You're a National Treasure - Nov. Exercise Challenge

80 min run tonight brings me up to 525/1400. Thankfully that was my last crucial long run before our family does the turkey trot next week. Just short runs from here on out. I don't know why but the treadmill is defeating me this month. But alas, the snow and ice has hit us (and the early darkness) and better safe than sorry I say.

Great job everyone! I can't wait to join the purple people eaters! Hopefully it will be before the end of this week. I'm having serious doubts about reaching my goal because I ended up missing a big run in the beginning if the month from illness (and poof! There went 130 min). But I will keep trying my best not to let the team down.

cold and wet lunch break run - but sometimes it just feels good to move and get off campus and run.

24 minutes = 526/1000

I love seeing everyone supporting each other on this thread. I swear, we have some of the best motivators and cheerleaders around. We could go on the road!

904/1400

Run/walk this afternoon. I was SURE I was 4 miles in and checked my RunKeeper and it was 3.01. Boy was I tired. Inside of my lower legs hurt lately - not the top as in shins, but inside near the ankles. Not sure what's up with that, but I've got a half in 13 days and I expect to be walking most of it. Just haven't trained as I should have this Fall, and no run longer than 6 mi, so I'll run/walk until I get to the point where I can only walk, then finish that way.

Keep up the great effort, y'all. Some months we've only gotten to 50% as a group at the end of the month, but THIS TEAM is already there in the middle of the month - nice job!

874/1500

Finally was able to enter something after 4 big fat goose egg days! :rotfl2: I had strep throat. Haven't had that in decades. It was not fun. Penicillin is a wonderful thing and even though I still have a sore throat, it is getting better every day. :goodvibes

You guys are so amazing! You've been rockin' this while I've been dying on the couch! :cheer2:

30 minutes walking (mostly to/from school, but I'll take it)

I wanted to do more, but didn't want to go out in the rain. Oh well, 30 minutes is certainly a lot better than nothing, so I guess I should just be happy with what I did.

Puts me at ...

737/1200

I'm hoping to get a walk/run in tomorrow, but since the temperature will be below 30 when I wake up, it'll be hard.

glss1/2fll - Strep throat is no fun, but I'm glad you're getting better. I hope you're back to 100% soon.

Bedtime for me (well, past bedtime, I'm just waiting for the bathroom to become available so that I can take out my contacts). Have a great night/day everyone!

no color changes today - but I know there are some coming, really soon. I can feel it.

lisah0711 - I'm glad you all survived the stomach bug and that all systems are a "go" for Friday!

figment - how long is the Turkey Trot? And you may have started off the month a bit slower than intended, but lately you've been on fire! Really!

2TxAgs - How did I forget that you have a half coming up? Just run safe and be smart, ok? Especially if you have an injury. Take good care of you, ok?

glss1/2fll - just reading your status made my throat hurt. I'm sorry, strep throat is beyond miserable. I'm glad you're feeling better!

SarahDisney - 30 minutes is WAY better than nothing!!

So: group question. Sometimes, we're a lot better at pointing out our flaws then we are our gifts. So my question to you is, "what's at least one thing that you feel you're really good at?" It can be anything at all.

Remember, we're all unique and in our own way, we're all treasures.

Good luck on your half. Usually when my ankles/calves start to hurt there its because I need to switch to a new pair of shoes or bc I've been ramping up mileage too fast. If u have another pair of your same shoes- definitely try that on your next run.

Oh yuck! :( I had strep last march and it is no fun. Pixie dust to you to a quick recovery!

It's an 8k so... 5 miles -ish. I convinced my sister in law to do it too (my DH and her DH are already runners) and I'm so proud of her for sticking it out and training. She hates running but it's a fun race that I've always wanted to do (buffalo has one of the largest and oldest) and I just hope it won't be as cold as it is this morning.... Brrrr!

