The most annoying or aggravating thing you see at WDW.....get your flames ready!

This issue seems to be getting worse & worse every time we go to Disney! PEOPLE..... if you can manage to get out of your wheelchair or scooter under your own power, and walk up the exit door stairs, you can wait in line to get on the bus like everyone else!!!! The bus lift is for people with ACTUAL disabilities not for being LAZY!
Also, I always think its funny when you can have a HUGE lineup for the bus and a person in a wheelchair or scooter pulls up and they have a "Justin Timberlake" entourage. I mean once we counted 12 additional people get on the bus with a wheelchair person. I swear it, some people just bring "grandma" so they dont have to wait in bus lines!!!:sad2:

Again, your mileage may vary. We have had to wait for 3 busses before because the wheelchair spaces were already full on them. Like some rides, for transportion being in a chair is a PAIN. Trust me. I felt guilty every time the monorail people have to get out those darn heavy ramps so my chair could be loaded. Next trip I told my husband, I don't care how much pain I'm in, or if it takes two people to help me do it, when we get to the station I'm getting out of the chair so they don't have to get the ramp out. :(

ok, the reason they do that is so the person goes with the chair. they have to load the chair first for safety reasons, and you dont want the chair going to the park and the person stuck in line!

Last Sept, a man was in a wheelchair because HIS ARM WAS IN A SLING!!!! He walked perfectly fine, and when the driver came to lower the exit door steps......the man said it wasnt necessary and walked up.....with his wife and 3 kids...and grabbed his seats.
That is complete b/s and Disney does not and never will do anything about the idiots who take advantage of the disabilities.

I do not mean to offend anyone, unless your one of the morons that abuse the service, and Laren you shouldnt FEEL that u need to get out of your wheelchair. If you are in pain, use the service Disney offers...thats why Disney offers it, but to many people abuse it, and thats why people like yourself feel embarrassed, b/c of these other morons that are just plain LAZY!

This is nastiest and most mean-spirited thread I've seen on here in quite a while. Why would anyone choose to be so negative, prejudiced and negative. Hopefully the admins will choose to lock this up soon. I know I won't be checking back!

I have been trying to bring my 70 yr old mother, that looks 60, but she has some walking problems. She will not come because, she said she would need a wheel chair to get around. She would be able to get out and walk up to the rides. It is the all day walking and standing that she could not do. I would have a fit if I overheard someone saying something to her or about her. It would not be pleasant. I have a very low tolerance for mouthy people, so if some of you feel the urge to take on the cause, I would suggest you tread cautiously. You never know what can of worms you are going to open! I am starting to see why Disney advertises," The Most Magical Place on Earth." To give us a mindset when we arrive.

I understand, a family of 5 or 6 gets on, but when you can fill from the wheelchair seats to the back of the bus with your "ëntourage"....come on. You can all meet at the park or the bus stop. So basically if their is a magical gathering and 1 person in a party of say 25 is in a wheelchair, there isnt an issue with all 25 people getting on the bus at once b/c they are in the same party? Disney needs to do something about this, which they wont, b/c not only is it frustrating to the people waiting in the line, I have seen and heard some drivers take some pretty bad verbal abuse from people waiting in line, and thats not fair b/c its not their fault.

People who take the elevator up just one level when there are stairs right by. Can't you walk one flight?

No because maybe that person has a disability that you cant see with the naked eye. DS4 has low muscle tone in his trunk and has been in physical therapy since he was 1. Most people cant tell at this point that he has this problem until they get behind him either going up or coming down the steps. So sometimes we take the elevator to save his stamina for other things.

My pet peeve: People who assume!

Unfortunately, a lot of people do abuse the ECVs and the amentities that go with them. The problem is, many times you can not tell them from the people who actually need them. I try not to pass judgement on a situation when I know I don't have all the facts. Now, standing in front of my child during a parade is another story entirely!

People who give me dirty looks and "glares" when my child is having a bad moment and they don't approve of the way I am handling the situation.

The only thing that bothers me is when I am trapped in a line listening to someone complaining (about weather, heat, lines and other things we have no control over).

I think that some adults really need a time out, but keep on going anyway. Similarly, sometimes the kids need a break and the parents just keep dragging them along. Then everyone gets crabby. If they could just give themselves a break, maybe they could relax and enjoy themselves. :grouphug:

Now, please read my original thread. I clearly stated that "people who dont have a physical ailment" and "are enormously overweight." OF course, there would be people who may be overweight that DO have physical ailments that should be in a scooter. My post wasn't aimed at them....

Without having read the rest of the thread....so it's ok for thin people without physical ailments to use ECVs but not overweight people. There's no way for you to know if someone has a physical ailment or not, whether they are thin or heavy. Since ECV drivers don't wear "physical impairment" stars or "want to save my feet for Pleasure Island" stars, you are acting like you haven't insulted many, many ECV drivers, but you have. You have stepped all over the feelings of those who need ECVs but are worried they may appear "healthy" or "lazy" so they shouldn't go to Disney. You would say, that "my post didn't apply to you", but since we all know you can't accurately identify your target you have made all overweight people without obvious physical impairments subject to your scrutiny and judgment.

