My mom is trying to change her diet to loose weight, I am thinking about it alot..and doing nothing. I am about 20lbs over my ideal weight so it wouldn't take that much to get back there. My question is: where do you all find the time to run/walk miles in a day? I work full time, commute an hour and 20 minutes a day and then there's the kids and homework, not to mention house work.

It's almost impossible in my book, to work full time, take care of the kids, and workout. I'm a SAHM, so I have no excuses. I have a friend from high school who has a 2 and 4 year old and works full time. She gets up at 4:30 every morning to work out before dealing with her whole day. I'm so impressed and inspired by her!

My DW works full time and is involved with the kids and house at night, so it's much harder for her. She runs three times a week, and usually just gets up an hour earlier to do it.

Hmmmmmmm :scratchin sometimes I have to wonder if that's actually true.

My teenager is such a busy guy, I'm as busy with him now as I was when he was smaller. Its just a different busy.

Dropping him off and picking him up from work, ensuring he gets back and forth to his volunteer commitments, grocery shopping (have you ever fed a teenaged boy? :rotfl2:), attending his sporting events, trips to Staples for project materials, proof-reading 5000 word English essays, getting him to his drivers ed commitments, etc.

At least with smaller kids, they are in bed nice and early and you have laundry time, etc. during the evening hours. With older kids, their day begins earlier (mine has to be at his first class before 8 am) and end later (tonight his basketball game doesn't even start until 8:45 pm.....and between the end of his grade 11 classes at high school, he has a drivers ed in-car session and a work shift....oh yeah, and somewhere in there we have to find time for dinner :crazy2:).

Sometimes I think my "workout" is just getting through the day with my sanity still in tact!! :rotfl2:

I agree with this! When they are little they are at least on your schedule - not that they are older all I do is run like a madwoman to meet their commitments!

I have three - oldest has his work, volunteer work, school, clarinet and SAT classes (everything else thankfully is done at school and he taks the late bus)

middle guy is my actor. He does plays in and out of school. He just tried out for Aladdin at an outside theater. He got called back two nights ago for Jafar and was at the call back until 10:00pm (20 minutes away). Rehearsals will start and those will go late each night. Again, thankfully everything else he does is in school.

My youngest is a travel hockey player and runs track (could I get three any different?? :rotfl2:). Travel hockey is like a full time job on its own - we are at practice, a clinic or a game a minimum of 5 days out of the week and the hours kill you - you are either up at 4 am, getting home at 11pm or, and this is my favorite, tied up between 5-8pm on weeknights. Um, hello, does anyone think family dinner time is important??

And this doesn't count homework and studying. Now I can't complain because I am a SAHM and this is my job - I'm free during the day to do the laundry, housework, food shopping, etc. But come 3:00, I hit the ground running and don't stop until whatever time I'm allowed to collapse in bed :rotfl:

So, the creeping budget finally got to DH, and he had a little fit about the cost last night. We changed our dates to save on airfare, we're staying 6 nights instead of 7, and we're staying at AoA (LM room) instead of YC. We'll also probably cut back to just a couple ADRs, instead of one every day.:( It's hard not to be disappointed, but it'll save us almost $1000 all totaled, and DH will be no fun at all if he's stressing about money the whole trip.

Plus, Little Mermaid!:cool1:

Happy hubby = a much more enjoyable vacation. And one who agrees to back again sooner than they would have otherwise :thumbsup2 .

I bet your kiddos will *love* Art of Animation!! And an $1000 savings is a nice chunk of change to have in your back pocket. Sounds like the adjustments made to your plans make it a vacation everyone can be happy about! :goodvibes

Its funny....my DH never wants to know what the final cost is. He always jokes that he loves the trips and has tons of fun, as long as he doesn't know how much its costing. When I calculated up what we spent on our Florida getaways in 2012 (we went three times.....January, August and Christmas week) he almost passed out :faint: . In his mind, all he could think of was "we could almost have bought you a brand new small car with what we paid for Florida trips in a single year".

Meh, who needs a new car when we're making family memories? ;) (fingers crossed my '02 Alero keeps on humming along......! :rolleyes1)

I don't have time to read back a couple pages but, did you all see this thread about new August discounts coming out? :cool1:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3103784

Thanks for the link! This will actually save us more than FD if it happens!

Of course now I'm freaking out because the date they are projecting is May 9 and we will be on our cruise! But I'm assuming for a RO discount they aren't limited? As in I already have the reservation so I should just be able to have it applied when we get back?

On particularly hectic days, I often wonder to myself.....how the heck do people with more than one child fit it all in?!? One keeps me running hither and yon from dawn until dusk. I cannot imagine how busy you are with three.

To complicate it all for our family, DH is a shift worker. Thankfully, my bosses have a very "family first" philosophy, so while I work full time, I can get off early, come in late, or duck out for a bit during the day when mom duty calls during business hours.

And I totally hear you on the travel hockey ::yes:: . My DS played travel hockey when he was smaller, then switched over to travel basketball in grade 8 (not much difference in the level of commitment.....we're just warmer when we watch bball than when our fannies were sitting in the arena :rotfl:). Being a hockey mom (or a basketball mom) is a full time job on its own!!!!

I should be! I had just started Couch to 5K when I found out I am pregnant! If I were exercising regularly before that I would continue, but for the past 3 months I have done nothing. I have had a very hard time losing the weight from the first baby (to the point none of it is gone) so I know I need to exercise, but think I will stick to vigorous walking.

Before our Dec trip last year I was very active doing Zumba and running 4-5 days a week. I really miss Zumba but don't have a gym member ship since we moved. As such, I too have a hard time making the time for exercise. I did purchase a jogging stroller to do C25K and can take the toddler out in that. It's no joke to push your 35 lb toddler in a 60 lb stroller! That's hard work! I need to look at other exercising options to add in as I have a pregnancy workout video. Hopefully I will feel better and more a part of the world soon! I know I just need to suck it up and git er done though!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!! If you don't already have one, invest in a heart monitor and this way you will be able to safely workout without worrying. Just keep an eye on your heart rate. It's been a long time for me, but when I was pregnant the max was 140. I would ask your doctor though since things like that change all the time!

Great job by both of you! Keep it up!

My wife and I bought new shoes for the trip tonight. She got a pair of Vibrams fivefingers and I got some Keen water sandals. Hopefully it's $227 well spent.

:thumbsup2 I replied to you on this on FB. It's so funny to put names to screen names here - sometimes I feel like I'm talking to different people :rotfl2:

I also have the Keens - I'm on a bit of a shoe buying frenzy that needs to stop!! At this rate I won't be able to buy any souvenirs because 1. I will have spent all my money on shoes, and 2. I won't have any room in my suitcase because it will be overflowing with said shoes.

I should probably just ignore shoe posts, but given that I now own most of the recommendations, I should be safe :rotfl:

So cute!!! I LOVE my D&B. I have this one:

And I still get compliments every time I wear it. I can't wait to get a new one!

OK, first thanks, I am not renting a stroller. All of the replies have been consistant with no need for a stroller...I will post on this thread from the park if we need to rent mid day and there are none left...:rotfl2:
Second, I don't feel so guilty about having no time to loose weight. Not that I don't still want to, somehow magically, before my trip. :wizard:

Strollers can be helpful but also can be a pain. I was telling my wife last night that this might be our last trip with one since DD2 is filled with far more energy than DD1 (who at age 7 demanded to ride in the stroller last year.) My wife was concerned about not bringing it because we wouldn't have a place to put things and then would have to carry them ourselves. :rotfl:

Time is a challenge for parents these days. When kids get involved in extra curricular activities it can take up a lot of time. We only have two kids so we can somewhat divide and conquer if need be, but for those with more than two I don't know how they find the time to get everything in and sleep and eat too!

While I would agree that the kids are busier as they get older, I still think I have bigger chunks of time for myself. They're all gone for at least 7 hours a day with school, so that's my time to work (again, I do the majority of my work out of a home office, so that's a huge perk for me), exercise, household chores, etc.

Once they're home from school, I'm running them around to activities (sports, band, scouts, social activities). But they're also so much more independent - I do barely anything for my oldest now! He gets himself up in the morning, makes his own breakfast, handles his homework on his own (honestly, I don't think I could help him with the courses he takes ) and just manages his time really well.

When they were little, I felt like I had to help with every little thing - bathing, getting dressed, brushing teeth, eating....it was just exhausting!

Ok, so I guess I can officially join you guys, we are going down Aug 30 thru Sept 2 for the Labor Day weekend with our best friends and their daughter. We're staying in a Royal room at POR, not really where I wanted to stay, necessarily, but I'm excited.

Yay for your trip!!! (we really enjoyed POR.....didn't have a Royal Room when we stayed there, as it was pre-Royal Room days, but the resort itself was lovely :thumbsup2).

And a big welcome :welcome: to our little group!

We are saving up a down payment to buy a house after I graduate next year, so it's hard to rationalize spending anything that could be going into that fund, especially since we took a $3000 trip to St. Croix for our anniversary earlier this year and did Disneyland last August. We are pretty frugal the rest of the time, though, so I consider our vacations just a lump sum of all the extras we don't waste our money on throughout the year! (Now tell that to DH :rotfl:) I'm doing a paid internship at a big corporation over the summer, and almost 100% of that will be going into savings, so darnit, I earned this!

Also, am I kind of totally lame for almost/really being more excited about AoA than I was about YC?! :woohoo: :lmao:

So freakin' cute!! But I just checked the prices on the Disney Store website and :scared1: . My DH would have a heart attack if I spent that much on a purse. Heck, *I* would have a heart attack :rotfl: .

Guess I will have to be satisfied with my pick-a-pearl experience :thumbsup2 .

QOTD!

Have you started a PTR? Are you going to do a TR?

This is less a QOTD and more a Give Me Some Reading Material. ;)

I've never done one, so I'd probably be awful at it LOL! I would like to give it a shot though, since I enjoy reading them so much. We'll see...

Maybe a dining report, because I am a complete and utter Disney food porn addict

This made me laugh! DW will occasionally ask, "what is all this costing?" and I just say, "Don't worry about it...it's all good" :goodvibes The good thing is when she does throw out a number, it's usually high (although not always much higher ) and I say, "No, it's definitely not costing that!" :lmao:
