The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

The last time he went, I dragged him into every clothing store in the mall, tried on dozens of outfits, and ended up leaving without anything. He was not pleased.
.

Buddy reminded me of this same thing today. I told him it was his fault...he made me nervous!

Just a quicky to say the boy is so much better today...thanks for the concern.

I really could rant on about my in laws but I dont come here to rant.

Glad to hear The Boy is better today! You can come and rant anytime, I do ;) Don't worry about what anyone thinks about your parenting, you know your son and you know when he needs to see the Dr.

Tell him that he may not care if his butt looks big in a pair of pants but you do! ;)

:lmao::lmao:

I'm kinda concerned for Kyle and his new "employment". He starts umpiring baseball games tonight. The pay is really good and he's really excited about it. I just worry about him getting some stupid parent angry and them retaliating.

Okay, Mom...take a breath and remember that Kyle is good at baseball and he will be good as an umpire. Laura is right, no one can say anything or they may just lose that game.

just a quick fly by here. Our power has been out all day, making my getting ready a pain. Not fun packing in the heat. Now it's off to the airport!

Sorry about the heat! Have fun and be safe!

Thank you all.... :cool1::cool1: He got the job, and starts June 1 :cool1::cool1:

My Dr. appointment went well.

Wonderful news! It is going to make some nice changes in the DisneyRon house!

I love those baby updates!

Nancy- We have the same problem finding my husband shirts. He's also 6'6" and he has a 34" waist (he thinks it's 36, but it's not), but his neck and shoulders are huge. Someone told me to get "athletic" cut or something like that. We have yet to find a dress shirt he can button the top button. Fortunalty we both hate clothes shopping so we try to get it done quickly.

Big guy you got there :) I have tried to find the athletic cuts but have had no luck. He has had suits made, it ended up cheaper than the massive alterations that the off the rack suits needed.

I am not feeling well;

Is this what WW plan does to you? If it is we need to find another that is better suited for your health.

Courtney surgery did go well, but she had a bad afternoon & night.

Well that is not good! I hope that her pain is better managed.

Chicken Salad Veronique:
Ingredients

  • 4 split (2 whole) chicken breasts, bone-in, skin-on
  • Good olive oil
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup good mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh tarragon leaves
  • 1 cup small-diced celery (2 stalks)
  • 1 cup green grapes, cut in 1/2
Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Place the chicken breasts, skin side up, on a sheet pan and rub them with olive oil. Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper. Roast for 35 to 40 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through. Set aside until cool.
When the chicken is cool, remove the meat from the bones and discard the skin and bones. Cut the chicken into a 3/4-inch dice. Place the chicken in a bowl; add the mayonnaise, tarragon leaves, celery, grapes, 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons salt, and 1 teaspoon pepper and toss well.

Not alot of mayo & there is a video on FoodTV
I made this with slivered almonds for a shower several years ago.

I am feeling pretty darn good today! I know the anesthesia hasn't worn off & the steroids have kicked in yet but I'll take anyday that I feel good!

[

Im glad your had a good day sweetie...aren't " legal " drugs great !!

I am not feeling well; I guess the apple last night sent me over the edge :confused3 The vicodin has taken the edge off and I'm now getting hungry without being nauseated. I was going to make orange beef in the crockpot but could barely stand up straight this morning, and knew beef was the last thing I needed to eat for dinner, so dinner is anyone's guess. I may just eat soup.

I hope you get your diet needs sorted soon.

Courtney surgery did go well, but she had a bad afternoon & night. They did not hook up the "push the button for drugs thingy" until 7:00 this morning!!!:mad: I briefly talked to her Mom & she sounded really upset & frazzled! They did give her a shot of morphine but that wasn't until 4 or 5 this morning. They had her on demerol & it wasn't helping at all. Poor thing and it's only supposed to get worse when they release her. So please more prayers for Courtney!

Well thats just made me flamin mad...the girl was gettin surgery and they didnt have her meds ready....how is that possible.:confused3

I am sending hugs and good vibes ower the water for Courtney...and not such good vibes for he med team !!

I'm kinda concerned for Kyle and his new "employment". He starts umpiring baseball games tonight. The pay is really good and he's really excited about it. I just worry about him getting some stupid parent angry and them retaliating.

Kathy, your a mum and its your job to worry but Im sure your boy will handle any situation with ease....he's got a good head on his shoulders.

