Just curious about everyone's prom experience! I was talking with my DCousin as she's debating over whether to go to prom or not.. her tickets are $80 and she really doesn't enjoy school dances (they've certainly changed!).

Feel free to share any stories, or pics (especially prom goers from the 80s!! ::yes:: :thumbsup2 )

poll coming!

I went to 3 proms in the 80s, and none of them were actually my senior prom. But they were all lots of fun.

I never went to my prom. At the time, I didn't care. Most of the time now, I don't care. Sometimes I get sad when I see all the girls getting dressed up and think I missed out on something, but then I remember that there really wasn't anyone I wanted to go with, so it would have been kind of a bummer anyway. So I had to put other down, some days I'm OK with not going and some days I regret not going.

I went to 3 proms.. I loved it was a great time! I think the cost wayyyy back then was about 55$ per couple. Included dinner and drinks.

I went to 4 proms (2 of mine, 2 of DH's) in the 80's. You asked for pics...here you go....and yes there's a hoop skirt under that red southern style dress!

I went to two proms, jr and sr year. Can't say I regret going but it certainly wasn't what it was cracked up to be! I had a rough time in highschool.

I put other because I didn't really regret going, but I also didn't really enjoy it.

I was very sick and had an alright time but nothing spectacular.

I went to 4 proms...

Went to the junior prom....really bad! Senior prom we all skipped and went to NYC instead, saw a play and went to dinner.

I had a great time at my senior prom. I went with a guy that was just a friend and we had a blast. The best part was spending a great night with my closest friends. I didn't dance much, but it sure was fun to gossip about everybody! :rotfl2:

Great pics!! I love the first picture and your dress! I wish I had grown up (or at least remember growing up!) in the 80s.. and don't ask me why, I have no idea.. :goodvibes

We called the senior dance the Ball...

I went to my Junior Prom, a friend's Senior Ball, then my Senior Ball. I'm glad I went to them, but they weren't the things you saw in 80s movies, even though it was during the 80s. Then again, detention at my school wasn't like what Breakfast Club showed either, so you really can't trust movies to show reality. :)

At $80 per person I'd have a hard time doing that...especially since it might not be anything special. For less than that I'm OK saying "go just so you went, but don't expect much", but at that cost PLUS the cost of a dress it gets harder to think of it like that.

TaraPA, those are great pictures. I'm truly in love with your red dress, hoop skirt and all.

I went to junior and senior prom and I had a blast both times. My date and I went with a big bunch of friends and really enjoyed ourselves. :)

I went to my prom but my mom spent WAY too much money on it. She had no say in her own proms (my dad's and then hers-my dad's mom was a bit of a fashion-forward person and took over and my mom is way too shy to speak up). My mom let me do whatever I wanted so I went crazy. She made my dad pay for it, too. :rotfl:

I had a great dress and great hair and great jewelry, etc.

I would go. And then I would make sure the date was a stand-up guy. My date was a loser and refused to dance with me and tried to well, tried to do what a lot of guys do on prom night (he didn't win that battle and he broke up with me that morning! LOSER!)

Oh geez.. he sounded like a keeper. :sad2:

Glad he lost the battle! :thumbsup2

Keep the prom opinions coming, I'm going to show this thread to DCousin. Hopefully this will help her make up her mind!

I said other because I'm not really sure how to answer. I did not want to go to my prom. My best friend had died in a car accident a couple of months before the prom. Her death pushed me into a depression. I think I realized how fragile life was, etc. Anyway, I was in no mood for the prom but my Mom and friends really pressured me into going. I asked a friends brother to go with me. The brother was also my cousins best friend, so I had pressure from all sides to go to this prom.

Anyway, I wouldn't say that I had a good time at my prom at all. I was pretty miserable and I'm sure I was a horrible date:sad2: Several years later, my prom date died in a motorcycle accident. I was told that his family still had our prom pictures...so maybe it was a good thing that we went to the prom. It left his family with nice memories, instead of the tragic death. He was running from the police at the time of his accident.

I went to both my Junior and Senior Prom. I had a great time. I have the pictures but cannot scan them in because my date who was my boyfriend at the time is now serving some time in jail for attempted murder of his wife. :sad2: Guess he wasn't such a great date after all. :confused3

I put other. I didn't go to mine, didn't care about it then and still don't now.

OMG someone else better start posting some pics from the 80's on here - I don't want to be the only one!!!!
