05/09/2009 May 9, 2009 7-Night Eastern St Maarten... Watch Out!

Scottie - will you be doing Maagens Bay through Disney or on your own?

At this point, we plan to do the beach on our own. I don’t see much incentive on paying DCL the extra money for this particular excursion. From everything I have read, there should be a large number of cabs waiting by the dock/beach and we can just grab one of those to head back and forth.
The DCL run excursion only provides the transport back and forth, water and the $4.00 admission per person on the beach (I think it is $4 per person). You still have to rent your own floats and pay for food if you want either. They also appear to limit the return trip to between 1:30 and 2:00pm. If you want to come back outside of this time you have to pay for your own transport. They want $37 per child and $47 per adult.

I am not positive on the taxi rates but I would guess beach admission and the taxi ride both ways for the six of us will be well less then the $262 we would have to pay DCL.

One more hurdle cleared, just finished booking the return leg of our flight for $119 per person with SWA, so $238 per person RT plus tax. That is about as low of a fare as we have had for the last couple of years!
Now I just need a room for the night before and a couple of park tickets for the kiddies for WDW after the cruise. I have confirmed out transfers with the driver so I think we should be set with that.

Just got through buying our plane tickets tonight. One more payment due on the cruise and everything will be paid for on this trip. May needs to hurry up and get here.

HI Luliemouse,

Welcome aboard. This is my first Disney cruise, and I am taking my DD and family including 3 little ones. Will look forward to meeting you and your inlaws etc. I haven't started checking the excursions yet but guess I should start. My DD wants the dolphin swim, and I suppose grandma will give in, but I imagine it is pricy! But it is a once in a lifetime thing. Has anyone else done this? Does anyone have suggestions for family with 9,4 and 1 yr old?

Marilyn

Hello,

I did this cruise back in 2006. I loved St. Maarten. We did the one island two nations tour in the morning for a good overview of the history and to see the entire island. Then I took a cab over to Maho (?) beach that is at the end of the SXM runway. It is a beach where planes are landing right over your head. Also, if a plane takes off the wash from the jet engines is strong enough to blow people in the water. It was a lot of fun and there is a grill/bar right there with a list of arriving flights and you can listen in to the tower talking with pilots. I also spent a little time on this boardwalk kind of area right near the dock and that was also quite nice. I found it much more comfortable than the onslaught of people wanting you to buy crap from them that happens the next day in St. Thomas.

In St. Thomas we did the Sonny Liston tour (not booked through Disney...you have to do it on your own) and it was GREAT!

We received our information yesterday.:cool1:

Now we really have to start thinking about what we want to do in ports. We have also been talking up the kids clubs to our daughter. She is really excited to be on the "Mickey Boat" with all the other kids.

I have some sad news.....unfortuntely the poor Canadian dollar has caused us to cancel this cruise  ......My Mom and I hope you all have a great ttime....

Steve, Amy & Emma (airtime247)....we're still going to WDW so hopefully we'll be able to see you.

Happy new year everyone!

I have updated the front page with all the changes I could spot for new cruisers, and those who have left our voyage of the high seas.

What package are you all waiting to get? We got a book with info on excursions called "My Cruise Travel Kit" Is this it? I also ordered the Passporter and just received it in the mail today  Let the planning begin!!

yep I believe that is the same packet that is in the mail to our house now! I will have fun reading thru it with DW and the kiddies. This is our first 7-night cruise after several 4 night and one 3 night cruises, so it will be fun seeing the other options we have with new ports we havent been to before