My mother had to use an ECV because she has a degenerative disease of her back. She's overweight because of this horrific arthritic pain that keeps her from sleeping, or doing simple things like playing with my daughter. At home, she doesn't have a scooter, but when we were going to Disney, we needed one so she could enjoy her time. The problem I have with your post is how do you determine who *looks* disabled and who really is. If you don't talk to my mom, you'd probably never know from seeing her in the ECV the horrible time she's had in the past twenty plus years. I felt very self-conscious about boarding the busses before others when they loaded her first, all those people waiting in line for so long. The reason I felt that way is because of people like you who pass judgement without really *getting* it. She had to use a cane to get up and get on rides, or wait in line when the ECV wouldn't fit, but had she forgotten her cane at the hotel, and you saw her, would you think her simply *lazy*?

Happy to say, not once did anyone give a nasty look, whisper behind her back, or seem put out by the situation. I thanked everyone each time we got on and off, and taught my daughter to do the same. It saddens me that people are really peeved by handicap people who happen to be overweight. I hope that God deals you a perfect hand in your old age, and if he doesn't, I hope no one ever calls you lazy. This whole post made me insanely sad. :guilty:

AMEN! :cheer2:

I agree with you 100%! As far as the cell phone, I see your husband is a solider, I would not turn mine off, either! My Thank you to your husband and your family. Some people have such petty cell calls, that is all they can see someone making or receiving. We own our own business, just because we come to Disney, the business doesn't stop. We employ about 40 families, I could see us telling them, "Oh, no business this week, because it offends people, if we take a cell phone call." Never in a show, but come on folks, in a line, some of the things you folks talk about doesn't interest us in the least, either.
I think cell phones have gotten out of control everywhere, not just at Disney. But I do think if someone is having a quiet conversation who really cares? I love those people though that talk REALLY super loud and are very animated, almost like they WANT everyone to see and hear them. It kind of cracks me up actually. And thanks for the comment about my hubby. Trust me when I tell you military families really appreciate the support. More than you would ever really know, so thanks. :goodvibes
Tell you what, next time you are at WDW and if you are standing close to us when he calls, put him on speaker and my whole family will talk to him. We support and stand by our military people 100%. We'll thank him in a loud voice:cool1: and dare anyone to tell us to shut up! If we don't see you at WDW, give him a big THANK YOU from us anyways!
I swear, some of you guys here on the DIS are the greatest. I think experiencing kindness from strangers is a true display of their character. For every nice thing you do for someone, I really believe it will come back to you! Thanks for the support and I will relay your message to him! What a riot that would be to be at Disney and have a group of strangers cheering on my hubby. So cool! :thumbsup2

I do think it should be limited as to the number of escorts someone in a wheelchair or EVC needs. 1 or 2 is enough to help them load and unload on and off the bus. If you have more than that, maybe renting a van for the whole clan would be easier and more efficient.

Actually, it is just a matter of perception. I am sure you do not walk through life being completely non judgemental or negative. We all have pet peeves. Some are really petty in my opinion, on the other hand I am sure some of mine seem like no big deal to someone else. It's all how you look at it.

I really only have one pet peeve and it's probably because I'm too nice, but it really bugs me when my DD4 "meets" another child in line or waiting for a show and they start talking or giggling, whatever....and the other child's parents just kind of move away and rest....like I will babysit their child!

I had one set of parents go sit over on the other side of the waiting area of "Honey, I Shrunk The Audience" while their son stayed by us. The room got pretty full and I just kept watching for them to come over and get him.

Hello? Do you know me? Yes, I may have a child, but that doesn't mean I'm not a freak! I'm not, but do they know that?

My daughter is never more than a couple feet away from me and my eyes are on her all the time....and when we have parents like this leave their child by us, I make sure that I am watching out for that child, too, but I just don't feel like it should be my responsibility to watch another person's child just because they have "befriended" my child.

That is my pet peeve, but I'll keep doing what I'm doing and making sure the child is safe and secure every time it happens. I guess I just look safe.
:confused3 :confused3

I don't mind if people 'abuse' the cart feature, if they don't want to walk.. so be it! Florida is extremely exhausting, especially for hours and hours on end. Now, if they were taking away a cart from a person NEEDS it, then yes.. by all means, get off your butt! Of course I never used one, and don't know how limited they are..

People who take the elevator up just one level when there are stairs right by. Can't you walk one flight?

No I can't. I'm 53 years old, weigh 145 lbs. at 5 ft. 71/2 in. and look very fit. Sometimes even one flight of stairs will leave me winded. I have heart problems that you can't see. Now going down a flight of stairs I will do although if it's a really long flight of stairs I may have to go slower toward the bottom as my knees give out.

Same goes for sitting on a bus when other people are standing. If I get up and stand I may end up in your lap half way thru the trip.

:grouphug:

I think that this is the worst thresad ever to be started. Why on earth would you want to bash people you don't know and pass unfair judgements? Like I said before "fat" people would kill to be able to ride the rides that they know and love. You all are selfish and you should be all thankful that you even get to go to WDW at all. So what people tick you off but you have to remeber where you are at and that this is the "happiest place on earth" so you need to make the best of it and not let other people bother you.

MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE:
People bashing people they don't know. You don't know what kind of disabilities or conditions people have. Be thankful you can still walk and ride.
