The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Ellen - Are you close to Omaha? Just curious as our LSU Tiger baseball team is headed there for the College World Series!:cheer2:

Next time I would like to macerate the berries with Grand Marnier, but the kids were eating so I decided to leave it out.

Probably a good decision. Although next time, you could have two batches...one kid friendly, one adult friendly.

Nancy -- Buddy must be relieved that all that work is done. Good luck to Marisa today. I hope she doesn't need surgery.

Charlene -- Thanks for posting the pictures. Your son is so handsome. on the driving though! Happy birthday to your DH!

Lauren -- I loved the picture of Andrew (and not just because of the Red Sox hat ;)). I can't believe how big Thomas is getting. He is adorable!

Aimee -- Have fun at Seaworld!

Vickie -- Good to hear from you. Take it easy!

Liam has another game tonight and Caili has skating. My dad is taking Liam out to eat while Caili skates, then Caili and I will eat something at the game. I'm not sure what that will be yet.

Oh, and I heard from Greg this morning. He passed the PT test, so he is officially in the class now.

Vickie, I am glad the Dr. is forcing you to take extra recovery time. That is a good thing in my opinion.

Laura, good news on Greg.

Nancy, Buddy and you must be relieved to have all that major work done.

Ugh, I hate cars an dthe trouble that comes with them. We have to take my car into the shop tomorrow. The exhaust is not sounding to good. Say a prayer it is nothing major, I hate spending $$$$$ on the car right now. Vent over.

Ann

Good morning! Dinner tonight is going to be the salmon I had purchased for yesterday's dinner before the Giant Clam Revolution. I have some arugula, so I am thinking grilled salmon on a bed of slightly wilted arugula, with a crusty baguette.

Sandy / Kathy, I was glad they sent the stringbean girl packing on Food Network Star. What was she think with just stringbeans??
Yep, they sent the right person home last night.
Did you see the look on Alton Brown's face when over-the-top Michael (the gay guy) was introducing himself? He obviously wasn't buying his act. Everyone else seemed to like him though.
That cubed angel food cake with jelly on it was just ridiculous.

WFD? Grilled Italian sausage with peppers and onions. I think for dessert I'm going to grill pineapple and drizzle it with carmel sauce.

I had a doc's appointment on thursday.

She refused to sign me back to work for another 4 weeks which surprised me.

Then she ran through exactly what had been done and i was a wee bit shocked. They took away a wee bit more than I thought and had to do a fair bit tidying up.

Sorry I know TMI !!

My weekend was pretty quiet. The boy was to dance at our town fair but good old Scottish weather put paid to that, rained buckets !!

Vickie- I am also glad that you are getting some enforced rest! Sorry that the rain spoiled your boy's plans, but nice that the movie helped.

It's Glacier Blue Metallic and I LOVE it!!

My Sis IL has a CRV and she also loves it! Our friends down the street looked at a lot of cross overs and ended up with the CRV as well, they are researchers so the reviews got then to check it out, the car sold them! No buyers remorse either!

I would have sent her home just for that ridiculous dessert! Between her shopping trip, the willy-nilly tossing groceries out and her "executive" decision to make that mess I was :sad2:

Green bean girl was way over her head though, and needed to go home.

Ann- I hope that the care is an easy fix!

I really like the guy that won the competition last night, Jeffrey. I agree green bean girl was the right choice to go but Debbie was horrid.:scared:

Congrats to Greg!!!!!:thumbsup2

Vent away my friend, prayers coming your way.

Sorry if I missed anyone I am higher than a kite passing my physical and not thinking clearly sorry. Everyone have a wonderful day.

Quick check in today. Having to actually work while at work. :sad2: Oh well. Dinner tonight is lasagna with garlic bread and salad. I spent yesterday making two trays, one for tonight and one for the freezer. I figured with Dad's situation, I needed to start stocking the freezer with meals that Kenny can just heat up. Does anyone have any other freezer meal suggestions?

