08/08/07 Well, Olbia Monkey's Uncle! We're cruisin' on the 10nt Med Cruise!

I have a habit of responding to myself ( lol ). Aug 15, Wed, our day in Marceille is the Feast of the Assumption. From the little bit of research I've done, it looks like all the shops, public bldgs, churches and some resturants will be closed.

We have a private guide booked. But we may cancel. I really wanted to go to Les Baux and St Remy but why go if you can't see anything ??:sad2:

scrapycruiser - I respond to myself often too! Thanks for the info about Aug 15th. I wonder how that will affect DCL excursions?

nordkin - Congrats on being paid off already! The Grand Marina looks like an awesome hotel!

Have a great day everyone!

UMTerp

Nordkin...if I may ask, why did you switch hotels ? We're staying at the Hilton :confused3

We switched hotels because the Grand Marina was my first choice and they didn't have availability when I first booked. They had two rooms open up and I grabbed them. We are trying to make this cruise extra special for my mother since her 74th birthday is the day before the cruise. Although the thoughts of a beach right at the hotel is wonderful, the Grand Marina puts us closer to the sights we are interested in and my mother is not a beach person.

Well. Happy Birthday to your Mother ! What a wonderful way to celebrate !! This is going to be some cruise !!!! :cloud9:

What a wonderful birthday trip! Congrats on getting the rooms you wanted!

Anyone get a packet yet? Looking forward to that!

UMTerp

UM Terp - From your screen name I assume you are a graduate of the University of Maryland. I am also. Fear the Turtle!

Donna

Haven't received it in Maryland yet.
Bummer, but you have the WEB. The packet looks to be a very nice, fairly expensive "document". It's really just a condensed version of DCL's web site. For the shore excursions they refer you to the web site for more information. And for most of us that have cruised with DCL before, there's information included that we have known for a long time.

But it's getting closer!!! 44 days until final payment is due (for those of us "slumming it" in cats 4-12) and 136 days until we get to board the ship (and most of us will be leaving home a few days before then)

"I assume you are a graduate of the University of Maryland?"

"Yes I am! Small world!"
What's a "Terp" - is it related to a Twerp? :smooth:

They kinda messed up my March Madness bracket - I had them losing in the finals, NOT the second round!!!:headache: (Not that they were the only team to mess me up - there were at least another 20 that did me in - next year I make my picks and then choose the opposit teams to win - I'll do better)

They played like Twerps in the tournament this year. I actually turned the game off.

no packets in Michigan Yet ... Bummer:( itis getting closer... the i work with say they are taking the last 2 weeks in July off as the closer it gets the crazier I get :) Hey for those of you that are doing Rome either on your own or through different sources could you give me some ideas as where to look. There are some that would be alright but we really want to see parts of different ecursions like the Coloseum ( more than just a drive by) and St Peter's Basillica. Any help would be great. I have never been to Europe and I am a little nervouse about booking elswhere.
Thanks so much!!!!!

There is some great information on the Med Excursions thread. We are doing all DCL excursions because my mother is with us and she will feel more comfortable knowing the ship won't leave without us. That is something to take into consideration with boking your own excursions. Make sure you get back to the ship on time or it will leave without you. They only hold the ship for those on DCL excursions.

We got our packet yesterday...on my birthday ! Although it was fun getting it, I didn't learn a whole lot from it. We've made just about all our plans. Just need to make Palo res and shore exc for Palermo ??? and Olbia ( beach ).

Can anyone tell me what the difference is in the 2 beach exc in Olbia. One is alot more than the other, but doesn't have anywhere to purchase drinks or snacks.

As far as Rome...we've booked a priv guide ( Stefano w/ Romecab ). We will not go to the Vatican museum or the Sistene Chapel, but will see St Peter's and tke a tour of the Colisseum and see the other usual sites of Rome.

Getting excited !! GINA :yay:

Yeah, kind of a bad year for men's b-ball. There's always next year!

I know we have a bit of time before we can book excursions, but if you book an excursion can you cancel it without penalty?? We've never done any excursions before because they are usually crazy expensive, but we are thinking of booking one in Sardinia, unless I can get more info somewhere, it seems like a challenging place to get around.

I think that you can cancel excursions up to two (2) days before SAILING date (ie August 6) with out penality. If I were cancelling an excursion I would do it BEFORE 8/8 because the ship is "over there" and we're "over here" and there's a lot of time zone changes between here and there.

Does anyone know the difference between the 2 Olbia beach excursions offed by DCL ?

Was everyone aware of our being in France on Aug 15, The Feast of the Assumption ? Apparently ,there are alot of celebrations, i.e., the running of the bulls in St Remy ( Saint-Remy Provencal Feria ) and also in St Remy, Carreto Ramado...like a parade, 50 decorated horses pulling a deco cart.

Our tour is through Provence Tours. I'm sure there will be more celebrations throughout the Provence region. Gina:thumbsup2