Must be his upbringing....:thumbsup2

Thank you all.... :cool1::cool1: He got the job, and starts June 1 :cool1::cool1:

My Dr. appointment went well. Everything is right as it should be. I am measuring perfect and the baby's heartbeat was 128. The Dr. is thrilled with my progress. I lost a pound and my BP was great. She suggested prisolac or zantac for my heartburn. Next appointment will be in 2 weeks, then I am down to weekly appointments.

.

Ann

:cheer2: for DH and baby too....crack a bud for me !!

Liam pitched tonight, but he had a bad outing. He felt really terrible because his teammates were all excited that he was pitching, and thought they would automatically win, but Liam didn't have it tonight. He was tired, and the pitcher's mound was flat and full of holes, so he couldn't push off the mound like he wanted to. It was hard to watch. Kathy can relate, I'm sure.

Oh poor Liam, but next time he'll nail it....:thumbsup2

Tell him that he may not care if his butt looks big in a pair of pants but you do! ;)

I dont know if I should share this but your post made me laugh so much coffee came out my nose !!

I know too much information.:upsidedow

And ye know what...youse are right....I am a good mum....just not the best daughter in law.

Oh well,we cant be good at every thing and Im sure as heck not gonnae lose sleep over it.

Ann- Great news!! That's so exciting for all of you, though I think your parents might miss you for dinners.

Vickie- Shouldn't you be asleep now? The only thing that keeps me from complaining about my inlaws here is I wouldn't stop. They have told me to my face my husband (their son) is a dissapointment for not graduating college and he needs to find a respectable job, he does have one, just not good enough to them. Mind you, he loves his job and has been supporting us with that job. They have barely spoken to me since I stood up for him. The important thing is my husband and I are on the same side and my little girl thinks her dad hung the moon. I think that somes them up so I won't complain anymore. I have good company in the bad daughter-in-law club.

So much for not complaining, sorry guys. I thought I was going to say something else other than list my complaints.

I remember what I was going to ask- how do I add the vacation countdown to the bottom? I searched the other day with no luck, but I did see Kathy wants to be my friend, sorry that took forever! I'm pretty clueless here.

Just popping in with the salad recipe

Curried Chicken Salad

6 bone in, skin on split chicken breasts, rubbed with olive oil, seasoned with salt and pepper, and roasted at 350 until just cooked, about 35-40 minutes. Remove and discard skin and cut meat into chunks (or use leftover chicken, or rotisserie chicken)

Dressing
Combine the following all in food processor until smooth:

1.5 cups mayonaisse
1/3 cup white wine
1/4 cup major grey's mango chutney
3 tbsp. curry powder
1.5 tsp salt

Mix into chicken. Add the following:

1 cup diced celery
1/4 cup chopped scallions
1/2 cup raisins
1 cup whole roasted cashews

serves 6-8

Talk to you tomorrow! :)

Kat, Kyle will be okay, you raised him right.

Vickie, so glad "the boy" is better today. Don't get me started on in-laws!
Your a good Mom, you know that we know that & MOST important your lucky son knows that:hug:Lauren
Glynis is right, we are here for good & bad times.

Sheryl~ loved the new FB pictures!

Lauren, thinking of your Mom & Sis.....

Laura, tell Liam we are all cheering for him.

Ann~ I am thrilled for your family news!!!!!! Wonderful days are ahead for your family, new job, new baby arriving, life is good.

BBL....

Hey lassies...

Lights oot in the Scotlass hoose.

This time difference really does my head in,I miss all the chat...but hey Santa does hit my hoose first so I guess its swings and round abouts !! ;)

Night,night god bless..x

I remember what I was going to ask- how do I add the vacation countdown to the bottom? I searched the other day with no luck, but I did see Kathy wants to be my friend, sorry that took forever! I'm pretty clueless here.

I have a ticker and I would love to help...but I cant.

I poster walked me through it and it worked out more by accident than design.

Sorry.:upsidedow

Really is lights oot now...x

They have told me to my face my husband (their son) is a dissapointment for not graduating college and he needs to find a respectable job, he does have one, just not good enough to them. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! That just makes me ! My DH mother thinks that he is a failure, she told him that he would not amount to anything :sad2:. Your IL's sound like they would not know a successful man if he bit them in the butt!

