Port Orleans French Quarter Q&A Thread, New for 2012 (thread now FULL and CLOSED)

:lmao: This happened to us last week! We had a FD pin, so I couldn't just look at what's open for whatever resort. I had to book CBR too. I called 4 times, and they had a garden view at POFQ. I said BOOK IT!!! :cool1:

So glad you got a room there too!!!

Fantastic! FYI, I was able to check for availability for the FD deal by going to the main website and clicking the link for the special offers. That allows you to look at resort availability specifically for the FD offer. A tip for next time!

I am having trouble booking POR online. It isn't letting me book a room because it says I have more than the allotted guest number for the room. We are a family of 6, but our little one will still be 2 when we get there. I thought the POR -AB rooms would sleep 5 + 1 person 2 and under. Am I wrong? It says on the site that all POR, no matter the category, only sleep 4. Could they just be out of AB rooms for my dates? (For the record, I took off the 2 year old and searched that way and it still wouldn't let me book a room saying I had too many in my party).

For POR, you should be able to book up to 4 adults, one child (max 17) and one infant (try selecting "Infant" as the age rather than "2", it's a glitch).

[Edit] Yes, the above search brings up all POR room types except for King Bed and the Royal Rooms.

The descriptive small print is wrong by the way, it should say "Sleeps up to 5" in the same way that King Bed says "Sleeps up to 3". That's another glitch. Oh, as is the fact that 2 adults and 1 child in a King Bed room doesn't bring up any availability even though it should. So three gliches in one page - impressive!

Thank so soo much :) Just realized I posted this on the wrong PO thread :)

No worries, it's easily done.

It was a pretty ill-conceived idea renaming the resorts to such similar names back in 2001 in the first place, it's caused varying degrees of guest confusion ever since. Fair enough that they needed to lose the Dixie Landings name, but why not just create a "Riverside Resort" to sit next to the existing "Port Orleans Resort"? Wouldn't that have been a lot simpler than renaming them both?

We are looking to stay here next June. How soon should we make reservations? Will June get booked up soon? Do we need to put money down when we reserve a room? We are still paying for this summer's DLR trip (the credit card bill hasn't come yet) and so I don't want to pay anything yet if we don't have to.

We always make our reservations in February for our stays that June or July. Never had a problem getting a room. I would suggest using Dreams Unlimited travel to book a room only and yes you will have to pay a deposit within a few days of getting a quote from them.

We're staying at the French Quarter in 3 weeks!!! We have never stayed in Disney - and we can't wait! :)

I am trying to read all the posts to learn what I can before we go.

I had a few questions -

Is the outdoor movie every night? Does anyone know the time of the movie?

Is the campfire every nite also? What time is that? and how much are the s'more kits? Are they disney themed kits? or just plain?

Thanks so much!!!!!!
Here is a link, movies are every night if weather permits, we just got back Sunday night, wonderful resort! http://www.portorleans.org/recreation-activites-schedule.php

Anything new on the refrigerators?

Not since the last time you asked, 20 hours ago, no.

Disney are still saying it could be up to four months for all of the replacements to be fitted, although I strongly suspect it might be quicker than that. Keep an eye on this thread though, and on www.portorleans.org, for any updates as and when we hear anything.

Andre

I only asked again because I had net seen a response or any other update in any of the other boards. I thought it was a harmless question but apparently I was mistaken.

It was indeed a harmless question, don't worry. However sometimes if you don't get an instant response, it may mean that no one actually has an answer for you at the moment. I've answered you as best I can above anyway, but there's nothing firm that anyone can really say at the moment other than what Disney have released so far. Keep watching for updates.

No worries, thanks again.

Thank you. That is about when I always make reservations for my DLR trips, so that should work out. I'll probably do it sometime in fall since it seems you have to make ADRs 6mo out anyway. I had planned on using Dreams for the room and tickets and everything anyway since I know nothing about WDW.

I suspect that a major reason for joining them into one resort was that it allowed Disney to close the table service restaurant at FQ. Listed amenities for Moderate resorts include a TS.

BTW, I got back yesterday from my second stay at POR. It was great but next time I want to go back to FQ.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

41 days to go! 5 weeks from yesterday! And I just started a pre-trip report (finally)!

I've been going through a backlog of photos that I'd got on my hard drive and putting them to the site. 100 or so new FQ images now uploaded this morning to www.portorleans.org/gallery-POFQ-Grounds.php. For example:
