To the oblivious parent at the school,

Today was Halloween costume parade day. Perhaps you missed the line up of 15 or so parents with cameras standing behind you who now have YOU in all of their shots.

We know you want pictures of your kid, but guess what so does everyone else!!! You didn't take the hint when people moved in front of you, you just kept moving forward.

Please consider there are other photographers on the grounds next time you want that "perfect shot" of your child....WE DO TOO!!!

I feel your pain! I just came from 2 parades, the upper elementary for DD11 and lower for DS5. Now, the issue I have is parking. I need to get to the schools 45 minutes ahead, just so I can park and not have to walk 15 minutes!! DD school isn't too bad, by DS's, OY. I also have 2 shcools within walking distance of my house, I see one from my driveway, but DS goes to the lower school furthest away. I had to drive from DD to DS's school and was stuck in traffic in front of the other 2 schools, it wasn't moving. I also got stuck in it on the way home. It is insane, a five minute drive took about 20!! There has to be a better way :confused3 .

I get the bad mommy award today. Both kids were a little off yesterday, but seemed ok this am, so I sent them off with relief that they'd get to participate in the festivities, and a little trepidation that I'd get "a call"...

Got dd from preschool at lunchtime without incident. She's fine.

Ds had "lunch buddies", only the 2nd time that's worked out. (He doesn't usually stay for lunch, but there's a special social event supposedly every week.) That with the class Hallowe'en party--big day. I didn't want him to miss it, but also knew it would be a long day.

So, all's clear AFAIK, and I've got my sis' hopes up that dd and I will come in for lunch. So I pick up dd from preschool and we head off...it's an hour round-trip to my sis' place. I double-checked that I had my cell in my purse, and it was on. No news is good news, and we arrive back to get ds at the usual dismissal time, I timed the drive well.

He trots out with the resource teacher. "I guess you didn't get my message". She called twenty minutes after I left home, ds was lethargic all morning and "white as a sheet" by the time he sat down to lunch. Wouldn't eat. Actually had a nap instead of eating his lunch or participating in the lunch program. She also called my cell but said it went straight to voice mail...she tried me again at home but of course I wasn't there. So, my sick kid was around for the rest of the day wondering when Mom was going to come...apparently he was glad to be there for the party even though he ate nothing, and he was excited to tell me about the other kids' costumes and such...but OUCH! I don't know what happened iwth my cell, it's not showing missed calls, and I had it with me. Maybe we were out of range for some odd reason (still in the city), I didn't have it out of my purse, so wouldn't have noticed. And any other day, I would've picked him up at noon for lunch at home and seen how sick he was...

So. No trick or treating for either kid. Dd is reeeeeally disappointed but with dh away on business this week, there's nothing I can do. I told them every time a trick or treater rings our bell, they can also choose a treat from Mommy's large and varied stash...We're new to our suburban neighbourhood, I hope we get enough trick or treaters to keep my kids amused.

And ds will be home tomorrow.

Joanne,
I'm sorry DS isn't feeling well. But we've all been there. The summer before last I signed DD (then 7) up for a weeklong soccer camp that was like $180 for the week. The first day she came home saying she didn't really like it. The next morning she said she didn't feel well. I told her, "You said you wanted to go, so I paid for it, and you are going."

She looked at me, and said she was too sick to get dressed, so I said "okay then you have to go to bed." I swear I thought she was faking it. Well she went back to bed, and slept until 4pm! I felt so bad that I was about to send her off to camp for the day.

Too bad about the trick or treating. Just hit the candy sales tomorrow though and I'm sure DD will be happy. And at that age, she can wear her costume around town and no one will bat an eye.

I ended up not getting home until 7pm tonight. I called the house to tell DD not to open the door to any trick or treaters before I got home. She said, "what are you talking about?" I said, "it's halloween." She was like "oh I forgot."

I think I missed the group of Americans who went around en masse. We only had 3 visits from trick or treaters, which is fine with me. I'm just not in the mood.

Tomorrow is a Belgian holiday, but I'm going in to work so I can take the day after Thanksgiving off without taking leave. But I found out that since everyone will be off they are taking the internet down. :scared1:

I may have to actually do real work for a change. :scared:

When my DS was in the 7th grade, he kept telling me he didn't feel well. He didn't want to go to school. I thought he was having some kind of school trouble. This went on for three weeks. I finally took him to the doctor--who diagnosed him with mono! For the rest of his school years, I never questioned him again when he said he was sick!

