Best Upgrade You've Ever Received?

Checked in today.

Arrived at CBR and was told I was "upgraded" to a pirate room. I politely declined saying we wanted the queen beds in our original "water view" category and to be closer to the main area (we requested Martinique or Barbados. She said there weren't any rooms available and I reiterated that we really wanted queen beds. My wife and I do not enjoy sharing a double. The woman checking us in spent about 20 minutes on the phone, I was starting to get frustrated but tried to remain calm...finally she tells me we're being upgraded to the GRAND FLORIDIAN. I almost cried!

So...I'm typing the post as we watch Monorails go by our balcony window. Crazy upgrade!

Congrats & enjoy!! :goodvibes

Thanks! I was reading this thread over the past few weeks and was like that's neat. It will never happen to us...

I'm not saying anybody can control this but if we hadn't put in the room requests we had I don't think this happens. When they told me where they were putting me, I very politely told them that it wouldn't work for us and why that was. ALSO - even though I got the email that we could skip checking in and head to the parks (and they'd text me the room number) I still visited the desk just to make sure everything was good. IF I hadn't done that we would have come back from Epcot at 8pm and been pretty upset about the situation. SO...not saying you can make an upgrade happen but it might be worth the extra 20 minutes at the resort to check-in vs. skipping the desk!

Wow! Congratulations! Pays to be persistent!

In over 20 years of going to WDW, I never got an upgrade.

For me and my wife we're now referring to this visit as "lucky number 13!"

Also - after we got the upgrade situated we went straight to Epcot from CBR. When we tried to enter the park the magic bands didn't work. We were detained at Guest Services for about 20 minutes straightening that out. While with the cast member I casually mentioned that we just really wanted to get it straightened out quickly so we could eat lunch and that we hadn't eaten since 5am in Pittsburgh (it was now past noon). For the trouble there they gave us 4 free QS meals...I didn't even ask for anything. I told them the issue was probably related to the upgrade and they confirmed that when we switched resorts something got un-linked in the system and even if we had been able to enter the park our dining plan wouldn't have worked. Now our 2 year old won't have to share meals at most of our lunches! Like I said...lucky number 13 lol.

I noticed your screen name and wondered if you were from Pittsburgh! I live in South Hills (Whitehall).

Booked garden view at Contemporary, and they upgraded us to a MK view in the tower. LOVED it!

I think upgrades are smart marketing on Disney's part. Take us, for example. We had never even considered staying Club Level until one trip when we were upgraded at BC from standard room to Club Level room. VERY smart move by Disney because we have never looked back and have booked Club Level almost every trip since then, 2 or 3x a year!

Also, one trip we were upgraded to TPV at CR :cloud9:. Once we experienced a "room with a view," it's very hard to NOT book a room with a view ;).

Therefore, not only do we usually always book Club Level now, but we also book a water/lagoon/theme park view too!
For us it worked the opposite. We always thought of doing CL and then do to a real bad smelling room we were upgraded to CL and afterwards we knew it was not worth it for us.

We were staying at ASMu for an entire week starting on the Friday before Labor Day. We were put in the Country Section (think the most remote room at that resort). After two days of park storming with 10, 8 and 2 year old we were beat. The hike back to the room was killer. I went to the front desk and asked them if there were any preferred rooms available and how much more they would cost us. I explained how tired we were after being at the parks all day and then having to trek back to the room each night. The CM looked on the computer for awhile and said she was sorry, but the only room available was a family suite. I asked her how much was the price difference. She said if I could give her a few minutes, she would have to check with her manager. She and the manager came back and said that there had been some pixie dust and there would be no extra charge. I was thrilled! It was on the quiet side of the building closest to the food court and buses and we had so much room! It was the best upgrade ever!

On another trip, we stayed one night at the BC and had reserved a standard room. We checked in really early in the morning. The CM said our room wasn't ready, but if we wanted to get in a room she could upgrade us to a water view. We were thrilled to be able to get into our room that early...so we said sure. We laughed when we got to our room. It must have been considered a "water view" because if you stood on the tiny balcony and turned your head far to the right you could see the very corner of the pool. :rotfl2:Still we appreciated being in our room so early...so we considered that the upgrade perk!

Keep em coming everyone!! I love reading all of the responses :) I too was "upgraded" to a pirate room last fall at CBR. Although it was a long walk to Old Port Royale, my mom and I loved the fun theming!! pirate:

Congrats! That's an awesome upgrade!!

We have had two nice upgrades.

In 2010, we had a standard Garden wing room booked for our first stay at the CR, with a great discount code.
We arrived to find out we were family of the day, and we were given a Hospitality Suite, which was huge! Very exciting!

In 2011, we had another really good discount for the Poly, and had a garden view room booked. The code didn't start till the second night of our trip, so we had POFQ booked for the first night. When we checked in at POFQ, they told us we had been moved to the Poly for the first night as well. Then when we got to the Poly, we had been upgraded to a lagoon view (almost a park view, but a palm tree was blocking the castle unless you looked at just the right angle). It was wonderful- I could see the castle from the bed and watch it change colors as I went to sleep.

We were upgraded to a Turret Suite at the Yacht Club because our room wasn't ready, then when it was ready, they gave it away to a regular.

We got upgraded from a standard room to a preferred pool view room at CBR. Nothing too "extravagant" but it was so great and definitely appreciated!

We were extremely lucky to be upgraded from a garden view room at the Poly, to a lagoon view club level. Talk about being shocked!

I have never been upgraded at a resort, in fact I was once downgraded at all star movies. I had booked a preferred room and was given a room in the Mighty Ducks section. They did give me a discount though.

I did get a nice upgrade on our 7 day Disney cruise on the Fantasy. We had booked an inside stateroom and were upgraded to a deluxe ocean view stateroom with a verandah! That was awesome!!

We got upgraded on our babymoon in 2014! We had booked a preferred room at CBR since I was 7 months along and wanted to be close to the food and the bus stop :rolleyes1.

When we arrived at our room we discovered it was a handicap room. Ordinarily we wouldn't have given it a second thought, but the bed was SO LOW to the ground that it was hard for me to get up/down since I was so far along. We went to the front desk to see if we could get a non-handicap room and were told that the preferred class was full and that they would not put us in a "downgraded" room elsewhere on property. A few minutes and managers later and we were on our way to the Wilderness Lodge! Our first ever deluxe stay.

Now, if you look at my signature you will see that we are WL converts and absolutely fell in love with the resort!

Upgrade from a standard at the Poly, to theme park view. We were given our exact room requests on the reservation but the front desk manager made this offer and had someone escort us to both rooms to make a choice. Honestly, the standard Samoa room was a lot more convenient, but a theme park view in Tuvalu was something we'd never pay for on our own, so we took it the upgrade!

The following year we only booked one night in a standard at the Contemporary, after a cruise, and we were upgraded to a HUGE suite.. We had 4 patios! Lol. This one made sense, and I've had friends with similar experiences. It's easier to upgrade 1 nighters to suites to allow longer staying guests to fill the regular rooms.

Both were totally unexpected treats. :)

In June 2014 we did a spilt stay POR (2 nights)/ YC Standard View (6 nights)/ WL Club Level (1 night).

When we went to check in at YC, we were told that we would need to wait for someone to "come down and check us in". I knew what that meant immediately! We were upgraded to a Club Level Water View. It was a once in a lifetime upgrade. The room was handicap accessible, so I am guessing they hadn't sold the room and we were just very very lucky!

This was our view:
