"You're going to Disney AGAIN??"

I didn't go to WDW until my honeymoon when I was 24. I didn't grow up a Disney person. I knew the characters and stuff but never saw any of the classic movies or anything. My wife convinced me to go there for the honeymoon and I am so glad she did. We stayed at the GF and the place was beautiful, the service was outstanding, etc...

I don't go many times a year like some. I don't decorate my house in Disney like some. But I still love it. I have read Walt's biography and it made me really appreciate the place that much more. (In fact, I reread it before each trip). If I am not there I am trying to figure out how to get there ASAP again. I am saving to get there. I am always checking for deals. Now I even train for my next race (which give me another chance to go FYI, :cool1:)

I just had my 3rd solo trip this month. I signed up for the Tower of Terror 10 Miler as motivation to get in shape. It worked.

My friends don't understand why I love it so much. My future ex-wife (yes, the one who convinced me to go) says I am obsessed. I don't care. Many people in this world have much more severe addictions that being "addicted" to Disney.

I don't like the beach so for me why wouldn't you love Disney? You go, they take care of everything from the minute you step onto Magical Express to the minute you go back to the airport. You can either relax at a resort or you can be non-stop your whole vacation if that's your preference. You can get just about any kind of food you want. You can see shows, fireworks, parades, and electrical parades on the water. You can drive a train through a hotel. You can improve your health and take up running. I just began running this year and have only done 3 races. The Disney race was not only the best, it was one of the most fun and best things I have ever done at WDW.

And, all of this is possible because of one guy who nobody believed in and just about everyone thought he was out of his mind with some of his ideas. It isn't just a vacation spot for me. It is a symbol of what a person can do when they believe in themselves and work toward their dreams. Is there another person who has lived that has touched people's lives in a positive way more than Walt Disney?

My mother thinks us doing Disney every year is a waste of money and calls us crazy and says that we're "too old" for it now, so I definitely feel you. However, I told her that when she gets her grandkids, I will take both her and my dad with me and see if they think they're "too old" for Disney! (:

Also, I see many more people in their mid-twenties venturing a trip to WDW now, so I wouldn't say that it's against the social norm. There are a few of my friends who don't think WDW is as "sophisticated" as a trip to Vegas or the like, but as somebody who goes to Vegas three or four times a year, I don't think there's really anything sophisticated about Vegas, besides the restaurants. And in that respect, WDW is sophisticated too! Jiko, Le Cellier, Yachtsman, etc. to name a few... Victoria & Albert's, especially!

We can sympathize!

We did not have our first trip until we were late 20s. We had two more trips with our kids, about every 5 years. For our 25th, we went just the two of us. We got so hooked on Disney!

We had another 5 year break while we got three kids through college and weddings. We just went to Aulani and our first trip to Disneyland to celebrate our 30th, figuring it would be a one time trip being so far and so expensive. My husband said last night, he would love to make it back to Aulani and Disneyland again. Who am I to disagree??

We have too many negative comments from friends. I am never sure how to respond.. On our next trip, we will just say we are heading to Florida (or Hawaii or CA) to enjoy some sunshine!

While in DL, we met a couple celebrating their 20th. So fun to visit with someone who gets it!

My boyfriend BEGGED to go to Disney for his 40th birthday. No party, no friend, just Mickey. So we spend 4 wonderful days wearing our mouse ears and eating mickey premium bars all by ourselves.
We don't have kids, but if we did, I think I would try to leave them home once in a while to experience Disney the "grown-up" way.

My son and two of his friends spent their college senior year spring break at WDW and had a great time.

My husband and I turned 40 this year, we have been going to WDW for the past 4 years in a row ( before that we had gone 3 other times just spaced out more). I'm already planning our 2015 visit, plus a visit to Disneyland to run the Star Wars Half Marathon. At first I didn't want to tell people we were going AGAIN even to my parents but now, I just don't care, it's our vacation and we can do what we want! We really love the Food and Wine Festival and now I have become obsessed with the runDisney events after running the TOT 10 miler and of course now I need to get the Coast to Coast medal which is why since I am doing the Star Wars Half at Disneyland I MUST go back to run the Wine and Dine Half in 2015. It's important to do things that makes you happy because in day to day life you sometimes do things that don't.

I ran the ToT 10 Miler this year as well. I am with you. It was AWESOME. It was my first runDisney event but I will become a regular after my divorce is final and I get some things straightened out. I have never been to DL but I will do a race out there as well and finally walk down the same Main St. Walt walked down as well. I love Disney but that race made me love it even more. It was one of the most fun things I have done in my life so now I need to do more. I know people think I am crazy but I don't care.

I just booked my second solo trip for next year. Went for the first time (solo) this september and told everyone I didn't know when I'd get another chance to go...... apparently it's September 2015......

Good stuff Godders...apart from my daughter not sure if I want to take anyone else...unless they don't mind doing Star Wars a dozen times and three on the trot Tower of Terror..I've already said the same as you and now thinking October 2015...but quietly ,to myself.

I don't generally get too many negative comments about going back, but they do happen. In the past 2 years or so I've been to Iceland, Tennessee, California, New Orleans, Chicago, Bermuda, and 2 trips to WDW. I have another trip to WDW in 2 weeks and another trip to Iceland in March, so I don't think people really notice how often I do go to Disney. This past March, my grandfather passed away and I was obviously pretty upset. After learning that he left all of the grandkids some money, I decided that the best thing to do with this money is to plan a Disney trip for myself and my best friend. I know that my grandpa would have approved of using the money this way and planning the trip with my best friend has helped me cope with the loss of my grandpa. I couldn't care less about comments about my going to Disney again, no matter what the circumstances, but if people knew what my circumstance is, there would probably be less negative comments.

I also completely agree that I don't see a trip to Disney as any different that going to the beach every year. So why should we have to deal with the comments when beach goers don't?

ok let me start off saying I'm 22 currently and I'm a huge walt disney world fan, i know so much about the parks and tips its embarrassing at times honestly. some could off handedly ask a question about something concerning the parks resorts or whatever and without even thinking I'm able to give a direct answer.
I learned at young age life is short (wasn't supposed to live much past age 11) and with all the doctors and treatments disney was my escape i see nothing wrong with that being your ideal vacation spot. i still am a child when i go and love meeting characters going on the rides seeing the shows and parades. i get a lot of grief from some ppl saying.. still?
I'm finally starting to let it rub off my shoulder. if you start caring about other peoples interest more than your own you'll have a bad trip no matter where you go.

like i said I'm still a huge disney child, and yeah get asked that question a lot. now i either say yeah, or don you wish i invited you along? lol

Absolutely. My co-workers always give me grief when I tell them I'm planning another trip. I don't get ragging on someone for something that makes them happy!

My brother can be very mean-spirited and belittling about what I like and do. From Harry Potter, Pokemon to frequent trips to Colorado. I am just at a stage in my life where spending money on travel means spending money in a way that I know I am going to enjoy myself. So traveling to Orlando for Disney and Universal makes the most sense to get away from my life and have an escape. I cannot be bothered with what other people think anymore. I was too wrapped up in what others thought of me in my younger years and all it did was depress me.

My life, my choices, my happiness. Either you are supportive or get out of the way.

I'm 48 and my hubby is 50. Our girls are 18 and 14. We have been to Disney World 5 times (I went twice as a kid too).
We haven't been in a year and are all going through Disney-withdrawl right now. (Well, my DH isn't, but he would gladly go again - he loves it, just not QUITE as much as me and my 2 DDs!)
We went to Vegas this summer as a family. Even if it was just me and DH, I would MUCH rather go to Disney.
In fact, I am planning on DH and myself going in 2016 for our 25th anniversary - a couple's trip! And I am SO excited about that. DDs are already complaining that we would dare to go without them! LOL

Must be about my 10th trip - this upcoming February. I went twice before I was married, six times with my husband and kids, first time last year with just the hubby, and now our second time just the 2 of us.

CANNOT WAIT!!

The only people who really bug me about it are the two ladies I work with. Neither one of them is a fan to start with, and they absolutely cannot wrap their head around what the attraction is.

I'm at the point now where I intentionally talk about my trip and how much we both are looking forward to it. I enjoy their annoyance at my decision.

Crazy, huh?

Funny thing is, right now my kids (23 and 24) are in a stage where they want no part of WDW. That's fine with us. I'm sure once they're married and have kids of their own, they'll be back on the Disney Bandwagon with us. At least I hope so.

We went to WDW for our 25th, Aulani and Disneyland for our 30th!! So much fun!

I'm 48 and DH is 53 and we LOVE Disney! We always get, "Disney, AGAIN?!?!" when we tell his brother and his wife we are going but we don't care. We are big kids at heart and we don't ask them to fund our trip so, we go. :cool1: The person who turned us on to Disney is 65 and she and her husband went all the time together until he passed so she goes with us every other trip. Do what you want and can pay for because you are only a big kid once!!

What I tell people is: Whoever pays the piper calls the music. :rockband: :charac2: :mic: :music: If your family wants you to go on a vacation and they are willing to pay for it, go and have a great time on them. If you are paying for the trip you go where and when you choose to go.
This is exactly how I think. I pay, I say. Anyone else who objects gets to vote with their wallet for my trip. Actually, that would be nice since I would get to visit other places in addition to Disney, lol. But that never happens, so Disney or any other vacation of my choice is where I will go. But I really think they're jealous they can't go.

I just came back from our first trip to Disney World and I completely fell in love. I had been once as a child but didn't remember much. Going back made all theses memories come back. I'm 22 and my boyfriend is 26. We both had a great time, but many of our friends were a little weirded out by our destination. They didn't understand why a young couple without children would go there.

Now all I think about is going back... My boyfriend isn't too sure. He had a great time, but he wants to go somewhere else before we go back. But I just can't wait!! ;) I keep watching youtube videos and pinning stuff on pinterest... I even went on the disney weddings website... If my boyfriend knew he would freak out !! haha!

I'm pretty sure my family will judge me for wanting to go back, they were already laughing when I told them we dressed up for the Halloween party. But I don't care what they think, we had the time of our lives! And the Halloween party was the best part of it. So I say, do what you want. Life's too short to worry about theses things, and it's your own money you're spending!

We've been getting the rolling eyes and "Disney again" for years now.
It's there loss for those that don't like it as much.

DH and I are going Friday for 30th wedding anniversary, can't wait!!
He's like a big kid there!
