Help me out on this....Arlo Guthrie is how far back I recall from elementary school

That is the most unfamiliar performer that the NFL has ever selected. The popularity of the artist is largely within the Latino demographic and isn’t as known in other demos.

Even I know that he's a Puerto Rican singer, and I'm waaaay out of his demographic in multiple ways.

That said every time there isn't a country-esque or high profile pop person

seem to be trying to gravitate towards younger people over time as well as capturing nostalgia but for a different generation like several years ago bringing in Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, etc.

Just because you may not like the rap genre doesn’t make it not music. He’s a great performer and not just a rapper. I would say is music is more dance/rap fusion as his songs have great dancing beats. I think he will do a great job as the halftime act. Loved his SNL performance where they paid tribute to the famous image of the men on sitting on a beam having lunch high in the air while building a skyscraper. I couldn’t find the full performance this is a short clip to give you an idea.

For those saying they dont like people just wanting old acts. When they chose Usher that was an insanely smart move and I consider him an "old" act. It was all the talk for weeks after and the young crowd absolutely loved how their parents were 1000% all in dancing and singing to Usher.

The issue is (at least from what I have seen) that people want acts that are truly no longer relevant. Usher is still putting out good danceable music. When was the last time Metallica, Sheila E, Will Smith (seriously??) and others like that have put out an album? There are still 'older' performers who are putting out some good stuff, but getting more big-name today artists like Bad Bunny will draw more eyes, especially for those who really don't watch football.

I don’t mind Bad Bunny and I know he’s popular at the moment, but I love when they mix it up a bit. So for me, I’d love to see Bad Bunny as the headliner with special guests Metallica, Snoop and Dolly Parton. Something for everyone.

I do alwyas love when they do an act that crosses genres and generations - it's always fun to see that kind of interaction.

I think a lot of older people who consider the current generation's music "noise" don't realize that those artists were inspired by the artists that the older fans love. Musicians - at least good ones - have an insatiable appetite for listening to other music, and they love a lot of the classic stuff just as much as those who deride the current stuff. The actual artists get that.

Bands or acts from the 70s-80s is what I was referencing.

Usher isn't who I would consider an old act by any means at this point in time.

It'd be like using your example the young crowd loving how their grandparents were all dancing

True but at the same time every artist does things their own way. When Pitbull came to our area (Iggy Azalea was the opening act along with someone else I forget) in 2021 (I think it was then or 2022 can't exactly remember) he made a HUGE point to say leave your politics at the door, leave what stuff you got at the door because tonight we're just going to have fun, together, dance, get moving and just live your life but leave the politics out of it. Whether he's still doing that I don't know but it was a central part of his concert that evening to get everyone together regardless and to leave that stuff outside the door and to enjoy the evening as people who just love music

But many artists and IMO hip hop and rap are often a venue for it what someone feels is often weaved into their lyrics.

For what it's worth, Dolly isn't feeling well right now - she just postponed a number of shows that she had scheduled in Vegas.

That is correct. For a tour that makes sense. However, for the SB it is not the same concerns. It is not a tour, not the same safety concerns. That, to me, does not mean "big talk, no action", as MIgrandma put it. Which is why I was asking her if she knew why.

No artist is going to change their music or views to not reflect who they are ... I don't think that is what he meant. And I would say in all of the music world your lyrics and music are a reflection of you and your beliefs.

POV: I think what he meant was don't wear your party/political/person shirts, hats etc. Don't sneak in a sign or flag. Do not speak or shout to others about your beliefs. Most certainly do not be verbal towards others who you don't like for whatever your reason. If you are going to his concert, just enjoy the music, dance and have a good time. BUT his words are still his words, and if you don't like them or him don't bring your politics in the door, stay home.

He is not overtly political but most certainly has public views, public actions and clear on the issues he supports. He does speak of a unified world ~ but he also supports issues that folks are divided on.
