I actually have a cruise question!

Has anyone ever seen a post office in St Thomas? I went to usps.com and they don't even recognize the zip code for St Thomas even though it is a US Virgin Island.

I was thinking it might be easier to send home a package from there to free up some luggage space. We'll have had formal night and pirate night by then, so all that stuff could take a slow boat home.

I have not, but I'm sure they must have. On our tour the first trip the guide mentioned the IRS several times! :rotfl2: :lmao: So, it would make sense the USPS would be there also.

I added another section to the blog with the following info:

Emergency contact information while onboard

Mailing packages to the Ship

Mailing packages home from St Thomas, USVI

Directions to the Port

If there's any other important info you want added, please let me know.

Wendy

Thanks for that, my task this week was to find the emergency contact info while on-board.

Hmmm....what do you guys wear on formal nite?? I don't have a gown, I was planning on wearing a black dress (is long, but just because I am short and I didn't want/need it tailored). I am packing a suit for DH.

So tell me, what does everyone wear for the 7 nite, we have only been on the 3 niter. What should I pack??

For me, I'm thinking Dress shirt and Tie. I don't own a suit, and am not sure if I'll be buying one just for this cruise. Probably go with a shirt and tie for the boys too.

My parents' house is surrounded by huge oak trees and my Mom had been out washing the car one day and had just been talking away about washing the car and the problem with the trees, and so on and so on.

About a week later, they go outside again and my nephew pipes up with, "Nana, I wish I was a bird." And my Mom is thinking 'oh, how sweet... he wants to fly and be free and chase the wind.' And then he goes "Then I'd poop on your car." :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

She'd apparently said something about how the birds in the trees poop on her car every time she washes it and he remembered it a week later.

I am :lmao: :rotfl2: LOVING all these kid stories this morning.

Anyway, back to the cruise. I'd also read another thread where people ship boxes ahead to the warehouse at the port that stores stuff for Disney and they'll deliver the boxes to your room. I was thinking I might do that for some stuff too. Like the SS gifts, cheap beach floats, etc. I guess I'll wait till closer to the time and see how much space all that kinda stuff would take up.

Can you tell I'm adverse to packing a lot? :headache: I've just gotten so used to carryon only, that it bugs me. I guess it really shouldn't considering we hardly even touch the stuff. Especially since we're using Disney transfers. But hey, those 12 steps from the front door to the cab are annoying. :rotfl:

We shipped ahead last year. We sent a couple of bottles of wine that we made to the resort and carried it on board. Also shipped our SS stuff. Our group will be shipping some stuff this year. Diapers for the two babies that are with us and such.

Your dress and his suit will be perfect! :thumbsup2

That will work. You will not feel out of place. People dress from shirt and tie to tux and everything in between. You will see a couple that refuse to dress up just because they like to make a statement, but for the most part people dress nice. DrHug will be wearing his dark suit this year, me dressy pantsuit.

Ok, here's another one then...

Last night Ryan (2 in December) is snuggling with me in the recliner watching TV. He's nodding off, almost asleep, when he sits bolt upright, looks at me with big eyes, sticks his finger in his nose and says "Booger, Nose". Then he gets off the chair, walks in by Mom, and repeats it 3 more times. The way he was saying it was funny, but what got me was the suddenness of the entire episode... I don't know where he learned "Booger" from, but he sure knew what it meant...... and where it was...

:rotfl2:

I work in Community and Economic Development, with the Community Development Block Grant from HUD. There is an office in St. Thomas. I threatened my boss with the fact that I would go there and apply for the equivalent of my job! If there's an office that deals with HUD, there's got to be a Post Office. We generate more paperwork that has to be mailed than anyone else I've ever seen!

Beth, I was looking at your pictures. Did the Magic and Wonder both dock at Castaway Cay? I didn't think there would be room for two ships. Were you just passing by? Tell me about it.

Magic was docked at CC. Wonder was having its sea day. The next day was our CC day because the schedule had been switched due to the Thanksgiving weekend, and the weather was pretty bad everywhere else but CC. When I got up in the morning, I thought that was CC in the distance, but no one said anything. The Captain made no mention of it until it was very obvious that we were pulling up within few hundred yards of Magic and CC. It was a lot of fun. A lot of the CM's on both ships were waving to each other, and there was quite a battle of horns. We were having brunch at Palo, and our server offered to take the once-in-a-lifetime photo in my sig. Wonder actually got much closer than the sig photo, as you know since you've seen my pictures.

It was a lot of fun to come home and read the trip reports from the DIS'ers who had been on the Magic that day, and to see their photos of Wonder from the shore!

