Great...I think I'm getting the Disney "rash."

Yesterday, while dining at Via Napoli, I felt one spot on the side of my calf, up by my knee, start itching. I looked down and it looked like I might have scraped it. It was sort of hivey. The itching went away and I was left with some bumps. By the time I got home it was looking a bit better. There was a trace of it when I got up this morning.

I'm back at my house now resting before dinner. I felt my shin itching (same leg). Look down and saw that it was kind of hive-ish looking again. This is just so weird. It's just one leg.

I didn't use sunscreen in that area at all so not a reaction to that. I've never had this happen before.

Hmmm is it sun poisoning?

Ever notice how much hotter the ground feels at Epcot? I've read about a number of people getting rashes on thier legs there.

Google prickly heat. See if it looks like what you have.

Yep, sounds like it.

I've had it before. It usually clears up without doing anything after I head home.

I heard on the news yesterday here in Atlanta that someone contracted flesh-eating bacteria while at Epcot. Apparently, she had a bad blister and was wearing open toed shoes. Her feet were soaked with water from the tropical storm...that is what they are attributing it to. So sad and scary. :sad1: Hope she will be OK.

BTW, I didn't mean to imply anything, OP...I'm a hypochondriac myself and wasn't meaning to frighten you, just passing along the info since it popped in my head when I saw your post. Hope your rash gets better!

The "Disney Rash" ??? The only time I get a rash from Disney is when I watch the abc news....Do they have a thing called the Six-Flags rash? Or, is it just Disney?;)...just messin with ya.

I got the dreaded rash last May at WDW, when the temps were in the high 90s all week. My rash was confined to the bottoms of both legs, around the ankles and about 4 inches up. And boy did it ITCH; just as bad as having poison ivy. Nothing helped, Benadryl cream, Cortaid, nothing. It didn't go away until I got back home. That was one loooong week!

I got it a couple years ago. It seems to strike in the summer time when its really hot. i think it has something to do with the suns heat radiating off the black top. some people have sensitive skin and it causes a ithchy hivey rash. It goes away on its own. Mine hurt if I itched it!

I had completely forgotten that I had the same problem in March of 2011 until I read your post! The back of my legs didn't tan or burn during my Disney trip but rather I developed itchy rash-like bumps. Aloe helped a little but it was still uncomfortable in the sun. They went away after about a week and I've never had that issue since.

Hives need to be treated from the inside out. I would recommend Benadryl at night since it makes you sleep. I have severe allergic reactions and get hives on a regular basis. I never go anywhere without a bottle of Benadryl.

If concerned at all, it is always best to seek medical treatment.

come to think of it ...I have had that too. I usually wonder if its chiggers, then it goes away, and I forget about it.

Had you been in the sand anywhere? If they were small bumps, it could have been bites from sand fleas or no-seeums. We went to Poly beach one night after dinner to watch Wishes and then I developed what I thought was a horrible, itchy rash...I had little red bumps as did my mom. DH didn't have any and he never stepped off the sidewalk whereas my mom & I both kicked our flip flops off to dig our toes in the sand. When we got home, I counted over 50 bites just from my feet to knees. Nothing helped the itching at all. I finally read something online about covering your legs in towels soaked in apple cider vinegar. I was so miserable I figured why not and it actually worked (and smelled!). No more itchy, swollen, red, painful legs after that.

I just don't know what it is. When I typed the original post, it was flaring up in a new spot, apart from the one that came last night. Now it has settled back down. I also got some welts on the top of my knee on the opposite leg, but they have now settled down. I can see faint traces of them. Flared up at around 4:30 yesterday and today. SO weird.

I do have Benadryl so I will be taking some before bed.

I used to get this, but for some reason I haven't had it for many years. I never had an itch or any discomfort, just the weird rash. It went away a day or two after after I got out of the heat. :earsboy:

It IS Golfer's Vasculitis. I get it every time, when it's hot. So I guess we can call it Disney Vasculitis. My sister gets it too and when you are in Disney if you'll look around you'll see lots of people with it. It does seem to affect larger people worse.

It can be golfers vasculitis, but it may not be. I get the rash everytime, but mine is pmla-polymorphic light erruption. It is a mild sunlight allergy. I literally have stripe of rash, only where the sun hits the legs and feet. Where the sandals cover the feet, no rash. It's itchy, raised and I only get it at Disney. I never get much sunlight normally and WDW is a lot of sun. http://dermnetnz.org/reactions/pmle.html
I think people get both things at Disney, depending on the person and the circumstances.
