09/08/07 Early Check in September 8, 2007 Western

Hi, everyone. I'm DRCLAWS other half. We're somewhere on Deck 7, don't remember where, with early dining. Just the two of us.

On our last cruise we met at 3 PM in the Promenade lounge. It seemed to be a great way to get the kids to know one another a little bit, and people had time to eat before the meet and still get to the drill on time.

DH and I are in for the lei idea as well.

SS Oceanlover, we're basically from Philly as well, so going to Pat Croce's bar sounds like a lot of fun.

HELLO FELLOW DIS'ERS:yay: :yay: , I AM NEW TO THE THREAD BUT HAVE BEEN READING IT PERIODICALLY OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS AND NOW THAT THE CRUISE IS JUST A FEW MONTHS AWAY, I FIGURED IT WAS TIME TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE GANG!! :banana: :banana:

THIS WILL BE OUR 4TH DCL CRUISE AND FIRST TRIP TO MEXICO, WE ARE VERY EXCITED. IT WILL BE ME, DH, AND DD (7). I LOOK FORWARD TO CORRESPONDING WITH OTHER DIS'ERS WITH CHILDREN OF SIMILAR AGES. ON OUR LAST CRUISE I WAS ON A DIS MEET AND WAS DELIGHTED THAT MY DD HAD FRIENDS TO PLAY WITH THAT SHE ALREADY KNEW BEFORE WE EVEN GOT ON THE SHIP!

SINCE A NUMBER OF US WILL HAVE SMALL CHILDREN, MAY I RECOMMEND THAT WE MEET AT 3PM NEAR THE BEVERAGE STATION NEXT TO THE MICKEY POOL? AS SOON AS WE GET ON THE SHIP, WE HEAD TO LUNCH AND THEN IT'S STRAIGHT TO THE POOL TILL ITS TIME FOR THE FIRE DRILL. THAT WAY THE KIDS CAN PLAY WHILE THE ADULTS INTRODUCE THEMSELVES.

LASTLY, COUNT DH AND MYSELF IN FOR THE PUB CRAWL, WE LIKE TO PARTY, OUR HONEYMOON WAS IN KEY WEST!:love: :love:

Hey Kinseysmom,
Welcome! I think if all want to meet at the pool, it would be great. I have a DS8. This is our first cruise ever. It will be me, DH, and Ds. I was hoping for the kids to have the chance to meet up also to get familiar with each other before we actually set sail. I think we are all gonna figure out a great place to meet, I like the pool idea. SInce it's my first cruise I'm not familiar with the drills, lunch time, or even the ship, but I'm game for whatever. It's great to have you on our cruise, welcome.

Dh and I will take 2 and Im still trying to get DD to sign in to the disboards.. DD and DSIL are joning us on this part of the cruise. So make it 4.

the other Ann:lmao:

So I was reading someonelses trip report from a cruise from last month. They planned their "spa time" during a character breakfast and had no idea. How will I know when everything is going on so I can plan my stuff around it? I don't want that to happen to me. I want to do the spa, and also Palo for dinner, but how do I know what night to plan for it so it doesn't overlap with something else?

TinkerbellTris... go to www.castawayclub.com and look for I thinks it dining. It has a list of all sorts of things relating to the dinning... what type of dinning... rotation or special... breakfasts... its a very good link. Check it out.

Ann

You are so welcome ! That site has some great things in it.. keep looking you'll find all sorts of things about the ships and cruising. Even has pics of the WD Suite and the RO Suite!
Just to drop a hint....(insert clearing throat here) there is two of our cruisers has the Both suites! Perhaps we might be able to convince them to let us have a PEEK Inside??
Did I go "over board" on the hint???:rotfl2:

Ann

Shoes 99 I added you up in my list a few posts above.
Ann.... Hmmmm, I didn't know some have the suites. A little convincing and just maybe we can have peek. How cool that must be to have the suite. I so would have loved it. Those lucky duckies!!!! I would love to have a peek though, from the pictures they look so awesome. What a great trip we are all gonna have!

Just to let you know that I already have plans for Key West. Since football season starts this week I asked on a Ports of Call board on another site where to watch the Eagles game. They told me there is a place called , "The Rum Barrel" owned by Philadelphian Pat Croce and the place is full of Eagles fans.

So I'll either be there or I'll be watching the game on the ship or there.

If you want I can get all the info on the places you want to visit on your pub crawl. I have plenty of free time.

Looks like we dock at Key West at 11:30am and leave at 7:30pm.

The leis sound great. Whatever everybody decides on is fine with us.:cool1:

I was looking last night at transportation sites for future reference and found a page with a nice 2 minute DCL video on it.

If anybody is is interested here is the link.

