Well, we sure had an adventure that I can say.

SAT - We ended up in the parking lot at the port on the bus for 3 hours because of a bomb threat and by the time we got to our room and got in about 20 minutes of swimming time, my 5 year old fell dead asleep and I missed the first night's show and dinner! Our luggage didn't make it to the stateroom until almost 9:30, and our shore excursion tickets NEVER showed up. I snuck out of the room to try to tour the ship a bit and to book Tea with Wendy, which was completely full by then. I ended up ordering room service and bucket of beer and hanging out watching TV in the room while my daugher slept.

SUN - My daughter woke up the next morning with a 103 degree fever! Thanks goodness we were upgraded to a Cat4 on Deck 8 because that was closest to the food and the beverage station and I was apparently going to spend more time in the room then I had planned. Around noon I finally got her up to try the pool and couldn't find a chair or anything because it was way too crowded! I then ended up slipping on the pool deck and really hurting my arm. My parents were with me so I took some time to myself on Deck 10 and spent about 20 minutes bawling my eyes out. I booked a facial in the spa and the gal there was so high pressure, trying to get me to buy all sorts of products that I simply hadn't budgeted for, it was really uncomfortable. I also booked a Cabana Massage for Castaway Cay, hoping my daughter would feel better by then. I missed the Golden Mickey Show because my daughter was asleep but I did get her up for Formal Night which was a complete disaster - I should have stayed in the room with her. Went back to the room by 9:30 and just went to bed.

MON - Still 103 degree fever, but now she is complaining she wants to go to the kids area. I refused to take her until the fever was gone and all she did was mope and cry. I am sure she wasn't having any fun at all. I did get a chair at the pool this time and let her swim for a while. After a nap she was re-energized and even though I missed the Hercules show, we did get to go to Animators Palate and she seemed to enjoy that. Back to the room and asleep by 10:00.

TUE - we had a shore excursion in St. Maartens to Orient Beach. Fever down to 101. Day wasn't too bad, actually had a bit of fun on the beach until my father lost his glasses in the ocean, decided to take a walk down the beach, and ended up getting lost for 30 minutes, right at the time the buses were taking us back to the ship. We barely made the last bus - he was so lost! On the way back, our bus almost hit a goat and almost got involved in a head on collision with another vehicle. Of course by then we were all tired and crabby and didn't make any of the shopping. Went to the shore excursion desk and they were kind enough to cancel our shore excursion for St. Thomas. Considering I had a sick kid I wasn't going, even if I had to pay for it! But they let me cancel after a bit of pleading - I think they saw in my eyes I was about to lose it. They even gave me free Children's Motrin (which I used all of!) I took my daughter to see the Pooh movie and I did get to make the Pirates in the Carribean Dinner so I was happy. Still, in bed by 10:00.

WED - FEVER BROKE! Oh boy was I excited. Had to get up and present ourselves to customs, but since we canceled our excursion, we didn't have to go until the last time slot. Since the fever broke, I finally let her go to the Kids Club for a bit and once she was there I could NOT get her to leave. I think so many days of sleeping brought out all of her energy and I know she was tired of mom by then. So we left her and went shopping in St. Thomas. Bought some nice diamonds- good trip! Went back to pick her up and she had no desire to leave - Goofy's sleepover was that night. I got to see the show finally and did make it to my dinner seating. FINALLY, a decent day made even better watching the family who missed the ship trying to get on it after we had already left to dock! How funny! My dad spoke with the Captain who said in 9 years he has only seen that happen 3 times. That and the bomb scare, both were relatively never seen events, and we had both happen on this trip!

THU - we had the character breakfast in the morning and got out about 10:15ish. I decided to cancel my 11:00 Cabana Massage for the next day (too much money spent in St. Thomas!) and the gal in the spa wouldn't LET ME! Now granted, it was close, but it still WAS 24 hours notice. She said she would try to rebook it and if she could she wouldn't charge me but otherwise I needed to show up or be charged. She said she would call to let me know. I was pissed, I don't think I will ever go back to the spa again personally. Other than that, Thursday was pretty good - my daughter wanted to swim and we got a lot of that in, even though by then, some of the parents and kids were getting just plain cranky and tired. In fact, the parents were acting worse than the kids most of the time! I did have to yell at a few of the kids who were just plain bullies. I think by that time people were getting tired but I saw a few of the older boys kick, punch and hit the younger kids in the pool, and a lot of adults just complaining for complaning's sake. I think people were getting too spoiled. I got to see the show that night and I did get to go to the Piano Bar and see the Comedian in the Rockin D Bar as well as do the 70's Dance Party. There is a crewmember named Travis from South Africa who is such a stitch! Spend some time with him if you can, he is darling! I ended up picking up my daughter from the kids area at about 12:30 and she was wide awake and having a blast! Best day of the cruise!

