You're going to Disneyworld AGAIN?

I absolutely CANNOT STAND getting this comment.

My boyfriend and I are 25 years old and we don't have kids. We were at a friend's housewarming this weekend and after I got to talking with some people, I let the news slip that we'd be going to Disney on Christmas morning.

Well, when the news got around "Geez, Greg and Erica are going to Disney AGAIN" all of his friends wouldn't let up on him, teasing him about vacationing in Disney and making sarcastic comments like "oh how cute". Then we got a MILLION remarks about "who would want to go to Disney when they don't even have kids??"

I tried to explain to the girls that we had a really great time when we were there in February for our first time as a couple. I said we couldn't wait to go back again in December for the decorations and the special events. I was really shocked when even my girlfriends started teasing me (in a friendly way)with "oh how magical!" It really got to be annoying after a while!

I agree with the others who say its jealousy.

We take about 4 vacations a year, and they aren't ALL to Disney. We try to go to a different place each time. Even when we go on other vacations we get comments like "geeez, how do you afford to go on vacation all the time??" Its none of their business how we afford it, but I just answer with something like "we save up".

We've been to WDW many times and did DL this past summer. I sometimes feel guilty 'cause, at the moment, our family is the only one that can afford to go. (though I do pray that one day they too will be able to take that trip---God-willing. :))

They don't say nasty comments to us but they don't ask about our trips anymore. (which hurts a bit but I understand why)

Gosh, if I ever win the lottery, I'm taking all of my nephews to WDW! :) (even if I don't win the lottery...mentally, I'm already planning how much it would cost to take everyone. Might take me awhile to be able to do it but I want to!)

For those that get nasty comments...just smile sweetly. Feel sorry for them 'cause obviously, they've never felt the "magic." :)

Lately we are going EVERY OTHER MONTH :teeth: ! I am loving it. Good times. I have really stopped getting the AGAIN????? questions. Now I get "when are you going again??" If anyone were to make a big deal and give me the "there are other places to visit" speech I would assume that they are jealous or just not my kinda people. How can anyone object to Disney World... really? :confused3

Now I have to admit that I feel a bit guilty about our good fortune. It is well deserved. DH works hard and is rewarded. DD5 and DS9 earn it by making good grades, treating others with respect and helping around the house. As for me, I love to volunteer at my kids school and I think I take pretty good care of my kids. ;) I know that people are probably assuming we are zajillionaires or something. NOT. We are just willing to spend the money to have a fantastic time with our kids in what we think is the most fantastic place in all of the world. The kids are only 5 and 9 afterall....and they grow so fast.

I'd love to see your page! I have a hard time finding disney lo's.

And yes, I do get that question alot. It's very annoying, and they are jealous!

I have changed it to Halloween stuff now, as Halloween is my most favorite holiday!!!

The only person I get this comment from is my Mother. I honestly believe she is unable to come to terms with the fact that we can afford to go and work hard for our money and deserve to go. My Mother did not even have that option at my age and I suspect some of it is envy. She did take me for my very first trip when I was 16 years old after my parents divorced and that I am eternally grateful for by the way because that was the beginning of my addiction! My Mother hates all the crowds walking and heat and cannot understand why anyone would waste their money going. You cannot and will not ever reason with people like this so don't even try. I just smile and say is their anything we can bring back for you while she gives me her classic blank stare.;)

My mom and dad take cruises all the time, and she tries to rub it in my face, but I really don't care what they do. I guess she thinks I am supposed to be jealous, but I really could care less...SOOOO she says the other day that she and dad were talking about taking all of us (DM, DF, DH, DD2, DD6, Sis, Her DH, her DS10 and DS 12, and Lil Sis) on a cruise for Christmas 2007. I told her that it would be expensive to take all of us on a cruise and I really did not think that DH would get on a boat and she said, "Well, leave him at home" Yah Like I am going to leave my DH at home for Christmas. I said well can we just have the $$$ for our portion and we will go to Disney later in the year? and WOOOOOOWWWWWW you would have thought I had just asked her to slit her throat...She gave me the most evil look and said, " I don't think so"!!!! :lmao:

So I hope they have a nice trip without us!!!

Sorry to hijack this thread..back on topic!!

Replies I've used:

"Yes, we're quite sick...." (with a sadistic smile)

"We've GOT to go to keep our Disney stock price increasing"

"Well....it is a lot of fun....and I do work here....."

"My wife and I just had that conversation and concluded we'd rather be us than you"

to nosy relatives:
"Sex at Disney is UN-BUH-LEVIABLE!!!" - That one shuts them up quickly!

Or do you get the, " Can you really afford to go there again?"

