YSH or FCH

I don't usually like the threads where someone asks the rest of the DIS community where they should eat since no one can know someone else's tastes, but I guess that's essentially what I'm doing with this thread. I am trying to decide between Yachtsman Steakhouse and Fulton's Crab House for our last OOP meal in a couple of weeks. Which would you recommend? We've been to Fulton's twice and had mediocre to poor service only once. Heard great things about Yachtsman's 90% of the time with mixed to bad reviews the rest. My sister is leaving the choice up to me.... I hate having to be decisive! We had YSH originally and then dropped it to save on TS credits. If we pay OOP, that resolves that factor.

Thoughts/opinions/diatribes?

Ok, I just ate at these 2 restaurants this past week, and my vote goes for FCH. The food was amazing and the service was excellent! Our server's name was Wayne, and while the food was great, our experience there was enhanced by the wonderful service. The restaurant was absolutely packed, but you wouldn't have know it with the way our server, Wayne, attended to us the entire evening. He was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu, including wines. DBF and I have both worked in the restaurant service industry for a number of years and can appreciate that when a server is slammed, it is not always the easiest thing for them to come over and have a full conversation with you without ignoring the rest of their tables. We both had the Australian lobster tail with the king crab claws and it was amazing!

The YSH did have very good food, but the service was disappointing. It started off fine, but something must have happened with out entrees, whether they were burnt or dropped and had to be recooked, or whatever, but we sat for an hour after we had finished our appetizers with our server basically attending to all the tables around us and ignoring ours because something was messed up with our dinners. This really ruined the evening for us, because being in the business, if he had just come over and explained what had happened, we would have been fine. I had the filet here, and it was very good, but to me any filet that is cooked properly tastes the same.

I know you weren't asking for mini-reviews of each place, but if you are having trouble deciding, I thought I'd offer my pick. Whichever place you end up, I hope you have a great dinner!

No, this is a great response! Thanks very much. I already know what I'll have at either place - the USDA Prime New York Strip Steak with potatoes gratin and peppercorn brandy sauce at YSH or the Alaskan King Crab Claws with redskin potatoes (and blue crab cake appetizer) at Fulton's. Thanks for the helpful and detailed response. I'll ask for Wayne's section if possible if we go with Fulton's. Thanks again!

You can't go wrong with YSH. We've eaten there on numerous occasions (most recently just a couple of weeks ago) and never been disappointed.

I can't say the same for Fultons, but then again its been quite a while since we've eaten there. Why? Because when we did we found the place was just ok. Ok food, (bearly) ok service, prices high (but this is Disney). In short, there were so many other better choices, we haven't been back.

That's a great idea! Interestingly enough, that's still a conundrum for me. We will be at Epcot that day but are planning to go to DTD that evening as it's our last night and we want to go shopping. Not much help, huh?

I have never eaten at FCH but we make the YS a must on every trip. It is a very relaxing, delicious meal. I can honestly say that we have never had one thing to complain about there, only good things to say.