Ellen - Are you close to Omaha? Just curious as our LSU Tiger baseball team is headed there for the College World Series!:cheer2:

We are about 3 hours to the West of Omaha. Actually if you look at the USA we are smack dab in the middle of the map - Lexington. We fly out of Omaha next Monday and we fly back in on the 23 and I had a devil of a time getting a room because of the College World Series. I forgot all about it. Silly me. Is there any chance you will be visiting?

Marisa ~ good luck today at the doctor's.

Ann ~ Please rest and get those feet up. Good luck with the car!

Aimee ~ any word about Ace and a new home. Fingers are crossed.

Gretchen ~ I love the thought of Hailey sitting in the pedi chair. Gave me a real warm fuzzy. What a sweetie. Loved the story of Patrick too.

Kat ~ Happy late birthday to Kyle. I would love to have some of that Dirt Cake. Sounds really yummy.

Nancy ~ What a relief that you and Buddy got all of the settings done this weekend.

Becky ~ Happy packing. Safe travels my friend.

Lauren ~ what beautiful children you do have.

Lindsay ~ great news about Scott's Mother

Laura ~ congratulations to Greg!

Okay my mind is now officially mush. Hugs and good thoughts to all of the rest of you.

Unfortunately a trip now is impossible, but I will be glued to the TV cheering for my Tigers!:cheer2:

Good afternoon, everyone! I'm back! I'm going to post pictures, but it will take a while. I've got to charge up the camera battery, do umpteen loads of laundry and try to reclaim the house. I thought I would get a whole lot done, today, but it didn't happen. I got his with the after vacation exhausted bug, and haven't done much but nap today. I did manage to get Aimee's crockpot orange beef recipe going, and it smells wonderful! Can't wait for dinner.

The trip was WONDERFUL! I'm absolutely positive that my mom was looking after us. We were sprinkled with so much pixie dust! I'll put together a trip report and post it, if anyone is interested.

I'll start with the photos tomorrow. For now, I've got to get myself in gear!

Hugs to you all, and know that I thought about each and every one of you while I was gone. You are all in my heart!

Marilyn, good luck getting all that paperwork processed. I have been craving rock crabs...hope you get your blue crabs soon.

I am about half way through it. I got one part done, now it is a matter of getting it all logged into the computer which will probably be all day tomorrow.

I did get the crabs yesterday but felt so exhausted that I just couldn't enjoy them.

Marilyn Is there a big taste difference between the different crabs?

It depends on the crab, some have a milder, sweeter flavor.

I also made a little dessert concoction that turned out well. I was just going to make strawberry shortcakes. I took the easy way out and bought the individual dessert cups at the bakery. But I decided to fill the indention with hot fudge, put the macerated berries on top, then whipped cream, and then more hot fudge. Yummo! Next time I would like to macerate the berries with Grand Marnier, but the kids were eating so I decided to leave it out.

Yummy! Whole Foods has the dessert cups that are chocolate, next time I go I will have to get some and make that.

Does anyone have any other freezer meal suggestions?

I make little individual meatloaves and just thaw them and add a sauce to them at baking.

I had a late lunch of McD's and I may just have a few leftover crabs for dinner later.

YES, we want details & pics!!!!!!!! So glad to hear it was a wonderful vacation.:thumbsup2

Lauri- I am so happy for you! Now enjoy your three months before you are back to work!

Glynis- Welcome Home! I missed you! I am looking forward to your trip report once you are rested from your vacation. I am :rotfl2: becasue it always seems strange to me that a vacation is needed after a vacation but I do remember when Buddy and I took the kids to WDW 20 years ago. We also had his nephew. 10 days later and I thought I was gong to die! Then, like you there was laundry and cleaning and I was :faint: just thinking about it

Dinner was grilled chicken, baked sweet potatoes, salad and corn.

Glynis--glad to hear your vacation was so nice! Can't wait to see pics and get a TR!

Lauri--:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Scotlass--yes, you need to take that extra time to get better!

Well, I crossed another hurdle in coming to meet some of ya'll for F&W! My girlfriend booked a room today!:cool1: Checking in the 16th and checking out the 18th! I think she booked us at OKW (b/c a studio has 2 beds) but then we're waitlisted for BWV or BC, I can't remember which. I told DH, and he was cool with it! Woo Hoo!!!
