03/29/08, March 29, 2008 Eastern Magic - Who else?

Do we want a door sign that everyone can put on their doors. I am posting the one I created for our Halloween Cruise. I am good at designing, but not so good at catchy slogans. I am not the person that made up the slogan that is on the sign. If we want one I can DISign, if someone else gives me the slogan and any other input you all want.

I do not want to ruin the cool links area that BelievesinMagic set up, but I am adding another one.

This is tips contributed by fellow DISers. I sent it to my parents the other day since this is the first cruise. They said it was helpful.

Ohhhh! My misunderstanding! Sorry! :flower3:

Oh please, please update away it would be so helpful! This is for the good of the group!:) No hard feelings or my list thang going on here. In fact I would appreciate it to no end! You can change the format, just as long as all the info is there that is all that matters right? :goodvibes

Can someone post the fish extender how tos, and give examples of the type of gifts etc... This way I can plan and get everything together. THANKS!:yay:

Great idea about the room numbers too

Cruisecrzy our own sign! Why of course! The Halloween one turned our very nice! I'm not good at slogans either, well maybe after a few drinks of the day I might be able to slur one out, but it wouldn't make much sense unless the person I was talking too had a few DoD's too! Don't you just hate it when you talk drunkenese and no one understands you? Not that I do, I'm just sayin...:dance3:

Thanks all!

Okay next time the list needs updating I can do it. I have the codes saved to keep the bolds and I did the room and dinner seating in different colors for those who are visual people.

I have the FE directions, but not here. I have them on my home computer. Give me until tonight to get them to you. I am swamped today. I leave work at 10:30 need to go pickup some friends and then go get my parents to the airport so they can fly home.

If anyone wants them in word PM me your email address otherwise I will copy and paste into here.

Here is a list of ideas based on what we got/recieved on our October Cruise and maybe Lisa and Chuck can give ideas from November.

Package of gum
Magnets
Homemade made magnets (desinged then printed on cardstock)
Socks
Lotion
Coloring Pages
Pictures of characters
Pencils
Candy
little kid stick on earrings and rings
Pens
Sticky Notes
Little kiddie Knick-Knacks-spider rings, tiny cheap plastic toys
Little balls.....like hacky sacks
People brought stuff "famous" in their state like Moonpies and saltwater taffy
sticker strips
little activity books

***Not everything was DIsney themed. There was alsorts of odds and end type things and my daughter had a ball finding little presents and going deck to deck to place them in the FE.

I cannot think of anything else...Chuck and Lisa please help

Chuck and Lisa! Your room isn't far from ours at all!

We also requested late seating!

I was thinking that this did not sound to bad......If we all want the same door sign.

Crusin in '08 oh how GREAT!
Just an Idea....I will try to think of more.

And to update my family...

Michelle 32
Howie 30
Weston 10
Mackenzi 3
My Mom Ruby 56
My Dad Marty 55

Our first time....still waiting on our cabin number:):cheer2:

We have door personalized door signs from the last cruise and if i can remember how to link them, I will. We will be in the late seating and probably will be APL which is the 8pm rotation.

If there is general interest, I can arrange for a dinner link of Disboards cabins. On our cruise in November, we had 63 people linked, and in 2005, we had well over 100 people in, I believe, 28 cabins.

As to Fish Extenders, you can basically deliver one day or all days...we stocked up in November from the Oriental Trading Company and had tons of stuff as reasonable prices. In fact several other families used the same source, although there were a few PM's in advance to avoid duplication, especially for Pirate's night stuff.

We have door personalized door signs from the last cruise and if i can remember how to link them, I will.

Here is how. You need an account at something like photobucket. Upload to photobucket. Copy the image link (you may want to resize so they are not super large 8x11. Come here and paste the image link. DOes that make sense

If there is general interest, I can arrange for a dinner link of Disboards cabins. Chuck as much as we or at least I would love to we are not able to

You know where my stuff comes from so I should not be duplicating anyone.

chuck

Chuck, if you cannot get those signs to load correctly or you have ones that you need the date or something changed on email them to me. Even if they are .jpg I should be able to change info. I have an account and I can post them here if you are unable to

Can anyone tell me the size the fish extender should be? Specifically how wide? I know there's a thread around here somewhere that sas but I can't find it.

