Your significant other is off on a trip, do you do anything different?

I am a bachelor for the week as my wife is off on a girls trip.

I’m planning to catch up on a few shows she’s never really been into, visit a couple of my favorite restaurants that we usually skip since nothing on the menu appeals to her, and tackle some house projects I’ve put off, mostly because I’d rather spend that time with her.

What do you do when your spouse if off on a trip without you?

Same. I'm usually the one traveling.

When I do get the chance to be home alone unsupervised, I get food that he doesn't like (Asian, mostly). I also venture out to places I've wanted to visit that he doesn't, but usually it's staying home watching movies/shows he doesn't really care about.

Probably same for DH when I travel.

My DH used to have a couple school/training sessions for his job (crop insurance adjuster) and I would stock up on my favorite snack/junk foods, watch scary movies into the early morning hours, get take out meals, and sleep late in the mornings.

He retired from that job a few years ago, but now I’m the one who takes occasional solo trips just for fun.🙂

I loved when my husband used to travel…but he has been retired for a couple of years, I retired a couple of months ago.

My husband was gone “ALL DAY” last Friday, doing a car show with his brothers. I was thrilled to be in the house all by myself!

When my husband has to travel for work, I stop cooking dinners for myself and son. We eat things my husband cannot due to his gastric issues. Pizza? yes! Jersey Mikes? Yes! Street tacos? Yes! Taco Bell? Yes!
Same - DH is diabetic, so I indulge in all the carbs (and randomly whenever I get hungry, not necessarily at set mealtimes.)

I tackle the kind of projects that I either need to be able to leave in a huge mess for a bit, or that I hate to be interrupted in the middle of,

...and I watch a lot of Hallmark movies.

I follow my normal routine when DH is away, except the house is quieter. We tend not to eat a lot of the same foods most of the time, so I continue to cook whatever I like. I go to work, as usual, and hang out with our son who lives at home. Things stay fairly routine.

Same as everyone else, no compromising on shows (Shining Vale season 2 is in queue) and meals (sushi, probably a bag of ships made like cocktail and Gorton's fish sticks) is nice in small doses but I miss him quickly and usually need a nightlight, not a fan of sleeping alone. DH travels a decent amount, less than when we were younger but still around once a month so I sort of have a familiar routine.

It's been so long since I've been blessed with that opportunity. The last time it was "outdoor movie night" w/cat and dog, Purple Rain lol. It was super nice had all the tiki torches and gas fire pit going. That was probably like 2022 since I have had that opportunity to have more than one night alone at home. Part of the time he was gone I had to go to Ohio for a graduation party so I missed a night of home partying :rotfl2:

About 10 years ago when DH started going on scuba trips I started going to Disney and/or Universal solo. He goes about 4 times a year now, sometimes I visit family who spend the winter in Florida. I am doing a solo European river cruise this fall, first time venturing out of the country alone.

It's changed over the years and now hubby rarely goes out of town without me since we own a RV and me and the dog just tag along and hang out at the RV park while he is a work. Back before the RV, I would go eat a places he didn't like, not turn on the TV except to listen to music and do a good house cleaning so it would stay clean for however long he was gone. On the rare occasions now he goes somewhere overnight without me, it's usually just one night so not much opportunity to do a lot. I do still do a good house clean (how can one man make such a mess?). I'll watch UTube either without my headphones or put it on the TV when he isn't home but still don't watch much of anything else on the TV. To be fair, we don't watch much TV when he is home. I think we go 2 or 3 weeks if not months, without turning it on except maybe to listen to music. I go to WDW solo at least 3 times a year for at least 5 nights so he has more alone time at home then I do. I know he cooks things I don't like him to cook when I'm home (fried shrimp comes to mind) but otherwise I think he pretty much does the same things he does when I am home. He works from home and I'm retired so I think we are both pretty happy to get some alone time when the opportunity arises.

I’m an introvert living in a small home with DH & DS and a dog and I have a very demanding, people-heavy job and several regular social and volunteer commitments. I literally dream of having time alone. It doesn’t even matter what I do - the peace and freedom is in knowing that for just a little while, nobody needs or wants anything from me. Heaven! :cloud9:

Not much different goes on when either my husband or I travel for work, but since we both travel at different times 2 times a month it's almost a normal thing for us. I will say one of our dogs loves it as he gets the other side of the bed when one of us is gone:flower:

DH used to travel pretty regularly for work, but has since stopped. I'd love my time alone. No routine. I could just cook dinner whenever I felt like it, if I wasn't hungry I would just have a bowl of cereal. If I woke up at 4am, I'd just get up and start my day, now I feel bad doing that with DH still sleeping so if I get up, it's just to go putz on my iPad where when he's gone I'd usually work out. Also, when he was gone, I wouldn't have to pickup after him. Not that he's overly messy, just little things that he leaves sitting out.

Only has happened twice in 43 years of marriage. I was allowed to use the washer and dryer. Normally that is off limits to me, unless I have detailed written instructions from my wife. My wife was in the midwest at her Grandfather's funeral, and then a few years later, he Aunt's funeral. I did laundry every day. With school uniforms needed for both kids, sports clothing and my clothing I had a load a day to do. Kids told my wife I made them wear the same uniform every day! No, but they had the option of wearing them as they were clean. Mind you they had 5 sets of identical school uniforms so who would know? My wife does laundry one day a week, Sunday.
At that point of our lives, I already did all the cooking, as I did for 18 years. My wife worked a normal 9 to 6 day shift and I worked overnights, so I was home to fix dinner and have it on the table when she got home at 6:30 pm
