09/08/07 Early Check in September 8, 2007 Western

Hey guys. Sorry no posts, I've been out of town for work again. When is this cruise gonna get here!!!! Anyway, just wanted to say I'm in for the lei's, or whatever we decide to do. I'm more outgoing than my DH, I'm usually down with whatever. But I think something that would identify us all as a big group would be nice, and a nice ice breaker for DH not to be so quiet. I'm in, let me know what we decide. I also printed up Bill's cool door sign, I'm gettin our names on it and getting it made up for the cruise as well. It would be nice if we all had the same door sign. Anyone else print it to use it?

Welcome Back!!! We only have 136 day to this cruise. It will be here before we are ready. Janet and I leave 9/1/07. So lets get planing.

So far I believe we have talked about:
Jammie Breakfast,
Secert Mickey,
Ice cream eating contest,
Having something to help ID ourselves.
Bar Crawl
( That is Stina's baby and from what I can tell it will be a really good group)

Anything else?

Next question who is going to organize these activities? I have never done any thing like this so I don't know who to call or how to work with DCL. I am willing to help if there is some one who can take the lead. I will check that first post to see what I missed. If there are any other ideas now is the time to put it out there.

Anyone else have correction or additions to the roster. Oh I have an idea what about linking our dinning together. Those who have early and those who have late? Again I would help with that if someone would tell me what to do.

My thoughts:

* ID item should be something unisex (for both adults and kids) and easy to produce or purchase and distribute. If Ann is committed to tie-dying a bunch of shirts I'm cool with that too. I just don't have time for that level of work.

* Love the idea of jammie breakfast. Some friends of ours on the last cruise did a Jammie movie, where they wore their pj's to a movie on the ship. That's a good idea too.

* Ice cream eating contest. If it's mickey bars my DP may just be able to tear it up! :rotfl:

* Secret Mickey: Love the idea but personally I can't commit to the work of getting & bringing 7 days worth of gifts. On the last DISmeet I organized we did a modified version of this in a "Yankee Swap" style. Each person brings ONE gift, $10 or less, and we put them all on a table and then swapped. It was so easy and worked out even. There was no need to draw names because # of people who bring gifts are # of people who get gifts and it's a great icebreaker. We didn't keep it much of a secret though, we just signed our usernames on the gifts and labeled them for "man" "woman" or "child".

* Pub Crawl: I will be happy to organize this. And loosely "lead". :rotfl2:
I think we arrive into port about noon, and I planned on doing one excursion there before I get under the influence, so I will try to figure out the timing on this and the best route pub-to-pub and set up a meeting time at the dock so we can all go together and migrate as a group. My general thoughts are one drink and food if required per bar so we can keep it moving. I am assuming this is an adults only activity since kids aren't allowed in bars. Sorry kids!

Woohoo! :woohoo: We're going on a cruise!!!

stina :wave2:

Thanks Lois.
I liked the Lei idea, I think Stina suggested it a few posts back. That's unisex, In Oahu they made pink for women and blue for men. I have no idea how they did it but thats what we got when we landed. But the lei idea was great. Pub crawl sounds like fun, but I do not drink at all, my dh does, but won't go without me, and we have ds8. :(
The Jammie breakfast sounds so fun. I would totally participate. DH would go in clothes, but me and DS would definatly participate. We should set a day and time. I will set it all up if you want me to. I have tomorrow (Thursday) off. I can work on the details if you want me to.
The tye dye idea was good too, but I think the lei's would be cheaper, I have no idea where we would get the lei's or how to do it. I think who ever is planning to get to the prot early could be the official lei hander outer. Haha But they do cost, I have no idea how much or how to organize that.
I would love to plan a meet for those staying at WDW but I think Pretty in Tink has a plan for that, we will not be able to participate because we have 4 nights and 3 days to tear up wdw and ride everything we can sit on.Haha, But I want to do a meet at the port. Whew, that was a mouthful. Anyone else with ideas?

Of all these I like the lei idea best. I have no idea what DH and I are going to want to do so the only thing I know I can say for somewhat sure is the Sailaway Meet. I haven't discussed any of this yet with him...was going to wait til he got back from deployment.

Stina thanks. I saw the other link from Bill, but I couldn't find the lei's on there. O.k. I'm definatly down for doing the leis for us disers. That would be cool. I like the idea of them being less than $1.00 and they look great. Now how can we arrange this? I won't be at the port until 12:30p.m. I'm being picked up from Wilderness Lodge at 11:15a.m. So how do we do this? Anyone have some ideas?

ooooh, thank you Bill. O.k. on this site they are offering 144 leis for $24.95. They are the plastic ones. Thats a good price. What do you all think? Any ideas for how to go about handing them out? I guess one person can buy them, then we can pay the person back at the port, or we can prepay for them. You know like send the money (check) to the person ordering. I would be happy to set it all up. But lets get a list of takers for the leis. So I guess that's the posing question. Who all wants to do the leis? How many in each of your parties? I can buy them, and bring them. I just won't be at the port until 12:30p.m. If that's o.k. with you all, it's fine with me. I would want to meet up with at least one of you to help me out with it. Well, who's in for the leis? And I guess once we get a list we can decide who to order from, we've got 2 great links thanks to Bill, and Stina.

