Late last night I heard a loud thump coming from the bedrooms. Although it didn't sound so bad, in my heart I knew it was ominous--DS11 had thrown himself out of bed again with a seizure! Poor boy...he was in the throes of a full-bore grand mal seizure. We have emergency medication to use if it goes on too long, but his usually stop at about 4 minutes. Not this time. At 7 minutes I broke open the Valium and gave it to him. That usually calms things quickly. As I watched the minutes tick off he showed no sign of slowing down, so Kitt and I made haste for the ED. (we live 5 min from the ED)
Christian seized for about 25 minutes without stopping. Needless to say, he was limp as a rag when we got there and both of us were nigh-hysterical. DH took him back while I filled out paperwork-well, I tried to. I couldn't remember his birthdate and I filled it out all wrong--I thought i was going to burst into tears. Then DH came roaring up,as only a man on 40mg of Predinsone can do, and took over. Apparently he was pretty "assertive" in the back with the nurses so they gently suggested he go get me. Bless his heart, he couldn't remember Christian's medical history, his doctor, his meds, nothing. But it didn't keep him from pinning their ears back
Three hours, several blood tests and a CT scan later we were allowed to take him home with advice to increase his meds and get an EEG Friday. We came home around 3am with DS singing "The Star Spangled Banner" in the back seat. DH remarked how we always manage to go to the front of the line whenever we show up at the ED. Yeah, but I'd rather not, heh.
Today I kept DS home from camp. *He* has been fine, a little sleepy, but he was able to walk around the(air-conditioned)mall for awhile. I've just had the willies all day.

hugs from a mom of ds12 that also takes seizures glad that he is doing better today.
I've learned to just stay calm, talk to our daughter and make sure she is sitting up straight to make breathing easier. I was surprised, though during her last seizure. He found her that time, and was actually pretty calm for him. Of course that may be because she was at the end of it.
) but he wore himself out paddling around. Tomorrow I will do an in-service for the care-givers at his summer camp so they will know how to handle him if he does it there.
