04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

We will definitely bring some card games like uno and blink. We also love word games like bananagrams...and we'll probably bring taboo, buzz word, maybe cranium and scattegories....and then we'll have to see what else we have that's small and will fit in our bags :)

You can add us to the list of board/card/dice game fanatics! I'll be hitting Target in Anaheim to pick up some smaller games (we tend to buy larger games, so we need some smaller versions). Anyone know if there's a game store near Anaheim?

I managed to lose our Pirate Farkel on our last trip, so I need a replacement for that as well. If I have the room, I'll also bring our dominoes set since it's not super big and DH found it great to have last time we were at WDW. I might pack our Dutch Blitz (though that can get rowdy!) as well. Depends on how much room I have left! ;)

You gotta be kidding. DH thinks we should get all our stuff in just two checked bags for our family of four

Boys:faint:

I may join you folks as well for board games. Board games are not DH thing but I enjoy them and don't get to play often. I will be less stressed when we are at the port next week. I realize I have shared a couple of times I am really stressing over flying in the LAX the day we leave. Sue

What is stressing you out, Sue? The airport is pretty much like the other large city airports. Not especially friendly, though. Are you driving from there or getting a shuttle?

We're about done packing. Getting ready for bed now (9.30). Taxi's coming at 5.45 to take us to the airport. It's going to be a looooooong day + 9 hours extra

Have a safe flight!

I just gave them a call and they said that we just need to come to the front of the terminals to CDS Luggage - no reservation necessary.

Thanks for the info! :flower3:

I called them today, too! :goodvibes I should have given you a heads up, but I thought I was probably the last one to try to call by now!

... debuts Friday, April 22nd (Earth Day) ... will be shown on the Wonder during the REPO & Alaskan cruise. Can't wait to see it onboard!

I'm excited too! I have loved all the Earth movies - well except March of the Penguins - it played a million times on our Eastern cruise - Jim just had it on in the background every time we were in the room. :rotfl2:

We'll be at the Doubletree. The Crowne Plaza only had full size beds, which are a bit too small for two people to be comfortable. And I really wanted to stay on The Queen Mary, but my wife has something against sleeping somewhere with a reputation for being haunted.

My father is going to be driving over to spend Tuesday evening with us, but you will have a good chance of running into us Wednesday morning.

I first planned to do this cruise as soon as it was announced, and booked it the day booking was opened. I can't believe it is only one week away!

The haunting drew us to the Queen Mary. We love the Ghost Hunters :happytv:

We'll let you know how it was next Weds :thumbsup2

We booked opening day too - time certainly has flown!

Mexican train dominos...sequence...BS (we once convinced a small child that means banana split)... we love them!

Packing... that now has to wait a few days. At 3am this morning we took in an 8 month old foster baby.

Now to find a respite home for her while we cruise....

It is not the airport I fly quite a bit on fact when we lived in CA I flew into LAX a couple times a month on business. The stress is getting stuck in Alanta and not making it to the ship before it sails. We did get our air from DCL so they will get us to the ship. We have 6 cruises behind us and have always gone in at least the night before.
On time about 10 years ago this time of the year we got stuck in Chicago for 37hours due to weather!:scared1:
Thanks for your support I need to get over it since I have no control over it. Sue

I am currently making FLATTIES!

Flatties are a FLAT version of a dear, close, DISer, who you've cruised with before ... likely kept in touch with ... perhaps sailed on a few cruises together ... but who is not able to cruise with you on your current outing. We've likely all met new friends and cohorts on speciality cruises (inaugural, maiden, special itinerary, etc) ... when all of the DisneyCruisePhiles seem to come out of the wookwork!

Here's what you do ...
1) Find a MUG SHOT of your friend from your hoards of digital pics (hopefully, they're smiling).
2) Print pic on thick photo / card stock (so that the finished product is rigid).
3) Select an array of colorful card stock / construction paper ... sketch a simple outline of a human (we're not grading art projects here).
4) If you prefer, mix and match colors ... feel free to make shoes a different color as compared to their pants ... same for flesh tone, etc. (where possible).
5) Use a pen or marker to accent clothing, if desired.
6) Use non shiny scotch tape on reverse (don't be shy), but use very sparingly on the front, as camera flash can sometimes reveal scotch tape lines. If you use tape sparingly on the front, it can sometimes look like a design accent.
7) Get a new paint stirrer from your local home improvement store ... and RAM the stick up (well, let's just say, tape it to their back)!

Now, you can hold your FLATTIE next to your face ... have a friend or total stranger take a picture of you with your FLATTIE friend when you are in front of a memorable location ... whether it be embarkation, dinner in Palo's, Walt Disney Theatre, excursion ... the choices are limitless!

Here's a sample (below) of a FLATTIE I am completing (there is a bit of reflection from the kitchen light fixture) ... laid out on a red background for display purposes only ... without the paint stirrer / handle.

Okay... this is completely off topic.

It's April 18th and there is SNOW here. SNOW as in that nasty cold white stuff that comes out of the sky... 2 inches of it on my deck.

GET ME OUT OF HERE!

Schools were closed today due to lots of snow a couple hours north of me here in MI. It's common to have snow in April here, but not enough to close schools! ;)

Yup.. don't want to know that. I'm putting my fingers in my ears and singing. 'La la la la' Not listening.
Even in Michigan this is goofy. April 9th was over 80 degrees, and today is the 18th and we have inches of snow. YUCK.
Oh, I didn't realize you're in Michigan too! Yup, we're going to Alaska to WARM UP, LOL! :thumbsup2 (No snow here in Lansing, sorry!)

LOL Steven, if you have enough time to do this project, at this late date... then you need to come and help me PACK!!! :scared1:
I believe all my best crusing buddies are ON this cruise!! :cloud9:

I'm planning to get everything for the four of us into one garment bag and two small carry-on suitcases plus maybe one backpack. :scared1::scared1::scared1: I found some dresses for me that are that flowy material that packs really small. And the pants I'm taking are also very thin. I figure I can do laundry for the kids' clothes if needed. I'd rather do a load of laundry than carry or check luggage. :lmao:

Airport to port xfer?

I called DCL today to find out where I should meet the ground transfer at LAX since I was actually flying in the night before and staying at an airport-area hotel. I was told that I had to meet at Delta terminal 5 baggage claim. Has anyone gotten other answers? I thought perhaps they'd have greeters at all terminal baggage claim areas.

Also, a question for those who are staying on for the 5/3 Alaska -- Are there any east coasters who booked their air from Disney? I'm trying to figure out what I can book for a return flight for my August 30 cruise and am wondering how firm the 12pm suggested departure time is. I really would prefer not to red-eye back and I can't take the extra day out of work. There's routing to BOS via AC through Toronto that is scheduled to get me into BOS the same night, but it would require either an 11:00am or 11:30am departure out of YVR. Since I'd be clearing immigration in Toronto instead of pre-clearing in YVR, I would be more comfortable with the 11am flight to give an extra 1/2 hr cushion in Toronto. Is it truly feasible, though? I had an earlier-than-recommended flight out of LHR for the Baltic and guest services put me in the first debarkation group and I had plenty of time at LHR before my flight. So is Disney Air booking people on any flights before noon on debarkation day?

I have DCL transfer from LAX and my book says just to see the costumed cast member at baggage claim I am on SWA. I don't know if there is a difference with those coming back to the airport or not. They have to have greeters at all baggage claims that they have passengers, it has been since 2005 that I was in LAX and that time we took a private car and stayed near the port. I know that's no help, but maybe someone else knows the answer. Perhaps you can ask on a recent MR thread?
