty.

3. There is a fruit stand on the other side of Cookies, closer to the ship.

4. You can have your purchases sent to your stateroom from the shop on CC.

5. Bring a beach bag or something to lug stuff out to Castaway Cay and use on other excursions.

6. Snorkel early at CC - the bottom gets stirred up bad and visibility becomes very limited.

7. For those with kids or those who are kids at heart, bring your own sand toys for Castaway Cay.

8. There are free wagons at CC. This is very helpful for toting all your bags or little one.

9. Use baby powder to sprinkle on sandy feet, wait a second and the sand just brushes away with a towel.

10. Don’t forget to put on Safe Sea which stops jellyfish and sea lice stings.

I just read something very interesting on the cruise section of disboards. It involves using your points for cruises. Points will no longer be accepted until after Sept 2011 if then.

I was on the member cruise in 2007 & 2008.

Since you guys are going in three weeks can you please get some verification on this? I feel like DVC has mislead us not letting us pay points for any cruises now!!

Thanks,

THIS WILL BE OUR 4th MEMBER CRUISE. WE HAVE USED POINTS FOR 1 PERSON CASH FOR THE OTHER. I WAS WONDERING DOES IT SAY YOU CANT USE POINTS UNTIL SEPT 2011 IF SO WOULDNT THAT MEAN IF WE GET ON MEMBER CRUISE NEXT YEAR WE CAN STILL USE POINTS?

we actually prefer using cash, we get better value for our points at our resorts. We only use points if we dont have enough money.

This is a good topic, cash vs points, what is the going rate per person for this cruise and with the new boat will that cost be more expensive

thought id ask a canadian question.

1. What is a hoser?

heres a canadian greeting.

Hows it goin' eh!!!

I'm not from Canada, but if I wear a Montreal Canadiens or Calgary Flames t-shirt, do I get a "How's it goin', eh?"

Less than 3 weeks - can't believe it!!!!!!

TJ

PS - thanks to all for your well wishes regarding our dog - sorry to say he didn't respond to treatment....we'll miss him terribly..... It is so nice to have DVC and the cruise to look forward to and take our minds off it. Thanks again! Tim

1. Does anyone remember how much postage was/is?? I can't recall....

6. Yes, yes, yes. Last time we were at CC, it was not long after a _______ (I won't use the H word....) and the whole island was a little trashed and the sand churned up after a storm.... Looking foward to actually SEEING SOMETHING this time!!!

9. Never heard of this - sounds like a great tip!

10. Where can I get some of this??? Has these little varmints been a problem at CC lately?????

Thanks again M for your great tips!!!!

I would think the Members Cruise is handled somewhat differently ............... as it is a Charter and not in the regular schedule ........... DVC not taking DVC Points that would be Something ........:confused3

If you like snorkling try SERENITY BAY. Thats where we always go. We have seen large Starfish Lobster and different fish out past and around the end of the markers dividing the Adult beach and the CMs beach. Last year we saw Baracuda swim by and in between people who didnt realize he swam between them (until I told them)

I guess too many people were using points. It's just not right to change the rules after we have all bought in.

Have a great cruise! We loved the member cruises and when it gets to be a 7 day we will be back!!

Hi! We have done a couple of member cruises in the past. Can you all do me a favor while you are on the member cruise ask about the new policy that they will only allow so many cabins that can use points. We bought more points in April because we like to use our points for the cruises. I know it is not the most effecient use of points but it was the chioice we made. We are scheduled for the 8/23/11 Alaskian cruise that I was going to change to points and now they are saying that we can not do this. I am really upset about this since that was our plan when we added on points and now they are saying we can not do that. It is almost like they pulled a bait and switch on me. It is going to be expensive getting to Vancover and using our points was going to help the cash outlay. We probably will not be able to go on the cruise if we can not use points because we paid for the additional points in April. I am hoping if enough people raise the issue then they may reconsider. Thanks!!! Have a great time!

You mean this guy. CM's told us that there is one Baracuda that is always around and doesn't bother anyone.

I've never tried tip #9 but saw it on the DIS. I will try it this time around.

You can purchase safe sea at buysafesea dot com & at Ron Jon.

Here are a couple of links about peope's experience with sea lice at CC & where to apply it.
