Yummy Weekend Review

My hubby and I just returned from a quick (but super!) weekend trip and we had two wonderful dining experiences:

On our first night, we went to Nine Dragons, which we had been to previously and really enjoyed after years of avoiding it because of an incorrect assumption that it would just be overpriced takeout. Nothing could be further from the truth, so we couldn't wait to go back and make up for lost time! We were seated immediately and had a very kind and polite server. We ordered the Sampler for Two which is a great value for all the food you get. They start you out with soup and a dim sum appetizer plate, and then we chose the honey sesame chicken and the pepper beef as entrees. Everything was delicious! The chicken was so moist and sweet, and we also really enjoyed the Shao Mai dim sum. I have no idea what it was, but it was wonderful! They finish the meal with red bean ice cream, which didn't sound very appetizing to me but it was tasty! Kind of like a vanilla bean flavor, but obviously red. Two thumbs way up for this one, and with our DDE card it seemed like a super value for all the food we got!

On the second night, we finally made it to Ohana. We have been going to Disney for years now and for whatever reason, never made it to Ohana. HUGE mistake!! It's a beautiful restaurant with great theming, the friendliest servers I have ever encountered, and I could see the castle from my table! Heaven! DH had the Lapu Lapu cocktail and I had one sip and felt tipsy. I had the Mai Tai which was yummy and more my speed! We loved the coconut bread which they start you off with, and then came this huge spinning tray of goodies! Everything - even the salad - was bursting with flavor and just delicious. The skewers of meat were awesome too. I had WAY too many shrimp but they just kept coming so I HAD to eat them! The pork was a little dry, and that is my only complaint. I would have stuck with the shrimp and beef regardless though. As if they weren't tasty enough on their own, they give you amazing dipping sauces too (the peanut sauce was my favorite)! And don't even get me started on the pineapple and caramel - yum! Amazing atmosphere, unique dining experience, and delicious food - Ohana may be our favorite Disney restaurant! And again, with the DDE card, it felt like a bargain for all the food we put away!

Sorry that got so long! I've made myself hungry again...

Glad to hear you guys had enjoyable meals. I'm happy to hear the good report on Nine Dragons. I've read mixed reviews on this one, but we have decided to try it on our upcoming trip.
We also planned on getting the meal for 2. I hope it is just as good for us.

How was the "noise" at O'hana that night?? Did you get swept up in any of the shenanigans that go on there???

Thanks for taking the time to write the reviews. It sounds like you had a great time. :)

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for posting.

what a great review.....we are trying ohana on our upcoming trip you made it sound great and it made me hungry too :)

thanks for the reviews! i can't wait to try ohana on our next trip. i'm glad you enjoyed both restaurants so much!!

Thanks for the reviews. I especially enjoyed reading your review of Nine Dragons. We don't get a lot of reviews of that restaurant, and the reviews we do see are often mixed. I'm glad to hear you had such a nice experience there! :)

DH and I will be going to Nine Dragons with DD12 and DD2. All of us have big appetites, and we'll probably be getting the DDE card. Which do you think will give us better value and the best amount of food- getting the Sampler for Two for DH and I, and kids meals for DDS (or one adult entree to share), or just get 3 adult entrees for the four of us to eat? Did you happen to notice if the adult entrees come with anything (like rice or noodles) and if they are still a lot of food?

We love Nine Dragons too! We're going back on our trip. Trying O'hana for the first time. Thanks for the reviews.

Thanks for the great review. We're going to be trying OHana's, with whole extended family of 11, for the first time in December.

We are doing 9 Dragons on Saturday and Ohana on Friday! Family of 4, we get the sampler for 2 with both getting sesame chicken, then another order of Kung Pao Chicken. I love the kung Pao, it used to be a selection on the sampler but was changed, the kids and DH like the sesame chicken. This works out better for our family than 2 kids meals. Oh yeah, extra egg rolls. With the DDE it's around $70 with the tip. Frann, they will bring more rice if you run out. There is a lot of food, we will usually have some left over.

I have never tried Nine Dragons, but your review has definitely tempted me. We always eat at O'hana - it is the best. My DH just loves the shrimp. And this time we are staying at the Poly, so I am doubly excited!!! :cool1:

Thanks for all the replies! I'm still a little shy about posting so I was very excited to see all the responses!

Uncleromulus - We were off to the side and away from the center of the room where the games occurred so we hardly noticed it. Overall, it was cute though - nothing really loud or disturbing.

frannn - I would sugget the sampler because of the appetizers, soup and dessert. It was plenty of food and it was fun to sample all the new and different flavors that we may not have tried otherwise. The entrees do come rice as well.