Update...so on Sunday we had a wonderful brunch out for our anniversary. Then later that evening I felt worse, and my temperature was 99.6. I decided to take Monday off and go to the doctor. He said that what I have is viral and to stay home today too, so here I am at home, sick on my 13th anniversary. Temperature is 99.4 this morning. I have to go in to work tomorrow...we are meeting with the producer of our documentary at 4:00 and I have to be there for that.

The doctor also said no working out for a week. That means no more minutes adding to my total until the final week of November. I am still determined to make my goal but I have close to 300 minutes to go, and I'm not sure I'll make it. Bummer. But I need to take care of myself. The doctor said if I work out too soon, then I run the risk of a relapse. That is definitely not what I want, especially since I am making thanksgiving at my house next week. My favorite holiday and something nice to look forward to!

The good thing is that I'm so bored being home by myself, that I got a lot of my Hanukkah shopping done online yesterday and today! I'm actually almost done which feels great.

I'm really good at screwing things up ... (I get the feeling that wasn't the answer you're looking for).
In all seriousness ... I'm funny. Not everyone acknowledges it, but I have a great sense of humor, and I know not to take things too seriously.

Take care of yourself - your health is what's most important!
And I haven't even thought about Hanukkah shopping ... I still have a month, right? Last year because it was so early I was very on top of it ... this year not as much.

75 minute walk/run for me today ... in the 30 degree cold (and it was windy). I think it was about 3 miles, but my GPS wasn't working so well (I somehow accidentally ended up on the park's wifi, which doesn't work unless you pay for it, so that messed up my GPS).

Less than 100 minutes to gray!

Top Oh the Mornin' to Ya - my fellow Treasures!

How is everyone today?

No color changes to report today.

I know that I hit a big ole zero minutes yesterday. Instead I went out to lunch with a friend and had a good talk that was good for my soul and had a veggie sandwich (not bad for the body) and in the evening I got the spur of the moment notion to get my hair cut.

While none of those things were workout related, although getting my locks lobbed off always raises my heartbeat, I think it's important to just take time to do something for ourselves. I hadn't gotten my hair cut in well over a year. why? well, partly indecision, but mostly because whenever I felt like I had the extra funds to pamper myself someone in my house would "need" something and then - woosh - there goes my "pamper mama" money. Somehow I end up feeling like 'I'm not worth it' and the kids need x,y,z or whatever.

Today - my gift to myself will be taking the time to exercise. It may be some stretches and yoga, it may be a sweat session on the cycle at the gym or it may be picking heavy things up and then putting them back down. but whatever I do ....whatever WE do today... do it as a gift to yourself.

Hmm...something I'm good at...

I'm good at working with children. All of my patience is with children. This is why I will not become a school administrator, because I would rather work with the students all the time rather than be in charge of adults who are set in their ways and will not listen. True, children often do not listen to us either, but my belief is that children are young and testing the waters, and still have time to mature and blossom into successful adults who have overcome many obstacles and were determined to achieve success, and develop fine work ethic. I have seen it many times over the years. Everything is a learning process for them, whether in the classroom, during the production I oversee, during other productions in which I'm involved, and in social and family life. My own children are continuously learning valuable lessons both in school and at home, and my teenaged students are learning more each day as well. I am very lucky because as an Italian teacher, I teach a program that is very small (very few Italian teachers in a school of over 4,000 students), so many times I am privileged to teach the same students for 3 or 4 years in a row, and I get to see them grow a lot over that time. It is a very rewarding experience for which I am very grateful.

Today I'm feeling much better. No fever since last night. Well, 98.8 anyway, but that's no fever! Back to work today and meetings after school for the fun stuff. No exercise until Monday though, kind of bummed about that but keeping in mind what the doctor said...I don't want a relapse!

40 more minutes for me today - all running. 605/1400.... I'm getting closer and closer to that 50% mark!

bangzoom6877 - glad you are starting to feel better. it's awful to be sick this time of year with so much going on. However, forced rest time is sometimes just what we need.