Thanks Bill for the link... looks very nice.
Dh and I and DD and DSIL will be using the old DCL busses listening to all the giggling and the yelling! Then you add all the kid noises!:lmao: DD and DSIL have never cruised DCL before and I think the bus is half the fun arriving at the port. Let's see .... hmmm the last time I was in a limo....I dont remember when... it must have been a long time ago.
BTW... I love the siggy you posted... perhaps we all could use that as our door signs ? did someone else say that too?

Ann

Put me in for the leis. Maybe if we can get a count of how many of us will be a the DWD meet friday night, we can pass some out then. That would make it easier for people showing up at the port to contact others in the DIS group. I know that at least the five in my group will be at the Friday night meet. I will go with what ever the group decides as a whole to do. I would be willing to bring the leis to the meet if the group would like that. But I like the idea.

Wecome to all the new folks. This is just getting so exciting. I will respond to some of the other post as I have time to go back. Really glad to see increased activity.

For the newcomers there is some general information about our plans and ETC in the first post on the first page. Lois

s.s. couldn't see your link!

i know they are also available at www.orientaltrading.com
the nicer ones are $9.95 a dozen, so less than $1 each!

stina :wave2:

I would prefer the cloth leis even if they are a little more. This will be so much fun.

sorry about that. Try this one.

leis from Party City

Bill

Thanks for the link. We can never have too many options or can we???

On second thought...giving out leis at port might be a BAD idea. Because random folks will see us giving out leis and want one and it might cause a ruckus and I'm sure DCL would not appreciate that. So I'm thinking we should distribute leis at our first meet which if possible could maybe be BEFORE the sail away party? Anyone know the time-logisitics of this. I know we board the ship, eat lunch, check into our staterooms (approx. 1:30pm), then there's some open time then the safety drill then sailaway right after that. So what do you guys think? Last time I attended a DISmeet on the Magic it was in the promenade lounge which seems to be a nice open space for meeting.

Thoughts????

stina :wave2:

I think that if a few of us who are planning meets have some to pass out at the meets that would be cool. Then the others in the group who want one can approch a person with one to find out how to get one. If they approch and ask then I would assume they would most likely be part of the group. Then to finish we can have the meet at 3PM for anyone who still desires one. I would be willing to help purchase them if needed. I think we should have a few extra for those that might decide at the last moment to join.

O.k. So a meet on board to pass out the leis is a good idea. I'm all for it. Let decide on a place to meet. Also who is planning the pj breakfast? I'm all for that as well. Alright no plastic leis, so lets do the fabric ones. At $9.95 for a dozen, it's still cheap and will be fun.

I agree that is an awesome idea. Again if a few of us have our leis to begin with it will be easier to get together.

You can add Grandma4ever for at least 2 and Twin Princesses for 3

So I was reading someonelses trip report from a cruise from last month. They planned their "spa time" during a character breakfast and had no idea. How will I know when everything is going on so I can plan my stuff around it? I don't want that to happen to me. I want to do the spa, and also Palo for dinner, but how do I know what night to plan for it so it doesn't overlap with something else?

The charactor breakfasts are normally on the days at sea. That is easy for the eastern there are 3 sea days. I supect that on the western it is the morning we hit Key West, Monday morning and Thursday Morning. I do not know how you will know which of those morning your breakfast will be because each rotation is assigned one morning. The early diners go first and the late diners go later. I doubt any of this will help you decide when to schedule a spa treatment unless you avoid the mornings.

Aww thanks for the info Lois. That will help me better to plan. I added you and Twinprincesses to the list for the leis. I think it's such a great idea. Our group is growing and it's so exciting. I can't wait. And to think it's basically May, which means for most of us Sometime in June we can book our excurssions and stuff. WHOOOHOOOO! It's gonna be such a fun cruise. However we want to establish purchasing and passing out the leis is good with me, Stina and myself also offered to purchase them. I know for sure I will not be able to attend any meets before the actual cruise dates, and I found out we won't be at port until 12:30p.m. I still want to help with whatever I can though. Just let me know. I think Stina mentioned a PJ breakfast sometime back on one of the pages, I'm totally in for that. I think the kids would absolutly LOVE IT. As I would as well. Hahah DH will attend in his clothes.

So the question is can we find Lime Green leis? Do we want to use the multi colored ones? It really dosen't matter to me.

Anyone know what the best time would be for the PJ Breakfast? I would think a day at sea but then we could have DISer who have their Character Breakfast and will need to choose between the two. Anyone been on a Western and know which morning has worked best. Anyone know what needs to be done to set this up with DCL. I guess we would need a count of how many people were planing on attending and notify DCL so we could set together.

Ladyemmaann and I talked and agree that the ty dyed shrits would be nice but a nightmare to get done for the group. If we had started last September but now there really isn't time.

I have a few e-mail address to send out the roster but could use a few more. So if you want a copy of the roster please PM me your e-mail address. If you can't make that PM system work, make a post and let me know and I will PM you with my e-mail address and solve the problem that way. I will not post addresses.