Well shopping was a breeze! Buddy complained all the way to the store that all makes and models of shirts should be made according to the same specifications :woohoo: so that he would not need to go through all this shopping :lmao: he got his shirt and another tie and then we went for me. I think I am taking him again! I wanted one outfit and ended up getting 5. And in record time! I put one back but he had seen it on and tossed it in the pile:thumbsup2 I should apologize for teasing about him all day but I won't although he is still smoldering a little...I told him that his expand a button shirt was like a seatbelt extender :rotfl2:

DInner was left overs. Buddy turned his into sandwiches

Hey y'all, my internet, TV & phone have been out for the past couple of hours. I only had time to update the OP(pics & recipes) and not catch up with y'all, hopefully I will be able to tomorrow. Hugs and good thoughts to all who need them, again, sorry.

Where's Janice?????

Hey fine lassies....

Just a quicky to say the boy is so much better today...thanks for the concern.

I really could rant on about my in laws but I dont come here to rant.

Lets just say....

If I felt MY BOY needed to see a doctor I would take him.
I know my son.
I would not go to work and leave him if I felt he was still very poorly.

Im a good mum.

Ok,thats kinda a mini rant but Im

I have read back and I want to reply to some things but I will BBL when Im back to my cheery, chirpy self....

 I, too, have difficult inlaws.

I'm so sorry you're not feeling well, hope you start feeling better soon. When you feel up to it could you post the orange beef recipe if it hasn't already been posted?/QUOTE]

It's a new crockpot recipe out of Woman's Day - if it's tasty I'll post it :thumbsup2

Thank you all.... :cool1::cool1: He got the job, and starts June 1 :cool1::cool1: This means huge changes for DH. He is going to be able to retire from his fulltime day job after 28 years and collect a pension. He will also be able to quit his part-time night job and work just one job like normal people!! It will be nice to have him with home more with the kids and I!!! :goodvibes

:yay::yay::yay:

Is this what WW plan does to you? If it is we need to find another that is better suited for your health.

Nah, I don't think it's WW. This DD (damn disease) just has up's and down's. Anytime I attempt to watch my calorie intake, which is naturally done through more fruits and veggies, I have issues finding out what my Crohns can handle.

I have good company in the bad daughter-in-law club.

So much for not complaining, sorry guys. I thought I was going to say something else other than list my complaints.

Grrr! I haven't spoken to my ILs since January. It's been freeing!!

Vickie, Aimee and Robin -- Add me to the list of people who struggle with ILs. Over the years, it has changed, but there are still times when there are problems. My favorite recently was when my MIL declared DH extraordinary and said Liam would never measure up.

I wanted one outfit and ended up getting 5.

Can Buddy come shopping with me? That is so great.

So...dinner was baked haddock, roasted potatoes, broccoli, and sauteed asparagus and corn.

Good Morning!

I am going to see Mom today so cooking tonight will probably be the burgers that I did not cook yesterday. We wound up going out last night to the rib place. I needed to get out and not in the mood to cook after trying to get the house in order all day. Oh, and did I mention I needed a drink??? They make the best Mai Tai’s!

Thanks for all the good thoughts for Andrew. He is feeling good and the swelling went down. They won their 2nd game on Wed. and he is doing really well. Almost hit another ball out of the field. Must be that $300 bat that his dad bought him! Lol

So, lets see how well I can catch up…please forgive me if I miss something.

Glynis, I am so excited for you and your upcoming trip!!! Any updates on Claire? She is still in my prayers.

Becky, Pics are great as usual! That confetti orzo looks like something my picky eaters would enjoy. Gotta put that on the list of things to try.

Kathy, I think I tried that Chicken Seinfeld from the original thread and loved it. Good luck to Kyle…Mom?, he will be fine! Tell him “Way to go Blue” for me! Boys can start umping here at 13 or is it 15 (as a fielding ump) but make $30/game. I think that is pretty good for not even being able to get working papers. My nephew did it for a while in high school and made good $.

Marisa, We worry about our kids too with weight. I am sure Kady is fine just keep her active and teach her to eat healthy. It is hard with Andrew now since he could eat an entire meal a half hour after he gets done with one…It is so nice that Kady can go outside to play. The houses in our neighborhood are so spread apart and on a hill that there are not many children running around the streets.

Janice, Glad you are getting your planting done. I am almost ready to put some flowers in the ground. I would love a veggie garden but not at that point yet. We have so many other things to do outside that I cannot focus on that now. We also have a lot of deer so need to put up a 8 – 10 foot fence for it.

