It depends on where your coming from of course, but if you live in California like me your looking at about 15 or so hours in the air. So bring something comfy. :surfweb:

I'm in Washington, so it'll be about 17 hours for me. AHHHHHHHHHH!!! Does anyone have any suggestions for me as I'm a little leary of flying. It makes me nervous.

If you have ever travelled long distances before, once your up there and going for about 2-3 hours its like a train ride. I pretty much occupy myself with a portable DVD player or IPOD or even a laptop. When all the batteries are gone for those things, I sleep. That pretty much keeps my mind occupied and off of flying, for I am a little leary myself

Got a tip from my other cruise meet thread ... for those of you flying from Canada check out Zoom airlines!! I didn't even know they existed!

Looking forward to our first family trip to Europe. This is quite a step from our yearly trip to FLA! DD's 9 and 13 ( 10 and 15 in Aug 2007), plus my husband and me. We have late seating and Category 4 stateroom (guaranteed). Wonder if I'll get a room number or will this stay as guarantee until cruise?

Welcome Jillnan-
Glad to meet you!
Any tips or questions you have... just let us know!

James- I hope that I can sleep because the minute I feel turbulance or anything, I begin to freak out. I close my eyes and think lovely thoughts.

Gravol puts me right to sleep ... I plan on taking some for my flight!

Has anyone else given any thought to our theme?

I've been worrying about having to outfit my son for the formal/semi-formal nights. He is already taller than me and he's constantly growing. I don't usually spend a lot on his clothes (he doesn't really care what he wears yet:) ) because it only fits him for a few months. BUT I was in Walmart yesterday and their new George line has some nice looking suits (in the Men's section). It looks like I'll be able to get a jacket, pants and a couple dress shirts for about $100. He'll have the dressier nights on the 2 cruises to wear it.

How many formal/semi-formal nights are there?

Is anyone thinking about requesting certain servers?

I checked on my repo cruise thread and on the last repo they had 2 formal, 2 semi-formal, 1 pirate and 1 tropical.

I'm assuming that this one will have at least 1 formal, 1 semi-formal, 1 pirate and 1 tropical (or something else?). Has anyone been on a 10-day cruise before?

So for us that's at least 6 days of either formal/semi-formal. I don't know how I'm going to keep below the luggage weight limits :sad2:

I won't be requesting any specific servers. The ones we had last time were terrific but I can't remember their names!! I have many pictures and would recognize them but their names? :confused3

We did the 7 day Mexican Riviera last summer and had a formal, semi formal and pirate nite. My kids just wore shirt/tie, no jacket to both formal & semi. Hubby and oldest son wore jackets. We went all out for pirate night and it was an absolute hoot. We actually had people request to have their pic's taken with our group....I guess we made a good pirate group photo backdrop.
My biggest concern is luggage for a family of 6, plus other family and friends going....while flying both ways. When we did the West Coast cruise, we packed the vans up and drove 20 minutes to the port....done. We now have to worry about lugging all the stuff around a whole lot more. Yikes! All that formal wear & costumes take up alot of room.

I think we should give a litte more time on our "name". I think we'll be picking up more people. Maybe post 3 or 4 suggestions and have a vote. I know, I have not had time to really sit and ponder ideas yet. But we obviously have plenty of time to do it.

We had great servers, Alexandria, Simon & Leeza. I know there are so many great ones, we will take whomever they set us up with.

I really want to get dressed up for pirate night. Last time I cruised I just went to the store on the boat.
4fosterkids- where did you get your pirate stuff?

I'm hoping to get some outfits around Halloween - there should be lots of pirate Halloween costumes and accessories out then.

Ok so I only have been on the 3 day cruise to the bahamas via DCL. Which there wasn't any formal dinners. What is the pirate, tropical, themes. I have never heard about it but I am assuming pirate is pirate outfits and tropical is hawaii shirts style? If you don't have those things at the time of cruise I assume you can still partake in the festivities. Semi New Cruiser Here  :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I too think it is wise to give the idea of a theme or name time to incubate a little - after all, the inagural cruisers have about 2 months less time than us at this point, right? No big rush.

I am a little concerned about luggage as well - I am getting better at traveling light, but all these special "nights" are cause for some concern in that department. Is there a weight allowance for passengers on a cruise ship or is it the limits imposed by the plane? Clueless over here, a bit! There must be ways.......

I have never heard of luggage limits for the cruise.

The # of bags / weight per bag / total weight per passenger is from the airlines. Each airline seems to be a bit different as well so you'll need to check with whoever you're flying with!

Air Canada is 2 bags (50 lbs (23 kg) each). For a 3rd bag they want $175 for international flights!! Can you believe that!! It's $35 for a bag between 50 and 70 lbs!! I've never actually weighed my suitcases before but I'll have to this time. Sometimes they attached the "Heavy" label to my suitcase but I've never been charged so I guess I've never hit 50 lbs.

Zoom airlines is 2 bags (20 or 30 kg each depending on ticket type) ... overweight fees are $10 per kg. Has anyone flown with this airline before?

I'll going to have to budget overweight fees for my suitcases, at least for the flight home :rolleyes1

I am looking forward to doing this cruise & then the repo Westbound Transatlantic with my husband or ????. We have a cruise this summer to see how he likes the Disney Ship and if he can handle 24 days on a ship. ME, I could live on the Magic, but have to work to be able to cruise.
We are in Cat 6 Room 6566 and have early dining.
Joyce :cheer2: :cheer2: :wave2:

ps: how do you get the pretty signatures?? thanks!!

Welcome Joyce!! I'm doing the same thing ... I can't wait for 24 days on the ship. They just might have to drag me off kicking and screaming!!

To make a signature, at the top go to Quick Links and then Edit Signature. For a countdown graphic try tickerfactory.com.

I'll be on this one with my three daughters (by August 2007 they will be 15, 12, and 10). We are in a cat. 9 with late seating. We plan to get to Barcelona a few days early to recover from jet lag and see the city; then we will probably do Paris and DLP after the cruise.

Halloween outfits are perfect. A friend of ours that went actually sewed the mens outfits and her own...they were fabulous. I will post pictures as soon as I remember how I did it last time.
They also gave out a pirate bandana to every person at dinner, so everybody looked festive even if they didn't dress up for it. We brought eye patches & tatto's, fake loop earring (party supply store).
I am hoping they post any themes well in advance, so we can plan for them again. I've heard talk of them changing the pirate theme for the Med cruises, but it could all be rumor. They do a huge deck party that is decorated and all the charactors have their pirate garb on too, so it would be a big deal to change the pirate show deck party and costumes for the charactors.

Do they change themes for special itineries? Does anyone know?
It makes sense that they would have a pirate night on a Caribbean cruise... but on a Med Cruise? What does everyone think of when they think of the Mediterrean? Maybe we'll guess the theme! :yay:
