Your old love letters

I recently threw out a few old letters that my husband wrote me. I'm not getting any younger and trying to start tidying up what I'll leave behind. They were a little on the racy (not really but embarrassing non the less) side and I don't want my kids reading them! I cherished them for many years, but it was time to let them go.

I don't have any myself. I used to have some stored in a shoebox at my parents' house way back when. I am pretty certain that box got tossed when they were on a cleaning spree... which is fine I don't need the reminders of exes.

I don't have any from my DH... it seems like everything was always sent through text and I am sure those have cycled out of the cloud or phone storage by now. I do hang on to cards, they are in a drawer somewhere.

Absolutely keep! DH and I have all ours from each other. It's nice to have and re-read sometimes.

I was just thinking about this … DH has a shoebox full of letters I wrote him during the summers. Nothing racy because my Mom harped on my sibling and I that anything we wrote on paper had the potential to be read by others, but they are so cringey.

A blogger I used to follow was downsizing after her kids moved out and she and her DH sat down and read all their letters one last time and then shredded them so their kids didn’t have to deal with them later. I kind of like that idea.

I still have ours for 56 years!. Some are from our senior year in high school, but most are from when hubby was in basic training and then training to be a medic.

We are married 54 years this year. I still have them. We starting dating when I was 17. When I read them now you can tell they were written by a teenager. Perhaps someday we will toss them out. We have no children and I don't know who will be cleaning out our house when we go.

I had some from my college boyfriend that he wrote over the summers. We split in 1985, I finally tossed them a few years ago when we moved. He was the only ex I have always carried a small torch for.

I may have a few cards DH gave me, but we had no reason to write letters.

I have nothing from my first marriage. Done, gone, and good riddance.

My wife and I have saved all of our letters and cards to each other.

All the love letters I have from my DH are in email, so, yes, I have them.

Letters from exes? No way. Although I do have a stack of letters from an ex-friend and I've been hesitant to chuck them. Maybe now is the time.