:confused3
Ok.. Identifying signs. Are you all thinking of same sign for those going to Land and sail.. or different ones?
Stina and I have typed about this. Ty dy shirts..Wrist bands or lei.
Shirts --we would need sizes, designs, time to do them (tydy) or send them. Wrist bands -- ya cant see from a distance. Lei---bought in 12 packs for much ezer price..

NOW again I ask.. Same sign to id Dis Land and Sail or one sign for Land nother for Sail???

I just used one Bill designed for the cruise. We rae doing the land part for 3 days before the cruise, but I didn't know we were doing land signs. I'm all for it though, if that's what we are doing. I was also trying to pull together a meet at the port thing for the leis, but no one has let me know yet if they want to do it. Wrist bands would be hard, I agree there. The tydy shirt I would never get my husband to wear it. I'm open for whatever.

Your husband sounds like A very sensible man. Is he doing the pj breakfast, pub crawl etc?

Bill

Yeah he'll do the breakfast...but he'll be in his clothes. Haha. As for the pub crawl he wanted to do it but I don't drink, and we have DS8 with us. I figure if we are off the ship and a big group is going we'll tag along, I can wait outside with DS8, I'm sure there are things to do. It sounds like your not gonna be at each bar too awful long anyway. How many are you all hitting up?

If I went to the breakfast I'd be in my clothes too.:cool1:

Where is this pub crawl being done? I keep reading about it but haven't seen specifics.

Bill

I have no idea where they are going on the pub crawl. I heard Stina was in charge of that, but I could be wrong. The only thing we really have planned for key west is the Pirate shipwreck museum. I thought the pub crawl looked fun for my Dh, but I don't know any specifics. Anyone know what the plan is for the pub crawl?

Yes, Pub Crawl...that's me! Plan is to go to several popular Key West bars on a planned route. Some that I thought of were: Sloppy Joe's, Hogsbreath, Turtle Crawl, Irish Kevin's and Margaritaville. I would say one drink per bar and then we keep it moving! I've got to do a little research: find out what time we port, what the proximity of these bars is to each other and how best to schlep as a group. So more on that at a later time. I would imagine that the crawl would take at least 3 hours.

As for leis, I'm all about getting some that are fabric not plastic. Like the nice fabric ones they always give out at the Polynesian.

Here's a link to the ones I thought were fun, they're kind of bright wild colors, but I say the brighter the better:

http://www.orientaltrading.com/appl...ial&N=377378&sd=MULTICOLOR+DOUBLE+FLOWER+LEIS

They are $9.95 a dozen. We can figure out a solid number to order in August. I think it woud be great to hand them out to DISers at port. I could come wearing a lei and help distribute them. I don't mind being the one to purchase the leis and I can be refunded $1 at a time whenever!

Thanks!

stina :wave2:

On second thought...giving out leis at port might be a BAD idea. Because random folks will see us giving out leis and want one and it might cause a ruckus and I'm sure DCL would not appreciate that. So I'm thinking we should distribute leis at our first meet which if possible could maybe be BEFORE the sail away party? Anyone know the time-logisitics of this. I know we board the ship, eat lunch, check into our staterooms (approx. 1:30pm), then there's some open time then the safety drill then sailaway right after that. So what do you guys think? Last time I attended a DISmeet on the Magic it was in the promenade lounge which seems to be a nice open space for meeting.

Thoughts????

Ann: I just wanted to add, I am not negating your tie dye idea. I think it's wonderful that you came up with that. I think if you find a group of people who will sport the shirts you should go for it! Myself, I already bought matching Mickey polo shirts for me, my partner and my inlaws to wear. So we'll be the ones looking all nerdy in our matching polo shirts.

stina :wave2:

Just to let you know that I already have plans for Key West. Since football season starts this week I asked on a Ports of Call board on another site where to watch the Eagles game. They told me there is a place called , "The Rum Barrel" owned by Philadelphian Pat Croce and the place is full of Eagles fans.

So I'll either be there or I'll be watching the game on the ship or there.

If you want I can get all the info on the places you want to visit on your pub crawl. I have plenty of free time.

Looks like we dock at Key West at 11:30am and leave at 7:30pm.

The leis sound great. Whatever everybody decides on is fine with us.:cool1:

I was looking last night at transportation sites for future reference and found a page with a nice 2 minute DCL video on it.

If anybody is is interested here is the link.

O.k. So a meet on board to pass out the leis is a good idea. I'm all for it. Let decide on a place to meet. Also who is planning the pj breakfast? I'm all for that as well. Alright no plastic leis, so lets do the fabric ones. At $9.95 for a dozen, it's still cheap and will be fun.