I hate that one!!!!! If I couldn't afford it I would not be going!!! Like it is anyone's business what I can and cannot afford anyway...ACCKKKK
You have struck a nerve in me with this thread.. :rotfl2:

My MIL is notorious for that one :furious: She would micromanage all of our finances if given the opportunity :rotfl2:

my mom on the other hand is always asking if we get tired of going to WDW. So everytime she asks I tell her, since you've never been there, do you want to go with us next time. She usually just him haws around after that.

Honey, all the time! One lady(co-worker) said to me,"don't ya'll ever go anywhere else?" My response: "Yes, we do but WDW is still our favorite!" Mine your own business, why do u care? We go to the beach every summer, etc. but nothing compares to our most magical place-WDW! Oh, the other secretary that works in my office has the nerve to tell me, "her daughter wouldn't like WDW!!!!!!!!!!! Have you ever heard of such? It makes me grow fangs! Her poor 11 yr dd will never get to go to WDW! "She would probably like to go to Seaworld because of the animals" WHATEVER!!!!!! It kills me. But let's just all enjoy going to our favorite place and remembering what we feel like while we are there. I'm going 5 times next yr!!! Can't wait!!
Hi
That secretary sounds like my Sister in Law. She's never been there. She said it's just for kids, her kids wouldn't like it and that they are too old for it. My nieces are 10 and 12, and they really want to go. So I promised them that I will take them next summer. My brother has been there, but goes along with whatever his wife says. So sad!! Anyway, I'm taking my nieces next August, along with my DD and DGD so it should be a lot of fun. Some people just don't get it!

Hahaha!! :rotfl2: Oh, I absolutely love this one!!

Oh and to the poster who said about the mother-in-law who would micro-manage your finances if she could...ugh!!! :furious: I'm not even married yet, and I'm already getting this from my boyfriends mother. I seriously can't stand it! The comments she makes and little snide marks...I don't know how I put up with her sometimes!

boy do I get you all , lol...lol.... the looks we get when we say we're going back to disney ...... ????????? why you've seen it ??? done it ??? why not europe ? somewhere on a beach ?? BECAUSEEEEEEE we love disney and just can't get enough :thumbsup2
Some might even comment like don't you have to think of later ( putting money aside ) well we do we're not stupid but we are now at a place in our lives children left home ( 20 & 25 years old ) so no money on school , clothes ,....... So we think of ourselves after 26 years of bringing up childrens and all of the expenses that brings we now feed our disney crazyness :lmao:
And to tell you the whole truth each trip we do I think I'll get tired of WDW and it will pass but get what no way it get worse & worse and too bad for those comments & responses we get , we love it .

I was the same way this past trip. I told myself I have been here twice and I can now say I have seen every nook and cranny fo the place so it will be a long time before I come back..Well this past weekend we went to Disney on Ice and I had this feeling come over me as soon as I saw Mickey and now I want to go back....We are going to the beach instead this summer and it is going to be sooooooo hard for me!!!!

Our family is totally obsessed with the Mouse. We would go every week if we could. It has even crossed my mind to homeschool my daughter so we could visit Dis more oftern.
We just have to ignore the rude comments, espeacilly from our family. That think we are insane. Oh wel! I get weird comments from friends when they ask us if we want to go to the beach or something, then our response is "Do you realize how much we could do at Disney for that money. Or, no I do not want to buy those shoes, that is worth a dinner at Ohana. I agree with those who think most people are jealous. Now that I have a few friends that are there now for fall break, I am getting calls with them apologizing for being so mean. At least now they undrstand.

I got that from my husband when I told him that we were going again next year (our third trip) . We always go and leave dad at home to look after the dog and the house (he is not a Disney person and goes on his own trips with the guys to hockey games and car races). What I told him was that there was nowhere else we could go that had as much to do for that price (sounded good - we just want to go to Disney - who cares about anywhere else!!!!) I then went on to remind him that he was the one that started the whole Disney trip thing anyway. He used to keep asking my son when Mom was going to take him to Disney World!!! Once my son and I started going ---we can't stop!!!! We love it!!!!!
 :cheer2: :woohoo:

Ha! Ha! This is sooooo funny. My brother just said this to me right before our trip in September(he and dsil have only been once-with us last year) and he called me last week and said, " we want to go back to Disney in April...do you want to go?"

Of course, my answer was that there was NO way I would go back to Disney again, he must be crazy!!!!

We'll go again and again and again. And yes, we have heard the rude comment "Again?". I just smile and tell them I'm in love with Mickey Mouse. No one has ever returned any comment after this one.

:goodvibes
