ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

Wear ponchos and go on as planned! This actually happened to us in 2008, our very first trip to WDW. We were there during Faye when it rained for 7 out of the 9 days. It wasn't the most comfortable b/c our shoes were always wet but we still did everything we had planned. And I think that trip prepared us for anything. Also, every trip after that has just been better and better.

We were also there for Faye and we went to the parks and they were empty. I have a picture of the kids in DHS with no one around and I think it was well past 10:30.

We just pack our ponchos and go.

QFT (question for tomorrow) What would you do or what have you done if it rained all week or a hurricane/tropical storm came through?

As long as the parks are operating we will be there! We've had crazy early evening storms the last 2 nights - the sky is clear one minute and it's raining so hard the next that you can't see past your nose. My kids loved playing in it, so they should be happy as a clam playing in rain at Disney.

When I went in 1999 on our AK day it was hot as can be so we stood in line for nearly 2 hours to ride Kali River Rapids and by some strange occurrence both my ex and I managed to not get wet at all on it. Then about 15 minutes later the sky opened up and poured rain down on us. We didn't have ponchos then but we were so hot that it felt great and we just walked through the streets like it wasn't anything getting completely soaked. The people cleared the streets like roaches when you turn the lights on though. A lot of folks left too. Of course it only lasted 20 minutes or so and then it cleared up and was beautiful the rest of the day. We did discover that walking into a restaurant with the AC on full blast after getting soaked wasn't the best idea as we nearly froze to death, but it was still a fun memory.

We were also there during Faye. We just ponchoed it up and went about our plans. It was a little inconvenient having to walk around in the rain all day but we had a lot of fun! And the parks were pretty empty because of it (both Disney and Universal) so we got to do everything plus some. It definitely prepares you for anything lol

We were in Disney when sandy came through in 2011, just a rainy day, it passed quick enough and we enjoyed dancing in the streets at Hollywood studios. We watched the weather every morning to see where and when it would make landfall. I understand Disney has great preparations in the event of a hurricane so we don't worry, and in the event we can't travel home because of weather... Well that just means more disney time for us lol!

We got stranded at Disney for 2 extra days due to Faye...it was great! The first day MK was empty! We just put on our pnchos and had a blast! It wasn't too bad the first day. Hoping to be stranded again at the end of this trip too!

That should be a Team August motto. Keep Calm and Poncho It Up.

Hmmm....I just saw that Disney's cancellation policy is changing for 2014. Instead of being charged $200 for cancelling within 45 days, they are now creating a new category for when you cancel the day prior to your vacation. If you cancel within one day of arrival, you will lose your entire package amount. Looks like Disney is trying to boost vacation insurance sales!

Honestly, I think that is somewhat unfair. I can understand being charged the full amount of the hotel portion because you prevented a paying customer from taking that room. But for park tickets and dining, since you didn't use those services, it seems a little extreme to pay for them. They already charge a $200 cancellation fee to recoup packet printouts and lessen the overall inconvenience of cancelling. But garnering the entire package amount? Yikes!

but I am bursting to "share" and we've decided to wait to tell family and friends so thought maybe I could tell all of you!:flower3:

We are adopting a daughter from Haiti :lovestruc, just started the process on Tuesday this week. We've been considering this for several years, but just started seriously thinking/praying about this since early April. God has blessed our family the last couple years and we feel he has put Haiti in our hearts for a very specific reason. We are stepping forward in faith that there is a little girl who will become part of our family...so excited...and a bit nervous. Haiti is not the easiest place to adopt from, their system is a bit unorganized. We will just have to be patient and trust God in his timing.

So, in 32 days we head to Disney on what will probably be our last trip as a family of 6. We've decided Disney is on hold until after the adoption is complete....but look forward to visiting with our new daughter some day!

Thanks for letting me share :)

No insurance so we will be there in the rain/storms. Fun fun fun.

Same for us! We'll have to grab our ponchos and go! This is the first time I didn't get insurance and silly me didn't even think about hurricanes/weather!

That is very exciting news! I hope the process is smooth for you!

Yay! :cool1: I'm going to pick mine up next week after my anatomy scan when I'm on that side of town. I haven't been to this office, but the one at our last duty station always acted like we were inconveniencing them. One time they were just standing outside smoking, both at the same time, and just had us wait for 15 minutes while they leisurely smoked and chatted. But in the end, off to the happiest place on earth we'll be going!:woohoo:

Yeah! I got mine last week! DISNEY HERE WE COME!

T-34 days!

FP+ came in while we were gone for the weekend, but sadly no MM. It should be in this week! Yay! Come on August!

I don't think I understand the current cancelation policy then. What is it currently? I could've sworn the CM told me if I cancel after the 45 day mark we lost everything, before the 45 day mark we lost the $200.
