Is it December Yet?? Cancelled with a Heavy Heart!

 HUGECHANGES to our plans!!!

I really didn't want to do anything but I need to be realistic.......there was no way we were going to be able to pay for the trip we had planned. If the IRS money gets here in time, we were still TOO FAR OUT to make this happen. So I wrote our TA and asked her to cancel our packages. :sad2:

I feel horrible, because she had made changes and was so helpful in answering questions, etc. :sad1:

NOW, don't be totally teary eyed......it is possible to still go. My son, Derek, who is doing the College Program can book rooms at a CM discount. I've priced tickets, MVMCP tickets, Premiere AP, TiW Card and questimated on rental car, gas, meals, snacks, souvenirs and airfare. IF we get the IRS money back and we can come up with about $3000 more.....we should be fine. I guestimate high and including meals for Michayla because we're unsure how many of the restaurants will actually charge for a g-tube fed child (who doesn't eat anything orally and is delayed & autistic)......but I'd rather over budget then come up short.

I'm just not sure where we can find the $3000......we're just hanging by a thread right now on monthly bills & such. Just keep sending us pixie dust & good wishes.......I really need this Disney pick-me-up.
(I lost another special lady in my life this week) :littleangel:

I did some major cutting on our dining too since we're losing the deluxe dining plan. I had to cut HDDR, CRT, Tusker Hse Brkfst, Coral Reef, Plaza Inn, & California Grill. We'll be doing more meals at our resort......which also will change to All Star Movies (where Derek works, that way he can stay with us the entire time we're there). :goodvibes

Thanks for still hanging with me!!! I've appreciated all the support and kind words. :grouphug:

Praying and sending good thoughts your way

That was good idea to get Derek's CM discount for rooms

Sometimes, they can also get your a discounted dining Cm plan, but normally something that is done last minute. I know my friend's CM friend has gotten her one before

:goodvibes

Thanks Kelly!! I didn't know the CM's could get dining! I think we'd be ok with how I was figuring prices if I get the AP and TiW card...that way I get discounts on food AND merchandise. At this point, we just need the tides to change and things to start having a positive outlook........I"m trying to stay upbeat but sheesh.....when is this year gonna stop beating me up?? Just a little luck is all I'm asking!! :rolleyes2:flower3:

I am so sorry you have to change your plans Laurie. I hope you get some money in soon so you don't have to cancel all together. And I hope you can afford the difference. You guys totally deserve this trip!

I think your new plans still sound pretty good Laurie. Praying the funds come to pull it off.

Just a couple things that may help. Do you have Safeway gas stations by you? The way I have been paying for my trip is by buying Disney Gift Cards at Safeway. When you buy gift cards you earn 4x the fuel rewards. (through 9/30, not sure if it will be extended). So for example you but $100 gc. You save $.40/gal of gas. $250 gc = $1/gal savings. I've been doing this all summer and this way my hubby fills up his truck in CO and we save on the budget there. I look at it as saving almost 10% in the long run with my hubby needing so much gas. Even if you just get a $50 gift card every other week it will add to the funds and save a bit on gas.

The other way is Target. I do not have a red card but I have heard with that you can save 5% and if you fill prescriptions at Target you can get Pharmacy rewards which is another 5%. So if you have both it's almost a 10% savings that way.

Another thing you might look into is the YES program for Anthony and Addy. I've heard you can get cheap tickets by doing that!!

Thanx Andrea!! We're trying.....it was hard enough sending the TA the cancellation email and dropping some of our ADR's.....I'm just not ready to totally give up on it yet!

My husband works for Safeway. lol I would be buying gift cards if we had any money to do so......we've been "robbing Peter to pay Paul"......so unless Ty can get a job pronto....I don't know where we'll see the extra money we need. We have a little more time cancelling the package (it was due the 3rd week of Oct) but we have to know 100% we can make up the difference before I purchase airline tickets!! (which I found today for $2400 for the 7 of us round trip) (best price to date)

Your new plan looks like a lot of fun! I tried not to put too much dining in my plan since West Coasters are so used to CS for almost every meal, the idea of making more than one TS reservation per day sounded exhausting, and your new plan sounds much more streamlined and West-Coast-ey. ;)

And $342 per person on airfare is great. Hope your tax money comes through. pixiedust:

I've been reading some, but don't believe I've replied before...Nobody will charge you for her, as long as you state (esp at buffets) that she will not be eating--we usually do that at check in at buffets, so they mark it on the check. The only place we were expecting to pay for our GT fed daughter (didn't end up scheduling it in the end) was Hoop Dee Doo (or other dinner shows like it), since you're paying for a show and food, they can't separate it out.

