"I've Got a Dream: I Just Want to See The Floating Lanterns Gleam!"
Our May 2015 PTR!
Livin' it up, love that feeling,
fillin' me up, let the memories begin!
(Lyrics may not be accurate. It's been three years since I've watched the Stacey channel.)
To all who come to this happy place, welcome! After finding out last night via FaceTime that our May 2015 trip was a go (and proceeding to ugly cry a little out of sheer joy), I knew I wanted to PTR this trip! Join us on our journey to plan our first Disney trip in three years!
Let's start with the Who...

I'm Shannon, I'm 21 years old, and I will be your skipper, lion tamer, alligator wrestler, and if you don't laugh at my jokes, your swimming instructor for this PTR and eventual trip report. I'm in my third year of university, majoring in English with dreams of being an author or working in publishing. This will be my 6th visit to WDW and I can hardly believe we're finally going back after three years! I love meeting face characters more than fur and I like to think I'm best friends with every princess and courting every prince. I read a lot, quote TV shows and movies constantly, love puns and Stacey, and even though I am quiet and introverted, at Disney I can break out of my shell a little more than normal. Which usually ends in slightly more exuberant walking than normal and a lot more talking.
Favourite Park: Magic Kingdom
Top 3 Rides: Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Soarin'
Character Im Most Like: Elsa or Rapunzel
Favourite Characters: Flynn Rider, Aladdin, Anna and Elsa, Ariel, Belle, Minnie, Stitch
Favourite Restaurant: Ohana
Favourite Disney Treat: disney sugar cookies!
Favourite Disney Movie: Tangled, The Little Mermaid or Big Hero 6

Joining me on this adventure is my Mom, Karen! She does much of the planning while I'm in school and focusing on my studies as well as being the financial provider for most of the vacation funds. Translated: she's superwoman. She's my best friend and one of the funniest and most generous people I know. Her DIS username is plutopuppy and she might pop in to offer her commentary on the PTR and eventual TR. Mom loves Christmas, Chip and Dale, and Scottish people more than anyone else ever and has been known to lurk around the UK pavilion in search of accents. She loves the World just as much as I do, and she loves to meet characters and goof around with me while we make ALL the memories!
Favourite Park: Magic Kingdom
Top 3 Rides: Soarin, Buzz Lightyear, Philharmagic
Character Shes Most Like: Merida
Favourite Characters: Chip and Dale, Pluto, Mickey
Favourite Restaurant: Chef Mickeys
Favourite Disney Treat: Dole Whip
Favourite Disney Movie: Tangled and Beauty and the Beast
My Dad is also in the picture, but our trips to the World are usually girls trips! (This is our FIFTH mother-daughter trip to Disney!) He is not a fan of WDW and enjoys his hunting trips with his brother in the fall for fun instead. When we go, he likes hearing about what we do there, and occasionally chimes in with our conversations about what he liked, but he says he thinks one trip (our first trip in 2006 was with all three of us) was enough. I don't really know where we went wrong with him, but at least he's happy in his man cave. And he doesn't want his picture on Facebook, let alone the entire internet.
The When and the Where...?
As of right now, were planning on 8 days, 8 nights from May 4th-May 12th, dates which will shift a little when we actually book. We're taking advantage of the spring deals. We're staying at POP Century: this is our favourite resort and we always call it home! It'll be our third stay here and we couldn't be more excited.
The Why?
It's been three years since we last went to Disney. The last time we went to Disney, we still had Legacy FPs. The last time we went to Disney, Frozen didnt exist. The last time we went to Disney, New Fantasyland was just being built. Its about time we grace the kingdom once again with our sarcastic, loud, and sometimes immature presence. This trip, like a reversible shirt, is also serving as a combination of my 21st Birthday celebration (my birthdays in January and I received news that we were going on my birthday weekend, but thats beside the point) and an early graduation trip (Im one year away from only student loans connecting me to my school). I'm planning on going to publishing school after I graduate university and I may not have time or money to go next year.
So, as our friend Tom Haverford from NBCs woefully under-awarded sitcom Parks and Recreation says, TREAT YO SELF.
We will, Tom. Well treat ourselves for a whole week.
Last but not least: The What (Is With the PTR title):
Tangled is my favourite Disney movie, and ever since they added the Tangled bathroom/rest area to New Fantasyland, it has been one of my must-dos for the trip to go there (I know, I know, but Shannon, its a freaking bathroom! YES IT IS AND ITS GOT PASCALS AND LANTERNS AND PAINTINGS I WILL BE GOING THERE). So, just like Rapunzel, my dream for the trip is to see the floating lanterns and lurk around the Tangled rest area. It helps that its next to my other One True Love, otherwise known as the Haunted Mansion. That corner of the park was clearly made for me.
(sidenote: Im very sad that the Flynn Rider wanted poster is in the mens room rather than being in the main area for everyone to see. I was looking forward to a picture with it, but now that will definitely not be the case. Getting arrested is not part of my Disney plans.)
Join us in our Disney Vacation Extravaganza as we attempt to do the following:
figure out how to do dining without relying on the DDP (we're going rogue for the first time!!)
choose restaurants without it becoming the 76th Hunger Games
navigate the world of MyMagic+
not overpack
stay up until all hours of the morning just to ensure we meet Anna and Elsa
determine how many cupcakes we can devour in a week
order adorable accessories off Etsy
participate in the ultimate test of our relationship by agreeing on MagicBand colours
have the greatest trip of all time!
