OK, I love a bargain and my son loves yu-gi-oh. So, when I went in to the local dollar store and saw cards there, how could I resist? They're quite likely fake. If they're not, then someone is very bad at translating from japanese. I can't say I'm hugely surprised, after all since when do you find good collector items at a dollar store? And it's not a big deal (to me) as my son is only 5 and the cards will be well abused by the time he gets done. But I feel sorry for the other kids parents who can't tell the difference between a 'good' set and a bad set.. I feel sorry for the kid too if they then try to join a league and play.

I used to play Magic the Gathering and I know that some of these cards can be quite valuable, so I sent a note off to konami/upper deck about it. They've asked me to send in a few of the cards to verify. I guess I'll find out soon enough if my guess is right.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. My son is 7 and plays with his friends. I ordered the Egyptian God Cards and the five piece Exodia off ebay. . .knowing it was fake. It doesn't matter at that age. I told my son, and some of his friend's parents had ordered their own kids a few fake cards, as well. They duel together, and they have fun and they don't care who makes them.

You know, I hated YuGi OH, too. . .oh, gosh, the movie was so bad, I had to go sit in the lobby while my son finished watching. . .and I think the whole show is a huge marketing ploy--more so than Pokemon, for instance.

But, believe it or not, my son's reading has improved (those descriptions on the cards use an extensive vocabulary), he has learned to win and lose duels gracefully, and I'm actually pretty impressed with how he and his friends know all the rules and play so maturely.

I don't think they're so bad anymore because of this, although I hate spending money on them. DS interest in buying them is just now starting to wane, which is also fine!

I hate these cards too, but my kids will play together for hours and hours without fighting. This is really the first thing that they have ever found to play with together that doesn't end in a huge fight, so I guess they can't be all bad.

I absolutely refused to do the Pokemon thing with the cards. My son plays the gameboy games but he never had any of the cards. Then Yu-Gi-Oh comes along and again I said I am not buying any. A friend of ours gave my son about 60 extra cards that her son had. So my husband started playing with him and since they didn't have enough cards for both to play my husband bought a starter pack.

I have to agree with the poster that said that it can be slightly educational. My son is adding and subtracting the points, reading the cards and it is something the he does with his dad. :)
I refused to go see the movie so it was a father/son outing.

We had two kids arrested for stealing Yu Gi Oh cards yesterday. Little brats.

Oh the infamous YU-GI-OH cards, or as i call them, BARGAINING tools :teeth:
