That is the most unfamiliar performer that the NFL has ever selected. The popularity of the artist is largely within the Latino demographic and isn’t as known in other demos. I bet most of the audience that doesn’t speak Spanish (which much of Bad Bunny’s product is sung in) will likely switch to the Puppy Bowl… watch those Animal Planet ratings rise x100…Bad Bunny!
He's been on SNL multiple times (hilarious skit with Pedro), he just did Happy Gilmore 2, etcThat is the most unfamiliar performer that the NFL has ever selected. I definitely think this is one of the reasons he was picked. Most marketers are trying to capture the attention of the 16-30 year olds to get them hooked on their products. Once you hit middle age and beyond unless they are trying to market a product expressly for your demographic you are no longer the target audience. He's pretty popular with youth too and of course the planners are always trying to lure them.
I get tired of people who only want 'older' acts and diss the newer ones, saying it's all trash (didn't our parents say the same thing?). I mean, I am an older person and I like my 80s/90s music but I also listen to quite a bit of new stuff. I know who Bad Bunny is, he's got some catchy tunes that have made their way to my playlist along with Chappell Roan, Shaboozey and others. Just because I am not in the demographic they are going for doesn't mean I can't enjoy it.That said every time there isn't a country-esque or high profile pop person or some band from the 70s or maybe 80s for the Super Bowl there are people who are like "who's that?", people complain if it's R&B or Hip Hip or Rap saying they hate it, some may have known Shakira and J Lo but still complained about their performance (not just what they did but who they are talking about how they aren't the best for the half time show). The list could go on.
I don't think they are the most unfamiliar performer ever, the past half time threads show just how little people know of people outside of a genre they don't listen to including some very high profile people.

Back when The Backstreet Boys were 'the thing' (yeah I'm datin' myself), one of the nightly entertainment shows did a story on a 90-something Grandma who absolutely adored them. One of the things she said was 'You are never too old to listen to new music'. I have followed that advice.
The Puppy Bowl actually airs earlier in the day. That is the most unfamiliar performer that the NFL has ever selected. I also get tired of people saying they want only the older acts. My mother-in-law and step-father-in-law are an example of that although they don't complain to the level I've heard elsewhere. I definately remember them asking "who is this what is this awful stuff, etc" when The Weeknd was a performer. Mother-in-law liked Justin Timberlake (post NSYNC) but shook her head at a rap artist because of the type of music.I get tired of people who only want 'older' acts and diss the newer ones, saying it's all trash (didn't our parents say the same thing?).
