Zoo Tag Progress Thread:ALL HERE.. POSTAL 9/4

Hey there, Biome Buddies! Just checking in to get your opinions. I know our group is a "Biome" group and we didn't sign up for animals. I am not sure what you guys are expecting in a biome group, but this is what I've been working on. If this is not right for this group, let me know, and I'll switch animals in one of my other groups. I was trying to be a little generic with my tundra elements. I was hoping that these could be used for a zoo page, or perhaps with a layout with kids playing with any white stuff that would happen to fall from the sky.

I'm really happy with how this hand-torn bear turned out. I was planning on adding "Brrrrr..." either with stamps (if my friend has them) or rub-ons.

Now with this one, I was thinking about adding "Baby it's cold outside" that would take up more blank space or another "Brrrr.." that would leave room for journaling.

Can I please get your opinions?
Is it okay for the biome group?
Space for journaling or not?
Which way do you like the penguins? Vertical or horizontal? (no animals glued down yet)
I realize polar bears are more north and penguins are more south, but I liked them together as tundra-type animals.;)

Those are so cute.

I love the tear bear. That is something I want to try......

I have thought about using sandpaper for the top layer of my tag to place a die cut of a coyote and cactus on since I have desert. What do you think?

Sounds great to me!
I'm guessing that means you are okay with animals on our biome tags.:)

I think that would be just fine for biomes... especially with your little sayings that you are going to add...

Hey, I'm not in biomes...but can I get directions for that bear... I love him!!!! :)

Sandpaper.. WHAT a cute idea!!! I think that would be okay... especially if the animals /cactus will be sitting on it...

please please please tell me I'm in your group!!!! I love the tear bears and have yet to see one in person!
Crap just realized they are in the Biome group. Darn it all!!!!

Very cute! I think it fits the biome. Those tearbears are so cute but I've yet to try one.

Congrats on the new cart, Buffy!

All my designs are done, my supplies purchased and my tags cut. I'm working on assembling.

Thank you all for your kind words. I'm glad you like them, and I'll be able to use them for the biomes group. I've got a vote for the vertical penguin.:) The bear just seems to fit better horizontal. I don't know if people would want to journal on the penguin one.

I'm no expert, but this is what I've been doing.
I started by making a pattern for my bear. It's not as hard as it sounds since you don't have to be too exact since the edges will be fuzzy anyway. It's really a lot of circles and ovals.
Then I traced the pieces on my paper. Some directions say mulberry paper, some say handmade paper. My mulberry paper is so thin, that it was harder to work with and when I previously made a bunny with it, you could see the paper layers underneath it. (It was good for practice.) So I searched for handmade paper. That was probably the hardest part about it. I trace the pattern on the back of the paper so that you won't see any pencil lines that might remain.
The next step is to take water with a paint brush (I bought an Aquadoodle refill pen set and use that so I don't risk spilling water on my scrap stuff.) and trace around the pencil lines. I run my water pen just outside the pencil line so I don't tear too much away, you can always tear more.
Once it's wet, you start tearing the edge away, leaving a fuzzy edge.
You can chalk the edges after they dry.
I used a scrapbook glue stick to put the pieces together. That was what worked best for me.
The nose was made on my Cricut using George on the sign feature set at one inch. I just stop the machine before it cuts out the sign part. I've done eyes that way before, but they were too big for this bear. For the eyes I used the hole that is punched when I use my eyelet punch.
I use my stylus to add the white paint and a scrapbook pen to add the black lines.
Hope that helps.

I love these tags and think they are spectacular tags. I like the peguin one vertical better too. I would like having a little room to journal on that one myself although your saying sound great also.

These are ADORABLE!! I want a bear!! :) Note to self: should have joined the biomes group!! :)

Those are super triple cute! I love them and can't wait to get one! :)

For my biome group, Jango and I were planning on making one of the tags to look like a giant leaf with a frog sitting on it. So that is an animal one too. :)

Looks like it'll be vertical for the penguins, and I'll try to leave space for a short journal comment. My friend only had the "Brrr" stamp, so that works out well. Thank you very much for all of your kind comments. And here I was, worried that they wouldn't be okay for the biome group. I'm glad you liked them. I've got something similar going on for my lions.

desert biome is done.

I am working on my elephan group - they are cut out...have to sew, ink and embellish.

Then I can package and get this baby in the mail.