Aww, poor kid. I hope he feels better soon. So few "fun" days at school and to be sick for one of them must really be annoying.

Awwww ALL these poor sicky kids  I do hope they ALL get better quick !! Better now and over with then on the cruise :thumbsup2

Ok... funny story.

DH and I put pretty much all our purchases on one credit card. It's an airline miles card and we can wrack up some free flights this way. "All our purchases" on a daily basis amounts to groceries, gas, eating out a couple times a week, etc. But, in the last two weeks, I've put on the cruise, flights for the cruise, the hotel for the night before, travel insurance and two additional airline tickets for us to go spend Christmas with my grandmother in Alabama.

He's been working a lot lately and has really let his wardrobe go, so he decided he was ready for a change and asked a couple of "trendy" people he works with to go shopping with him today and get him outfitted.

Well, they were apparently burning up the shopping center because halfway through the day, I get a text message on my phone from him that the Credit Card company has placed a freeze on our card from all the "unusual spending trends" lately. :lmao: :rotfl2: He had to call and go through all our security information with them to verify it hadn't been stolen by some crazed Disney fan taking a whole new wardrobe on vacation with them. :lmao:

I'm thinking I'm going to give them a call before the cruise and tell them not to freeze it again if they happen to see some purchases coming from the Caribbean ;)

Julie, I'm sorry for the delay - this is on page 338 or so - but this was so funny I had to say something. Sitting here at my desk at work, I laughed out loud!:lmao: Thanks for that!

Going home to the trick-or-treaters soon. Picking up pizza first. Yummy! And leftover candy for dessert. Yummy yummy! :yay: Sometimes I have to set a little aside so that I have leftovers, but that still counts as leftovers... right?:rolleyes1

:wizard: a little pixie dust for all the  little ones. maybe you can get a few friends to keep the decorations up so he/she can go when they feel better.

I'm going back now, catching up backwards, and I just saw that there are sick young'uns around. I'm so sorry everyone. I know I always feel helpless when my (not so) little one is ill. I wish there was a secret pill you could give them to make them well. I think that's one of the hardest parts about being a parent - not being able to fix it when something is wrong.

Hope everyone has a speedy and uneventful recovery. Healthy vibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

DS left for work.. 5 - 9 tonight.. I do hope he gets some good tips tonight, since it is a Parade night and MOST of NJ will be at the parade Early enough to get a good seat, I'm not too sure how many people will be ordering Take Out..

DH should be home any minute.. He called and asked if I would like D & D Coffee.. I said YES!! I can use it today..

Earlier we did have enough water pressure so I could shower before work so I was a Happy Camper.. But, before DS left he turned on the Hot water and he said it was semi brown :scared: I keep checking the dishwasher because it is running and I don't want dirt water on my dishes

I do hope they do something to fix the town's Water Tower :sad2:

I Like the way you think :thumbsup2

We had a small bowl set aside with "use as the LAST resort" in case we needed it.. :confused3

We are trying to make it so that DH & I will NEVER have to fly from NJ to Orlando with a Checked in Suitcase again.. :cloud9:

I'm trying to do the opposite :lmao: so I don't have to carry anything ..... except my camera

:scared: DH came home, he has Poison Ivy on his Ear :scared:

He isn't sure what he touched but he is allergic to Poison Ivy & Oak and all those Poison Plants.. as well as Benadryll :sad2: So he can't even take anything for it..

DH says he is hungry so Off I go to cook him some Pork Chops

The Boss comes back tomorrow, from 3 weeks in Italy. :scared:

Just kidding. Sort of. :rolleyes1

It's been very quiet here, all by my lonesome. Sometimes it's been great, but sometimes I get bored out of my head. I'm sure she'll keep me busy all day telling me of her adventures.

My DS is very excited about tonight. He got his costume last time he was at his dad's house. It's some sort of evil jester thing.:confused3 It's not something I would have gone with, but then, it's not my costume!

3 minutes until I can turn the copmputer off and jet! :hourglass

I figure they won't fire me for DISing the last few minutes of the day. Right? ;)