TIA

If anyone would like the word version please pm with an email address adn I will send the document to you. I made the one I posted here. I have an embroidery machine so I embroidered all the pockets. I also did not use bias tape. I made binding like you would for a quilt.

FISH EXTENDER INSTRUCTIONS

MATERIALS NEEDED:

This is what I am using, yours do not have to look like mine. In fact some of the most unique on our last cruise where made entirely different than mine.

1/3 yard White Duck cloth
1/3 yard Red Duck cloth
1/3 yard Black Duck cloth
1/3 yard Disney material (ours is Mickey on blue checks found at Wal-Mart)
17” of cord
5/8” x 10” dowel rod with holes drilled in each side big enough for cord to go through.
2 packages of canary yellow Wide Double Fold bias tape
Spool of Memosa (I think this is how it is spelled, it is the closest yellow to the bias tape) yellow thread.

DIRECTIONS:

Pieces can be cut any way they best fit on material except diagonally. We do not use patterns. Just measure and cut.

Cut:

1 29” long x 8” wide back piece (ours is white for this one)
1 29” long x 8” wide front back piece (Disney material) (It is easier to cut these two out together so they will be even)
5 pockets 12” wide by 5” long (ours will be rotated, haven’t decided if more black or more red, yet)

How to put together:

1. Trim tops and bottoms (long ends) of 4 pockets with bias tape. Just trim top of 5th pocket.
2 If you did not cut them together put 29” backs together but do not sew.
3. Starting at the bottom of the Disney material place a pin 4 1/2” from the bottom on both
sides and repeat 3 more times.
4. Place bottom of 1st pocket at the top pins and pin top and bottom in place on sides. Material of
pockets will be wider than back.
5. Working with the bottom of the pocket, fold a crease on each side so that it lays flat and then
sew it to the backs.
6. Repeat 3 more times, placing bottom of pocket at the next pins down.
7. The last pocket will be the pocket without the bias tape on the bottom. Pin this pocket in
place on top and bottom, making the creases so that the pocket lies flat.
8. Baste about 3/4” in around the extender.
9. Take bias tape and pin to sides of extender starting at one side and working your way around,
folding the corners at the bottom to the inside. Make sure that material is inside bias fold.
I have found that because of the thickness the small black spring paper clips work better than
actual pins.
10. Sew bias tape to extender putting stitches about 1/4” from inside edge. Remove basting thread.
11. Turn top edge of extender over approximately 1/4” and then again approximately 1 1/2”.
12. Sew to extender back creating a pocket for the dowel rod.
13. Press extender and put dowel rod through pocket.
14. Put cord through holes and tie ends into knots.
15. Enjoy your “Fish” Extender.

Hello everyone,
I read the disboards almost daily, but have not checked the meets section until today. I (DW) 53 and my DH 56 will be on the cruise with you. We have gone on 4 cruises on the Magic and I have an extra cruise under my belt with my college roommate. We went on a Magic double dip June 2006. All of our cruises, except the first, have been Eastern. I love it the best.:cool1:
We both teach school and this is our spring break.:teacher: I teach middle school sped. and my DH teaches high school math. Our kids are grown and out of the house, so we are cruising without kids. It is so much fun doing that. We are on deck 2 and have early dining. We are doing Palo brunch and dinner. We had to book dinner for Friday, because Wed. was booked on the internet reservations. We will try to switch it when we board.
We did not book any excursions this time. We always shop for jewelry on St. Maarten and then head for Orient Bay Beach. At St. Thomas, we have done the Doubloon and Capt. Nautica excursions. Both are great. Last time we went to Megan's Bay on our own. This time we want to go to Sapphire Beach on our own.
I can't wait to go.:thumbsup2