I realized I never answered the question from yesterday. I guess what I'm good at is getting things done. It's not always pretty, it's not always pleasant, but I'm just one of those people who somehow manages to just get whatever needs to be done, done no matter how little time or notice I have. Which means I should have no excuse for not getting to my goal for this challenge but that's a little different. I usually try to make a really big goal so that when I don't quite reach it, I'm still way above where I would have been had I set a smaller one. Anyhow - tis the season for "getting things done" for me - I've got 90% of the gifts purchased, holiday cards in hand ready to be addressed on the long car trip home from thanksgiving visit, and the lights are already outside on the trees. I haven't started the inside decorating yet, or any of my baking but I am feeling less stressed this holiday season than any ever before. I guess that's good since we're leaving on the 18th on a surprise visit to WDW! :dance3: And all of those WDW plans are done - FP+, ADRs, etc.:thumbsup2 Now if I could just get us packed for thanksgiving while somehow doing 795 minutes of exercising without getting  or :headache: or :crazy2:....

Good day to all of you!

2TxAgs, I hope you can work out your soreness enough to enjoy your race.
Glad to see where most everyone is getting back on track. I agree a race on the calendar always helps to keep me motivated
Monday 30 min walk, 45 min elliptical
Tuesday 30 min walk
Today 72 min run (without a walk break) didn't think I'd ever get there. Now if I could only repeat that in a real race. ;)

My respect for those who are running in the snow. We've dropped into the. 20's and I've moved my runs to later in the day. Can't quite make myself get out in the frozen.

Good morning all!

I only got in 25 mintues yesterday.

And our furnace is broken. DH tried to fix it, but it's been about 57 degrees in our house since last night and we have no hot water. I know it could be much worse, it's just a stinker and I hate not knowing how much it's going to cost to fix. Bluck.

No color changes today. But I must say that I've loved reading your answers to what you're good at. I always like it when we learn a bit more about each other.

figment1990 - I've said it before and I'll say it again, you're on fire lately and I know you'll hit that 50% soon. I can totally picture you as someone who gets things done.

bangzoom6877 - glad you're feeling a bit better and I'm glad that there are people like you who enjoy working with kiddos. It's an important thing for sure.

Mrs AR - :thumbsup2 way to go on that 72 minute run with no walking! An impressive accomplishment for sure.

Keep up the good work and when all else fails:

:scratchin

I was thinking that I'd add a bit of extra inspiration and motivation.

We started out this month HOT! and we've slowed down a bit (at least by the numbers).

I'd love to see us turn into great-grey-go-getters by Monday but it's going to take a big effort.

Currently, as a team, we are 2,880 minutes away from that goal. That may seem like a lot but every minute counts.

COME On Team - I know we can take a bit chunk out of that number if we work together and report our minutes!

I will be back on the band wagon this Monday! Feeling better every day and I definitely want to keep it that way. I'm really looking forward to working out again...I miss it. Frustrating not being able to do it!

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Crazy busy week here so not putting too many minutes on the board
30 minutes walking which brings me to 670/1000. Will be adding lots of walking and running minutes starting tomorrow at WDW. :cool2:

2TxAgs, hope the ankle is feeling better soon. pixiedust: for a great half soon!

glss1/2fll, hope that you are feeing better! :flower3:

I always have a hard time with these questions. :rotfl: I am really friendly and I can carry on a conversation with anyone. :mic:

Figment1990, kudos for getting out in the cold -- it would quite a feat to run a race in Buffalo right now. ;)

bangzoom6877, hope that you are feeling better now, too! :flower3:

hmack, sorry about the furnace. :flower3: Thanks so much for inspiring us all and keeping us moving! :thanks:

30 minutes closer to our goal!

That brings us to 2,850!

Who's next to contribute?

30 minutes closer to our goal!

Who's next to contribute?

ME! I've been meaning to post all day and keep forgetting.

70 minute walk/run

Puts the team at 2,780 to go (if my math is right).

Puts me at ... 882/1200

If I can get in 18 minutes early tomorrow, I'll hit my personal gray before the weekend starts (I think)!

So, who's contributing next?