In the roster I am trying to connect our screen names to our birth or the name we use day to day. I am collecting the ages of kids and adults if the adults don't care. What State room you are in or at least catagory, As well as what dining rotation (Early or late) and if there is anything special for you and yours during the trip (Celebrating a birthday or anniverary) I have recieved some of the info but ther are still many blank spots. So if you are new or returning and have not PM that information to me. That would be great.

However, I must say that if you are not comfortable disclosing the info that is fine too. It just may take a little longer for us to get to know who you are. I know in this age, anytime you disclose personal information it can be risky and most of you don't know me from that pot hole on the interstate. I will respect your decision to wait to disclose that info. We will have 7 days and at least several activities to get together.

I believe we are still looking for a person to set up a Secret Mickey and the Jammie Breakfast. I would be happy to contact DCL and assist with the Jammie thing if someone else will step up. I need it to be someone who has the other late rotation so if one of us has the Charactor breakfast hopfully one of us will be free to go to the Jammie Breakfast. I need to know who to contact and how many adults and kids to expect.

Well I think that is enough said. Hope everyone has an awesome weekend. Lois

Lois,

I will do a search for lime green leis. If they are available I like the idea. Although I am committed to getting high quality fabric leis vs. plastic. They're just so awesome! I have to confess, every time I visit the Polynesian, even if I'm not staying there, I take one of the leis they are offering. It's just so tropical and vaction-y!

I'm so excited about this trip and the exciting group of DISers we have mobilized to meet and have fun. Seriously, this is the best cruise thread ever!!!

S.S. - If you are familiar with the layout of Key West I would love help determining which bars are close to each other. I'm not that familiar with Key West since I've only been there once. I know Sloppy Joe's and Irish Kevin's are right near each other, but that Margaritaville is farther away. I have no idea where Hog's Breath and Turtle Crawl are. So any links you can send me if you have time would be majorly helpful! I appreciate it.

Aloha party people! :banana: :banana: :banana:

I just did a google search for leis and came up with a couple of options.
Take a look at the colors and styles and let me know what you think. I'm still wedded to the silk flower leis. I found some that are green and white though not technically "lime green". I also prefer the bright multicolor ones because they scream PARTY (we're not going for hawaiian authenticity here) and they have lime green in them as one of the flower colors which gave me a great idea. At one of my land DISmeets I gave out these lime green foam mickey heads that I had designed. They are tie-ons designed for bags and luggage. They are the perfect waterproof identifier for use at WDW. I've been trying to get as many people as possible to use them so one day I can see my own design on some stranger at WDW and I know I will have gone global. :rotfl2:

So...long story short. I think I can incorporate these lime green foam mickey heads onto the multi color leis. We can attach them to the ends and write each person's DISname on them. That would be a great way to get in some visible lime green and have our user names visible for all to see. So that's a thought.

Here are the links ot the leis I found:

Oriental Trading: $9.95/doz
http://www.orientaltrading.com/appl...MF1&N=377378&sd=MULTICOLOR+DOUBLE+FLOWER+LEIS

Party Supplies for all Occasions: $11.81/doz
http://summerfun.makesparties.com/C...CategoryID=2976&intDisplayableProductID=55352

Party Supplies for all Occasions: $10.82/doz
http://summerfun.makesparties.com/C...CategoryID=2976&intDisplayableProductID=56918

Again, I like the idea of a DIS accessory that we can put on over our regular clothes. As I mentioned my family and I are already wearing matching shirts for the first day so it's good to be able to layer my identifiers!

3 posts in a row. :) this one is for you all you :drinking1 pub crawlers. I did some preliminary research this morning and narrowed it down to these bars:

* Hog's Breath Saloon /400 Front St.

* Rum Barrel / 528 Front St.

* Sloppy Joe's / 201 Duval St.

* Fat Tuesday / 305 Duval St.

* Irish Kevin's / 211 Duval St.

* Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville / 424A. Fleming St.

The good news is that all these bars are kind of on a loop, Front St. connects to Duval St. which connects to Fleming and back around. So very convenient. We'll just have to determine an order and a timeline. These are the bars that looked the most fun from their web sites. All you bucaneers will LOVE the Rum Barrel. It is connected to the Pirate Soul museum which I planned on doing anyway.

Drink prices that I could find online average about $6.50 and alot of these places serve tasty appetizers too which I will definitely need so I can keep metabolizing alchohol. :rotfl: I'm planning on wearing my favorite Margaritaville Tshirt and my lei! :woohoo: And I just may need that tag that says "If toasted, please pay tab and return to the Disney Magic" :lmao:

I am presuming this is an adults only activity as most bars don't allow children in them even during the day.

We are going to have SO MUCH FUN!!! :yay:
