I have a ticket story too. I was commuting from Jersey City to Brooklyn, we would drive though Bayonne to SI to Bklyn. There was a stretch of road that was a known speed trap. I had 3 carpoolers in my car with me and we were stopped. We were all suprised, since with all the traffic, it is impossilbe to do the speed he claims I was doing. He also wrote the ticket for not the first level, but for 1 mile into the second level of speeding, so that if I negotiated it would be brought down to the first level and not anymore. I was really upset.
I went to court, and the officer never showed. I sat there for hours, I was really annoyed, since I was a single parent at the time and had to get home. I was told that since the officer wasn't there it would be rescheduled, and I would be notified.
Well I never heard anything until 3 years later, when I got a bench warrent for my arrest at my former address. I was like what??? I went to the court, explained that I never got a notice to return, and they gave me a letter to carry with me in case I get stopped. I was also given a new court date.
Went back to court (now last time I had witnesses, my carpoolers, with me. I was now at another job and didn't have them anymore), and started explaining about 3 years ago, and the judge stopped me. He asked me when I received the ticket, and I told him, he then looked at the public defender in the courtroom and said isn't there a statue of limitations on traffic fines?? They both laughed, and I just stood there an smiled. The nasty prosecutor, didn't want to drop it. She wanted something, so I pleaded guilty to a 20.00 parking fine or something like that. SOmething that had no points, and I siad yes just to get out of the courtroom and end it!!!