The only Atlantic set I see is for $149. There is a disclaimer at the top that says customer codes do not apply on Atlantic. Am I missing something?

I like the Aqua.

Yep it was originally $149, but when I input their Fall10 code from the front of their website, it took the 10% off!

I ordered the Amethyst. Very girly!:cutie:

Just come with us on the 16th!

I'd heard they stopped this privilege because some folks were taking advantage of it. Which made me angy. After pushing my DD in a wheelchair around the Orlando airport, I gained a huge appreciation for how difficult it can be for parents who are always maneuvering in and out of bathrooms and stores with their child's wheelchairs.

To hear that you prefer to board with everyone else, give me another perspective. QUOTE]

Now you gave me another prespective. I may also think differently in Dec since I will be boarding alone. My sister in law was with me in Sept which helped me.

So I may change my mind in Dec :goodvibes Being a woman I have that right:rotfl2:

for sure don't get me started on ppl using the accessible bathrooms on the ship just because the regular bathroom is full grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.:goodvibes

Hi all,

I "checked in" here a while ago but haven't had much time to follow the thread. As the cruise gets closer I seem to be finding more and more time for the DIS so I'm checking back in.

Anyway, I can highly recommend Chadwicks (www.chadwicks.com) for dresses for Formal Night. I got my long black evening gown 4 years ago for less than $50 and I love it. Check out their Clearance section for some really great deals.

Just wear whatever makes you feel dressed up. Remember there will always be those who wear jeans on formal night because they want to, and there will always be at least one family who lost their luggage and can't dress up. You've got all your DIS friends to back you up if any one hassles you!

I do like dressing up since we never do anything too fancy at home. I still have the formal and semi-formal stuff I've used for the last two cruises, but I don't want to wear it again. An in, I wore the same two dresses on both cruises. I need different pictures this time!

I just checked online, and according to the Havensight Mall website (the mall right next to the cruise ship dock) there is a full service post office in building 7. I'm glad you asked the question, because that is good info to have ahead of time!

Oh, thanks! That would be really convenient. I was thinking, at the very least, I'd have to go into town. This is even better. I might just do it.

The obsessive planner in me thanks you! :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :cheer2:

We've got packing down to a science--one large and one medium suitcase for the two of us, plus a carry-on with important stuff like medications and things we'll need immediately, and my computer bag and purse. We never bring more luggage than the two of us can carry comfortably because we usually start and end our vacations with at least one train trip and have to be able to manage everything.

I'd like to get away with just one big suitcase, but I know we're gonna end up with a suit bag too.

a pair or two of crocs and my flip-flops. Jeans, shirts and maybe one nice pair of slacks for each of us and we're set. Jim brings one pair of dress shoes and his crocs.

Beth

My crocs broke last night! Well, "broke" might be a strong word. One of the strap rivets broke so now they don't stay on as well. I went to the Crocs website though and they'll send replacement rivets for free, so I ordered one. I was thinking of getting a new pair of Crocs anyway and thought "Here's my chance!" :lmao: I might still do it anyway since that pair is old and I want a different style now anyway. :rolleyes1

On the last two cruises, I had one dress that was a sort of lace overlay thing with silver thread woven through it. So it was sparkly, but in a subtle way. The other dress was long, but straight with a wrap top. It was sleeveless, so I wore a chiffon scarf with it. Like everyone else said, you'll see people in everything though. Every so often you'll even see a sequined "Love Boat" kinda dress, but that's not often.

DH will have his suit.

We shipped ahead last year. We sent a couple of bottles of wine that we made to the resort and carried it on board. Also shipped our SS stuff. Our group will be shipping some stuff this year. Diapers for the two babies that are with us and such.

I read in that same thread that the warehouse doing this is no longer accepts packages with liquids in them. Someone mentioned they believed it was because they started getting overwhelmed with people shipping cases of bottled watered to be delivered to the ship. But shipping to the resort like you did is a good idea.

I might still ship some bulky stuff that I don't plan on bringing back though. For anyone thinking of doing this, the thread can be found here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=939587 :thumbsup2

Good morning and Happy Halloween!! :hmghost:

/rant on

To the oblivious parent at the school,

Today was Halloween costume parade day. Perhaps you missed the line up of 15 or so parents with cameras standing behind you who now have YOU in all of their shots.

We know you want pictures of your kid, but guess what so does everyone else!!! You didn't take the hint when people moved in front of you, you just kept moving forward.

Please consider there are other photographers on the grounds next time you want that "perfect shot" of your child....WE DO TOO!!!

/rant off