FRI - woke up early to get a good seat at Castaway Cay. It was definitely COLD, but I learned later that most of the recent cruises hadn't even been able to stop at all due to bad weather. I showed up for my Cabana Massage but they had booked someone during my time and neglected to inform me. Left the Island early, it was too cold and I didn't want to risk any more illness! My daughter was in the Graduation ceremony from the Kids Club and of course, she wouldn't leave afterwards. I ended up picking her up at 10:00 hoping to catch the farewell show in the atrium, but she was out cold.

I know I am missing some stuff here because I also got to see the Pacifier (which was AWFUL!), I lost my drivers license at some point and my mother lost her birth certificate, but I sort of stopped keeping count after a while! :)

All that being said - we booked another trip for next year! The lady who took care of our room knew my daughter was sick and bent over backwards to give her a great time, even though she barely left the room for days. She took really great care of me too, knowing I was going through hell with my daughter being so sick! Our servers in the dining room were so thoughtful and helpful and accomodating. The activites coordinators (Especially Travis-you HAVE to meet him, he is amazing!) were always there helping to get you involved, and the counselors for the kids were fantastic!

Next year we are doing the Western Side and I personally can't wait! My finacee and I are even considering getting married on the ship (he couldn't make it this year... ) Let's hope for no bomb scares, no fevers, and definitely, no spa appointments!

I think your next cruise should be guaranteed smooth sailing - you've used up all the bad luck on this one! By the way, we were on the same cruise, and my personal policy when we couldn't find deck chairs was to watch a few for a while that had towels on them, and if no one came anywhere near them, we finally took over. No one ever complained. Someone "stole" mine once while I was in the hot tub, and I figured fair's fair, since it says "no reserving" on the Navigator.

I will second that one! :teeth:

Thanks for the report and it will only get better each time!

How did your DD like Goofy's sleepover? My DD and I are are cruising next April, she'll be 7 then. All she talks about is Goofy's Giggle Gala!

TIA, Teresa

You must have a wonderful spirit. I've read so many threads where people have had experiences like yours, but were sooo miserable. For you to grasp onto the good things and even book another cruise is a testament to your spirit. Even if your next cruise isn't much better, I know that you'll see the silver lining.

Wow! Well I hope you are someone who loves drama, because you certainally had enough of it. Bright side, it is a much etter story to tell people than...we had a great time. You don't even need to play it up! Way to make lemonaide out of lemons! Glad you could find some good. We had a bomb scare on our Disney cruise, too (9/14..three days after 9/11), it was a long couple of hours! But thankfully, that was all.

What is Goofy's sleepover?

Boy....I don't think all those things could happen to you again in a million years on one trip! Your next one is sure to be the best!

Goofy's Sleepover is an activity they have in the Oceaneers Club/Lab which is the kids area. Basically, the kids get to show up in their cutest pajamas and Goofy shows up in his pajamas to play with the kids. They make pillow cases and just have a good time. Technically its NOT a sleepover, Goofy leaves after about an hour and the kids don't stay the whole night, but the kids sure love it! It was the one activity my daughter wanted to do so badly and talked about for months! I think it may only be available on the 7 night cruises though.

I agree on the chairs- I tried to be really nice about it in the beginning but half way through I pretty much did the same thing you did. Too many people were leaving towels and nothing else and you had no idea if they were coming back or just forgot to put their towels in the bin. It all worked out, but I will say in the beginning it was frustrating!

Oh the one thing I HIGHLY suggest is to by those two way radio/walkie talkies for everyone in the family. I cannot tell you how many times we got separated doing our own thing and couldn't find eachother for hours. I will never do one of these again without them since you can't get cell service. That ship is 11 levels and is as long as the Empire State Building is tall. Its way too easy to get separated.

And it does look like we are going to purchase the wedding package for next year! Yay!

Sorry things were a bit bumpy for you! We were also on the same cruise and from the sound of it, we were on a different ship! Hopefully your next cruise is smoother.

I noticed you had done the Western Cruise as well. Which one did you like better? We've booked the Western Cruise for next year and it seemed to be a bit more expensive, but we also have a full year to pay it off. I was just curious.

I figure it this way, if we had THAT many crazy things happen and I still had a good time, I can only imagine how great it will be next time! :earsgirl:

I liked the Eastern better because of the extra sea day, but my DH liked the Western better. He liked the break-up between land and sea better on the Western. We also booked another cruise for 2006. We booked one of the special sailings that goes to Castaway Cay twice and Costa Maya. Not sure if we are going to keep the reservation though. The price is double what we just paid and the flight and time change from Vegas tired us out. (Our first cruise, we lived in NY) We're going to look into a cruise that departs from California. Too bad Disney isn't sailing from there in 2006!

