He also told us a little bit about what he called the "onboard mafia". He didn't mean it in a bad way, but it was what life was like.
He and his roommate had a cabin steward which they tipped. He would also tip the head waiter for better table assignments, the kitchen staff to get his food up in a hurry and sometimes he would tip a co-worker to reset the tables after the second seating. They had to be done before he left the dining room for the breakfast seatings. If he was tired which he always was, he would slip someone some cash to set up his area so he could get a few extra moments of sleep.