I'm still crossing my fingers for you that the money comes through. Your family definately deserves this trip :)

Thanx!! We're trying hard to make this dream come true!!

The flights keeping going all over the place in price.....last week it would have run us almost $1000 more, so hoping I can find these prices when I actually have the money to purchase them!! Anyone know what United's baggage policy/prices are??

We tend to do 2 big meals a day on our trips (DL) and not really snack, so we figured the same for this trip....but now we've cut out a lot of our 2nd big meals in a day and going to quick service and snacks to fill in. With the twins, we kinda needed the TS meals as a time to unwind and relax but we'll work with what we have if we can JUST GO!! :goodvibes

Welcome and thank you for replying!!! We've heard it's kinda hit and miss on being charged or not being charged......so we thought it best to plan on paying for all those meals and if we don't get charged.....it's a few extra dollars in the souvenir department. :p

We've been having issues with Michayla banging her head and smacking her arm on walls really hard......found out this afternoon that a fall she had a month ago actually caused a fracture in her arm. Tyler (my 25yr old), was carrying her to bed and they fell over a baby gate and he landed on her. I was concerned about a break and we took her to the ER. We waited over 2 hrs in the lobby and finally got back to the see the Dr. We saw him for 2 mins......really! Since she had her arm under her head as she was lying on the bed, they decided an xray wasn't needed. I wish I would have put my foot down. The next week she was still favoring it and it was bruised up. Well since then, she has started hitting her forehead with her finger, then toys and then full on head banging......getting harder and harder. She also smacks her arm on walls at full force. So I took her in today to rule out ear infections, etc. Since her little receptors in her brain work differently, we were hoping maybe an undetected illness was the cause. She's healthy, but the dr decided to xray the arm just in case.......well, it has a fracture!! :scared1: I feel terrible that I didn't push the xray!! Now we're waiting for a call from the ortho. I'm not sure if they'll do anything or just monitor it. I'm actually hoping they'll cast it just to protect it until it does heal fully. Heaviest of sighs.........

Don't beat yourself up. This is their bad. They should have spent more time with her and check it more completely. Shame on the ER.

I agree with Chele. Shame on ER indeed. They should have spent more time with her

Thanx ladies.....just frustrated, even after I told the dr that she doesn't react to pain like the rest of us and if she cried for over an hour straight....there was a problem!! Well I get to call the ortho first thing in the morning and hopefully they'll work her in so we can figure out what's going on and what we can do.

You did the best you could. You took her to the ER.

Poor Michayla. I hope the ortho can help her out and I hope the ortho understands her special needs. It's so frustrating when they don't.

Thank you.....we'll make sure that the ortho knows she's smacking that arm really hard on walls and stuff......I think casting it would be the best way to let it heal.....so I'll be advocating for that or a hard brace that ace bandages on. Something to protect it.

Don't feel bad for not pushing the x-rays. Sometimes that isn't even enough. When I was 12/13, I hurt my foot playing basketball with a friend of mine. My mom took me to the ER, we got the x-rays and the Dr. said that it was just a bone bruise. A co-pay and set of crutches later, we were out the door.

I was glad it wasn't broken, because the next day, was my class trip to the local amusement park (now a Six Flags). So, not wanting to slow my friends down (nor limit the time I had for rides), I decided to limp my way through the park. When we returned to the school, the bus pulled into the school, my dad was waiting for me (I thought I was in trouble for something :scared1: ). I got off the bus, he said "Let's go." On the way to the hospital, he told me that the Dr.'s supervisor saw the x-rays and wanted me back IMMEDIATELY for a cast.

When HE showed us the x-rays, it was obvious to my dad and me, the my foot had a clean break across the middle, from big toe to the piggy that went home.

So, you did everything right. The people that you put your faith in, let you down.

Wow, at least you got to enjoy the park...lol I've heard of mis-reading xrays.....unfortunately that happens....but it sounds like yours was a no-brainer!!! At least they followed up and got it fixed.

My hubby has pretty much taken the blame on this.....he said he was the one that said an xray wasn't needed and the dr agreed.....but I also feel, it's the doctor's license and reputation that's on the line and when you have a non-vocal, mentally delayed, autistic child.....it's better to cover your bases then to leave things undone. :headache: Well getting ready to call the ortho and hope we can get her in today!

Continuing to pray that the money comes through for you guys!

I agree don't beat yourself up over the X-ray. Hope she feels better soon tho, will pray it heals quickly.