What was the Piano show like? Did they bring back Dueling Pianos?

No it was just a guy playing the piano each night. Sometimes he sang and there was usually a theme, but sometimes he took requests. It was nice and relaxing and he was pretty good! One thing I can definitely say is that the quality of the entertainment on the ship is fabulous!

OMG This sounds like a Chevy Chase vacation movie. You sound like a great person. Your daughter is very lucky to have you as her Mom. I don't believe anything else can happen to you on your next cruise. You can write to Disney to let them know which CMs went above and beyond their responsibilities. A copy of your letter will go into their personnel file. The address is dcl.guest.communications@disneycruise.com Just tell them which cruise you were on and your stateroom number. Make sure you give them as much info as you can about which CMs went above their responsibilites and then what they did for you. I believe that we need point out the positive experiences! :jumping1:

Did those people who missed the ship make it to the next port? How did you replace your dad's glasses?

Poconoboatniks :flower2:

My dad got lucky and had another pair with him but the sunglasses portion he had made to fit his glasses were gone! The lady from the shore excursion was so nice, she had a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses someone from a few excursions back had lost and she gave them to my dad. They fit over his spare glasses just fine. When we got to St. Thomas he actually found a pair of clip on's that hand spring action so they couldn't fall off. It all worked out!

The people who missed the boat were actually taken to the ship by another small ship. It pulled right up along side and they had to jump on board. They didn't even stop the Magic! My dad went to the behind the scenes thing the next day and that was when the Captain said that had only happened like 2 other times that he'd ever seen. I guess they can't stop the boat or turn it around when they are that close to port. The whole family got on though!

It was definitely a trip to remember. I will check out that link and definitely send some kudos to the crew members. They were fabulous!

Gosh, your week couldnt have been more different from ours on the SAME cruise! Sorry to hear that you had so many problems on board, and hope your "littl'un" is better now.

I visited the Spa almost every day and never had anyone try to sell me anything. Perhaps they thought I was too old and wrinkly to bother!

The "bomb" scare was only a minor security scare - or things would have been organized differently. Still, we only had a 30min wait to get back on board, so cant grumble.

We also thought the movie The Pacifier was grim. National Treasure was much, much better.

Castaway Cay cold? Only after lunch, as we sat on the beach at Serenity Bay to get that last bit of tan. Was MUCH colder the previous week, when we had our sweaters and jeans on!

We also witnessed many adults "nit-picking" over various things around the pool...........gee, they were worse behaved than the children.

Anyway, hope your next cruise will be much happier for you, and good luck with your wedding. If you are doing the Western - make sure you take excursions, as there isnt so much to do nearby the docks. Best wishes. Nat :cool1:

You were lucky getting back on board in 30 minutes. I think we pulled into the parking lot RIGHT when it started so we probably had the longest wait. I talked to a gal who actually boarded the ship BEFORE that happened so they had the ship almost empty for several hours! Lucky! We decided next year to go the day before so the travel scheduled isn't so hectic and so we can get on board early. I still consider ourselves lucky though, I spoke with a guy who's wife and baby didn't get their luggage until we hit St Maartens two days later! I guess with the bomb thing some of the luggage didn't make it on the ship and it had to be flown to St. Maartens. YIKES!

Yes Castaway Cay was freezing! The high that day was only 68, which I guess isn't really considered freezing, but we had those nice days in the high 80's earlier in the cruise. I still somehow managed to get a little bit of a burn that day though! :sunny:

Weren't the adults getting just awful? :) You were right, the kids were VERY well-behaved as opposed to some of the adults.

I will have to try the spa next year again. Thanks for the tip on the Western Cruise. I've talked up this cruise so much to my fiancee I definitely hope he has as good of a time as we did. I keep thinking, boy we had fun despite everything that happened. Next year should be beyond fabulous!

68degrees?Wow, thats almost tropical!!!Haha

Well, we certainly have had much warmer weather on our last cruises.........all between Jan and March, so guess we were just unlucky this year.Still managed to get a tan though, so couldnt have been too bad.

We were horrified at some of the complaints that folks made during the cruise........... all very trivial.......well, most of them.I think some people try their darndest to have a go at Disney, to get compensation I guess. Life is too short: we just made the best of any "small" problems..........which were minimal.

Anyway, our motto is always make the best of what you have!

Besides, we had such a laugh with our Servers, that made up for anything! (Can highly recommend Chetan and Hemant).

Best wishes. Nat :cool1:
