we are driving in June and the car we plan on using is a minivan and we are trying to guess-ta-mate how much gas we will need.

I loved that you wrote all this down and kept track! I am such a numbers person and hate it sometimes (I'll subconsiously count towels as I'm folding them or crazy little things like that and it drives me nuts!). We kept track of our expenses driving across country from Oregon to Florida back in 1994 and I bring out this little journal from time to time to relive the trip. There's another reason in that it is sentimental to me since my husb died of a heart attack in the hotel room in Kissimmee and never got the chance to visit WDW but this little journal has his entries too so I always smile when I look at how we both loved to write down the small things (like "bought Hershey bar in gift shop at Tombstone...wonder if it's as old as the tombs cuz it was STALE!).

You have backed my oldest son's conclusion that it would cost so much less to drive down to WDW from VA than to fly for all of us but my theory is that we can arrive in 2 hours and would have to take 2 vehicles. But the money you spent on gas and food was so low! You really did a great job

we done this one time too ,found really cheap flights ,but we had over 24 hours to pack
Think we done more on that trip then any other

This is cool. I know my kids wish they had you guys as parents. At least for Spring Break week.

I am a teacher and many of my students said they wanted to have me as there mom! They thought it was amazing that I said it and then had us go.

love the data. i've sat with my calculator transfering it all in to pounds!!

I will keep adding data as I go. I kept track of tons of information that is really random too!

I really, really, really want to do this one day! When you posted on BL, I read back about 5 pages to see if you had mentioned a trip. It made me smile all day just thinking about it!

I do the same sort of cost analysis, and planning. Can't wait to hear how the rest goes!

Hello Lynn - I did not think I would ever do this either...never say never!

You trip sounds like it was amazing, and how spontaneous and adventurous of you and your husband to just up and go. I don't think I could do it. I'm secretly planning our trip for august and my son will wake up the day we leave and be surprised, but I can't imagine doing it all last minute. I can't wait to read more.

I think it is great you are planning the secret trip for your son...he will appreciate the surprise so much! I do not recommend doing it all last minute....but it did work out.

You are not really late...I have just started. We drove in a 1998 Ford Windstar that already had a fair amount of miles on it!

Yep...like I said...we took pictures of ourselves with our heads on the Superman cutout in the middle of the night at the gas station!

I think there are many of us who always say, "Lets go to Disney" and can never really do it. We were really lucky that this time we could actually just pick up and go!

DH is excited to hear this one! I read your first post aloud to him! It would take us about 24 hours to drive there. We are thinking of doing it in the future to save on plane fare but right now an almost 10 year old and a 5 1/2 year old in the car that long might cause a very bad situation! Maybe in a few years. They do both have their own DVD player and both will have DSi's so maybe in another year.
