04/10/2011 Mexican Riviera Cruise

Hi actually got a LOT of info from the other forums regarding FE's so put us in the loop..

and also the Disney Cruise Website FAQ on the ship activities while in port.

Ben

Newbie DCL cruiser

We're excited about this cruise. :cheer2: There are 6 of us, myself, DH, DS #1 (12), DS #2 (11), DS #4 (8) and the one and only DD (7). It's our first cruise, although my husband isn't a stranger to ships.

We're from Sydney, Australia. We have a 14hr flight to LAX, but will be arriving a few days beforehand so the kids (and DH) can adjust to the time difference.

An FE is short for Fish Extender, outside of everyone's door is a fish peg that you can hang things from. On past cruises people made these fish extenders which are kind of like pockets made from fabric that are personalized. (You can find pictures of them on the Disboards) You hang it outside your door and people leave little presents for your family in it throughout the cruise. On our last cruise they put together a spreadsheet of everyone who wanted to participate so they had a list of everyone's room number and the number of adults and children in the room so they left appropriate gifts for each room.

My kids loved coming back to our room to find what was in our FE. Some of the gifts people came up with were so creative, we are still using some of them.

Hopefully we can get enough people interested to put one together!!!!!!

I sure hope we can.... there has not been much people checking in! Maybe it's too early?? We have 7 months!

We are on this cruise. Myself, my friend, her son (21) and her daughter (13). This is our 3rd Disney cruise. I have sailed this route many times but excited to try it with Disney.

Hi! I will be on this cruise; I'm just trying to pick a room. This is my first cruise and I am so CLUELESS. All I know is I want a verandah!

Okay! Booked on Deck 6! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Where is everybody? Did I pick a dull week to sail? :headache:

I sure hope not! There has not been many people to check in, but I hope we do get more people as we get closer to the date! :confused3
I read your pre trip report.... don't worry, there is too much to do on the ship so you won't have to stare at your BF for seven days! Lol! We are booked on deck 8 also with a verandah. It was nice on our last cruise to spend some alone time out there while the kids were alseep!

Woooooohoooooo, Finally, I was feeling so lonely!!! Hi Hoppin, how are you? Thank you for reading my Pre-TR. I obviously am very excited about my vacation.

It's nice to know we won't be bored but I still hope I can meet some new friends too. Like I said, BF isn't a HUGE Disney fan so I'm not sure if he'll go to the shows and movies with me.

Have you thought about excursions yet? I am trying to decide .... I like the idea of riding horses. BF wants to do zipline but the thought terrifies me. I am not much of a thrill seeker.

ETA: I just read back and noticed you are in the SFV. Me too! I am in Studio City.

I don't think we will do any excursions, we are pretty much doing this for the kids..... but we will get some time for ourselves in there too while the kids are at their clubs. We will probably just go to the ports and do some walking around, but that will probably be the extent of it.
We are in the Pacoima/Arleta area.
The first Disney cruise we went on was only 4 nights and there was still so much that we did not get to do!
If you want a nice relaxing time, I would suggest the couples massage. It is a private session with you and your BF in your own private veranda room with a jacuzzi! :thumbsup2 Very relaxing, it was nice.
We also did the dinner at Palo, very good ;)

Yes, I definitely want to do Palo and something at the spa, but we have to watch our budget. The cost of the trip alone is quite a splurge for us.

And I think I want to do something at every port since who knows if I'll ever come back. I can understand wanting to keep a loose schedule with kids. I figure we should go be adventurous while we still are able to! Although laying on the beach with an adult beverage sounds fun, too!

I guess I have a while to figure it out.

I hope some more people join our group!

I was doing my monthly shopping trip at Target yesterday and I was looking at all the cute Disney stuff in the $1 bins ... I wish I knew if we had enough people to do FE, because it sounds like fun!

I also stopped at AAA and got a booklet for the DCL. I was showing BF the picture of the spa and the guests getting massages ... I hope he took the hint :rolleyes1

Have a good weekend!

Hi! I'd be happy to organize the FE list. I did it for the 08 Panama Canal cruise with I think 100 people involved so this will be a piece of cake!!

I need everyone to give me a list of their name and the ages, names of their party along with the cabin number. Best to send me a private message so I make sure I get it. I will then create a master list to give to everyone that wants to participate. You need to get a small gift (anything from .25 cents to whatever) for each cabin. Normally, kids like to get their own so if there are 3 kids in one cabin, you might want to plan on 4 gifts (1 for the adult(s) and 1 for each kid). Sometimes there can be family gifts like a CD. Once I get the names of all that want to participate, I can assign days so the kids can look forward to a gift each day.

About us: Lisa, Quentin - sailed 3 times with Disney (Mexican, Caribbean, and Panana Canal). We've sailed on other lines (Princess, Celebrity, NCL, RCCL). We have 5 kids - ages at sail time: Owen (13), Jack (10), Aidan (8), Luke (5), and Abby (1). We live in Northern California and plan on driving down. We may or may not be traveling with others, still working on that.

It is springbreak for our kids. Yeah!

Have a good weekend!

We've done the villa couple spa treatments and it was great! It was very pricey, but so nice. Highly recommend!

yaaaay, more people!!! Hi Calmom, nice to meet you!

I noticed you did the Mexican cruise with Disney before. I'm assuming you liked it since you're going back! :rotfl: I'd love to hear about the ports and what excursions you did, if any.

I would love to do the spa villa but I'm not sure it's in our budget. We splurged for the verandah room ... but I guess we have a few months to save up.

As far as FE - it's just me and BF, both "kids at heart" :dance3:

HELLOOOOO out there! If anyone is out there ...

BF and I watched the DCL special on the Travel Channel and I think he's *kinda* more excited now.

My Passporter book arrived and I've been reading a little every night before bed (instead of reading my school books - oops!) I ordered the Passporter from 2008; it's a little outdated but it has information about the Port of Los Angeles and the MR ports. I got it off half.com for about $4.

I think I'm most excited for the food.

This seems to be a quiet thread, compared to others.

I check in now and again to see in activity has picked up.

We just got back from a family vacation to Fiji. Our next one is the Disney Cruise. So I'll be starting to plan a bit more in the coming weeks. We have four days in the US prior to the cruise and one week post cruise. Still deciding what we're going to do, although I do know there's a coupl eof days at DL in there!