Robin, I have to look for that Cook yourself Thin show. I am really struggling with eating. I need to clean out the house and get rid of all the fattening things. When does your job start? Sorry you have IL problems as well…As far as tickers go, I am not sure I can help but if you see a ticker you like, click on it and it should bring you to the website to create it. Then you create it and copy the link into your signature set up (there is a section on the left side of your CP page to create a siggie). I hope this makes some sense.

Thanks all for the congratulations for DH. I still don't think he can believe he won't have two jobs...it has been almost 15 years.

Nancy, like you said big changes in the DisneyRon household.
Robin, you are right my parents are going to miss us being there so much. DM made the comment yesterday she won't see the new baby as much as DS. I told her DS is going to have withdrawals and it just means they are going to have to come to our house now more often. I also told her we can do lunch now!

Vickie, Maria, Aimee & Laura- add me to the list of rotten DIL, well at least in their eyes and they have never even met me. :rotfl: Don't get me started, very long story. It still floors me how stubborn people can be. I just can't imagine ignoring my beautiful DS when you live right next door to him. At least he has one set of sane loveable grandparents who treat him wonderful. Imagine, they do not even know we are expecting again. I could go on and on but I won't.

I read and did not absorb to much because DS got me up early today. Couple of comments...
Kathy, Kyle is going to just fine umpiring.
Nancy, how was shopping.
Becky, the curry shrimp thing looked great.
Sheryl, glad you trip to the dr. helped your pain a bit.

Hugs to all our WFD kids, who bring alot of smiles to all of us.

WFD- DH is so happy to be home on a friday night that he wants takeout Fish & Chips.

TGIF,
Ann

Nancy, the wine Welby has been making sounds so yummy! Glad you are enjoying it! Glad you guys made it through shopping! Tom is another that hates it…unless its for tools or guns, etc.

Maria, Glad Greg is doing well. What did you think of the NJ housewives? I didn’t catch the whole show but I think they could have found some better looking women and that one is so trashy. You are so lucky to be seeing Bruce! I have to try your chimmichuri sauce…looks good.

Ann, how did your Dad make out at his follow up? I am so happy for Ron!!! What great timing on the new job! Glad things are going well with you too!

Stephanie, I hope you have a good trip! I am so happy about Kris! I voted about 10 Xs but have to vote lots more than that next week! I am another that cannot stand Adam.

Vickie, glad your boy is feeling better. I am sorry you are having in law aggrevation. It is so neat your friend is on the apprentice!

Laura, I loved the videos you have on FB! Caili is doing so well with her skating! I am sorry that Liam had a tough game the other night. It is so hard to watch…Andrew had some errors in the field on Wed and it is so hard for them to brush it off.

I love hearing everyone’s food nicknames for the kids…I guess you all know my two are the Beans (even the dog has Bean in his name)!

Sheryl, glad you are feeling good and that Courtney’s surgery went well. That sucks about the meds…what the heck were the nurses and docs thinking? How can they forget to give someone a pain pump? I loved that thing in the hospital…I was so sad to see it go after a day. I loved the pics of Alexis on FB.

Aimee, I am sorry you were not feeling well. I hope today finds you better. I really need WW…

I think that pretty much covers everything but Where is Janice? And Bethany?

*********
Have a wonderful day, my friends! TGIF!

DS's food nickname is Peanut and sometimes
Peanut Butter
...why I don't know, but that is what he ended up with from me.

Lauren, thanks for asking about my Dad. He goes back in September again.
He is still sore which at his age is normal. Told him to continue his meds as needed. He is on an anti-inflamatory and Oxycontin for pain. DM has her Thyroid biopsy scheduled for June 3, I will keep you posted on that and probably have questions for you. I asked her if they called it a lump or nodule but she did not remember. I mentioned what you said about goyters.
Glad A is better, hug that baby for me.

Just popping in for a quick hey. I will catch up later. I have a ton to do today and will be making a quick brinner tonight.

Ann A quick :thumbsup2 on the new job for your husband. I know he and you must be beyond happy.

Sorry I have been so busy lately. Alex has a big project coming up that he needs my/the computer for. Tonight he will be by his dad so I'll have my computer.

Minnie my little dog is still feeling bad if she can have some prayers I would appreciate it. She is getting up there in people years. She is eating and going outside just laying around looking pitiful.

Alex's nickname when he was little was peanut head. No he didn't have a small head either. He would die if I called him that around people now.:rotfl2:

I'll be back later after work. Don't be too chatty so I can catch up.
