I can always use more neighbors, so send a PM if you want my FB info.
The energy and good thing doesn't bother me much. I run trains, and now run ships, so the energy that had been going into crops is lessened. I need more of the permits to expand though - it's getting cramped, and I think a couple of my buildings are now hidden behind other ones.
I'm trying to figure out the balance of energy and goods. Do you feel running the train is a good use of coins? I'm getting close to my pier.
Running trains is not a bad use of coins. I'm not anywhere close to buying the 500,000 coin structures, but I generally have cash reserves of 10-15,000 coins, but far fewer goods, so I would happily trade 1100 coins (or whatever it is) for 250 goods.
One thing I do try and do is harvest crops on other cities, instead of running the tour busses. I don't get the 25 coins/bus, but I do get 15 goods/crop.
Are any of you running the "power" plot scenario? I just started doing it with a 4x4 business (pool hall). I have surrounded it entirely with fountains, arboretums, and other plain old coin items. The result is a plot that has a 247% bonus everytime I collect. By using the Pool Hall, all I have to do is run the Charlie train every 5 minutes, and cash in! Thanks to the "move" function, I can also take my 4x4 housing units and move them into the same plot when they are ready to take advantage of the same bonus.
I'm also setting up a 3x3 plot to do the same thing, again over 200% bonus with every collection.
It really cuts down on energy usage and goods, as well, while making tons of money. Today alone I've done 3 expansions, plus purchased other units, so I'm certain I made well over 100,000 coins.
If you go to zynga's official website and hit their forums you can find the thread that talks about how to set up a super plot, complete with diagrams.
The thread is called "231% bonus" but people have been tweaking the arrangements to make it better.
If you are willing to dish out some real cash for City Cash, then you can boost it even higher.

Saw that power plot thing but it's not aesetically pleasing.I want a pretty looking town.
One thing I did learn was when a neighbors train comes for goods, it doesn't matter if you have the goods or not. They don't come out of your inventory. you're just a 'stop'. So if a neighbors train shows up to buy, accept it.
I agree about the power plot not looking pretty, but I'm using it to get myself a good, healthy bank account, then I'll start true city planning.
I could use more neighbors too. I sent out a couple of PM's but I pretty sure that I'm already friends with some of ya'll...![]()
Yeah, I hear that. I need to make a master list, just to keep track of what names people use online versus in "real life".Are we? I have a hard time remembering real names to Dis names. I need a cheat sheet or something.![]()
I saw a thread on the Zynga message boards talking about the cinema.
Apparently...when you have the goal and $50K, the game takes it from you and doesn't give you anything to show for it. Plus...in order to buy the cinema, you have to have $100K!
I had $50,189 until the goal popped up and poof...$50K gone! Now I managed to climb back with $2,432.
Am I understanding this correctly?
I've never heard of a game that takes money from you...you have no choice in the matter...and makes you pay double for the business! And I think it will happen to everyone eventually when you get that goal to complete. I have a LONG way to go to complete this one!
This is absurd!![]()
A million coins? Who ever heard of such a thing? I think these programmers and developers are on something!I don't play this game but that's how Frontierville worked. Some of the quests took a million coins when you finished them- and you lost your reserve and had no choice about it. Yeah, that was not fun!

As I said, losing the 50k was rough. I basically tried to stock up on as many good as possible, but it still took a while to recoup the loss. If I had to do it again, I would try to build the city more (do the 2k population goal) first, and keep the cash reserves under 40k. I did them in the opposite order, and getting the 100k for the cinema was harder.
I'm more than a little miffed at Mafia Wars right now. Some of the Bangcock missions pay $5k or so, and you need $2.3 million in gear to complete it. Yeah. . . .
