08/08/07 Well, Olbia Monkey's Uncle! We're cruisin' on the 10nt Med Cruise!

Thanks for all the new info. I get so excited, even though it is so far off.
The word got out to my kids, so they are already asking "when do we go". Oh my, its going to be a long year +.
We had early seating for our West Coast Magic cruise last summer. It was perfect for us. We never felt rushed to get back from the ports. The late seating would be too hard for my 2 younger kids. They were always so exhausted after all the fun & sun every day, they had a hard time staying awake for the shows after dinner and a few times just headed back to the rooms with my mom and then the rest of us all headed out for the night.

I just want to know what everyone enjoyed by way of entertainment on previous cruises and what everyone hopes to see on the Med Cruise. And if anyone has experience with out Disney special itineries, what kind of entertainment was on those cruises? :wave2:

Last time the cruise part was only 4 days ... not nearly enough time to do all the activities/entertainment that was there!! We went to the shows each night, Bryan went to the Lab on our day at sea (LOVED IT!) and we went to the Who Wants To Be A Mouseketeer show. And then there were the pools and the arcade! We just did not have enough time to do everything --- I plan on making up for it this time around though.

I haven't even fully wrapped my brain around the on-ship stuff yet - 'cause We are going to be in ITALY!!! I have been looking forward to doing a Disney cruise for, oh, maybe 3 months? Before that it just wasn't even on my radar.

But having had 8 years of Latin, I have been wishing to go to Italy for at least 17 years, easily! I know we won't have enough time at these ports for me - we are hoping for a little taste and to go back and see it all when our boys are a little older. Like maybe 2008 :teeth: I have finaly found the courage to go to Italy because the thought of being chauffered around by MAGIC :wizard: makes it all sound so easy!

I am interested to know what enticed others onto this trip. I am also wondering if we should get ourselves a theme like some of the other groups seem to be doing? I am so new to this, I have no clue! But I am excited! :cheer2:

I love those shows. For some reason I remember the first time I went on the cruise, the Who Wants to Be a Mouseketeer was in the Walt Disney Theater. Does anyone remember that? This last time I went on the cruise it was in Studio Sea.

Which adult entertainment did everyone enjoy?

I lovd the Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer too but was bummed that the contestants were chosen randomly... boo :( I would have wanted to play but my number never came up.

Re: adult entertainment  you can try the new spa villas on the Magic. They are pretty darn awesome - couples treatments with a private verandah with a double chaise lounge and a hot tub on the balcony. Sooooo nice. They have redone the spa area quite nicely. Palo's of course is always good as well.

Anyway - we're booked in connecting Cat 7's with DD (5) and DS (2), and my in-laws. My parents are booked in a Cat 6 and our friends are booked in a Cat. 8 I think (4 of them). It will be fun because our parents will be celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary (8/6) and my in laws will be celebrating their 40th anniversary (8/7) and my DD will be celebrating her 5th birthday on 8/12! What fun! :bday: I think I had McDonald's for my 5th birthday. She'll be in Europe for hers. My how times have changed.

We have late seating too - we used to always get early seating because I liked seeing the show after dinner, but with kids (and also being from the west coast) the late seating worked better for us since it was not as rushed to get out (for the next seating), and we didn't have to rush back from the shore excursions or afternoon activities to make it to dinner. Also, on sea days sometimes they have matinee shows so some of us would see the show at 2pm, some would see the 6:30pm show while alternating babysitting duty and then we'd all have dinner at 8pm. It worked out quite well.

Corinnak- What other themes have you seen? I think that would be a great idea if we had one.

I think what enticed my family onto the ship, is the fact that we're going to Europe and we don't have to worry about where we are sleeping, eating, or what we're doing. It's going to be a carefree 10 days! I'm EXCITED! Do the BANANA DANCE! YAY!

Back to adult entertainment: Has anyone been to Pub Night?

FOOD: I was just wondering if anyone had any favorite servers that they were going to resquest once on the Magic for this trip?

As far as adult entertainment, the one I remember is the "How well do you know your mate" game. that was pretty funny. Other then that my DW and I enjoyed the golden mickeys, watching a couple movies on the big screen, and just hangin out. One night I couldn't sleep and woke up and decided to go swimming at 2am. That was awesome to be sitting in the pool with no one else around looking at the stars.

I have a question for evreyone. I have noticed that the Barcelona airport is about 10 minutes or so from the Port. Does anyone know if there is going to be a bus or something disney that will pick people up from there to port or is it on our own to make it to the port? Also, are people planning on arriving 1-2 days early or ontime?

Just some things I am thinking about before it gets here.

I think we're getting there on time. Maybe a day, just to be on the safe side. I wouldn't want to miss the boat!

James ... my understanding is if you purchased the ground transfers Disney will pick you up at the airport and bring you to the port. If not, then you're on your own to get to the port.

I will have to check into that. We did have ground transfers on our last DCL cruise but that was in Florida. If they are going to have ground transfers in Spain then that will be great. I will check into it with my TA. Thanks :thumbsup2

Let me know what they tell you ... I purchased the ground transfers and it does say online at DCL that I have from airport to port and port to airport transportation. So I haven't been thinking about this part of it at all ... been focusing on the airport to airport costs :)

I have never before done the banana dance, but here goes:

Kinda fun!

As for themes, I have seen the thread of the first round of the Med cruisers and they are talking about Magic in the Med and Med Magic sorts of things with a tag for their own group along the lines of "Dare to be first" and Crazy enough to be first" Along those lines, we could be "Med Magic - Bringing up the Rear" or "Magic in the Med - Last Hurrah" Or something more clever that someone else might think of. :smooth:

Apparently the Panama Crossing group started the trend with their Kingdom to Kingdom theme. No kingdom over in the Med, though!

As for arrival and ground transport, we are thinking that we want to spend a couple of days in Barcelona getting the kids through the jetlag before we get to the ship. It seems like the transfers might be easy and a good idea, but kind of amazingly expensive the more people you have. It's just a bus, right? They aren't sending horse drawn Cinderella carriages or anything are they? ;) Plus, flying all the way to Barcelona, it might be kind of nice to have a look around! They have some amazing architecture and parks in that city! My 7 year old says "I want to see as much of Europe as possible!" And I guess I am with him! :)

That how well do you know your spouse game sounds like it could be really fun - is it like a Newlywed Show type show?

How long is the flight to Barcelona?

The how well do you know your spouse is very close to the Newlywed Game Show. It's fun. I watched when I was onboard in February. They also have a family type show: How well do you know your Family. I actually played in the game and tied for first! I'll defintely be going to BINGO again though. I probably won't go as much as I did last time. It can get pretty expensive!

What does everyone think of the theme idea?
Personally, I like the Last Hurrah one. :cheer2:

Last Hurrah?? So far we've got three that like it. (Me included) Anyone else like it or have a different idea to contribute?

I did get a response back from my TA regarding transfers. They told me Disney is offering groud transfers from air-port-port-air for $50 per person. I will definatly get those. That way I have security in knowing I will get there. :moped: Since it's only $25 per person round trip I say its one less thing I have to worry about.

How long is the flight to Barcelona?
It depends on where your coming from of course, but if you live in California like me your looking at about 15 or so hours in the air. So bring something comfy. :surfweb:

As far as the theme I like the hurrah. What do you think about "Magic in the med - a cruise back in time." ?
