Your Kids Doing the Soulja Boy Dance

I'd like to know if he isn't the writer or singer of the song.. How the heck does he KNOW what the meaning to the lyrics are? He is 1 person with 1 opinion.

Hahahah...his opinion? These are common terms in some circles and this is what they are intended to mean in most people's opinions. It's not like the artist is being discreet about it.

That being said, this guy is whacky. I could barely watch this and it's not because it's explicit but because he's super annoying.

I don't understand why people would let their kids listen to a song that repeats the word "ho" over and over again and has "ho" in the title. I don't know how people can say it doesn't matter. Some things are just not appropriate for certain ages. You can hardly compare this to Olivia Newton John, in my opinion.

I always love how people go nuts about lyrics but songs like Outkast's "Hey Ya" fly under the radar for yeeeeeeeears :lmao:

He talks too much. I wish he'd get to the point. I didn't even watch the whole thing, I was more annoyed by him.

Hmmm...I'd only heard the first minute of the song, and that was radio edited to "Oh". I didn't bother with the You Tube guy (the 'net is super slow here today)...I just got curious and googled "Soulja Boy meaning."

Who really cares what the lyrics mean? People enjoy it or they don't for the Beat not for the opinionated meaning of the lyrics..

Now, THAT'S a scary thought. :scared1: Lyrics matter. Think: Schoolhouse Rock for the evidence.

I wanted to type in to him in comments that he needs to stop drinking and smoking.....every time he took a puff on his cigarette I wanted to reach in and grab in and smash it on the floor...

so back to the song. I like the song but didn't not know what the lyrics meant. I will not make a fuss about it with my kids but will let them know that the lyrics are not what they think.

They will say that they like the beat and that is what makes them want to dance to it. soon enough this song will pass and another to take it's place.

The song is not on the radio that much anymore at all and they don't sing it anymore either. If I had known what it meant when it first came out than I would have stopped them from listening to it.

I can remember a lot of songs in my generation that were really bad for back than....The Rolling Stones, Zeppelin and so many songs were all about sex and drugs and booze.....shoot they were all for the most part drug attics and stoned when they were on TV or at concerts.

Old news New song out by Soulja Boy is Souja Girl. I like the beats. It makes get up in dance.

Well, I for one didn't find this "old news", I didn't know, and thank you OP for posting.

One of the most irritating things on message boards is all that love to put someone down by posting that everyone already knows something. Not everyone does just because YOU do, obviously the OP didn't. If you already knew, then skip on along to the next thread, no need to put the poster down. :confused3

I know there were some songs with questionable lyrics when I was young. To be honest, I personally, at age 10, 11, 12, heck till about age 17, felt uncomfortable with them myself because of the lyrics, and chose myself to not listen. I listen to them NOW, but I am an adult. (Though I will admit, I could not listen to that whole youtube video, a few minutes was enough for me). I would seriously hope my child felt the same. I don't want my child's innocence robbed, I want him to be able to be a child.

Before I get blasted as a helicopter parent, I do let my son listen to and watch some stuff others may not let their children of the same age watch, but it is stuff I know I can use as a teaching tool with discussion. But if there is really no redeeming quality, believe me, he knows darn well what "This is not appropriate for you" means. Anything in the first place that uses the word "Ho" (except for hohoho by Santa of course  ) is "inappropriate" in our home.

My child is 6, and yeah, they think the same things are cool that the 12 year olds do because many kids have older siblings, and those that don't learn through their friends. I think parents should care what their children are hearing, because they probably "know" a lot more on various subjects than you think, and much of it is either misunderstood or glamourized because they really aren't old enough to understand it all. Yeah, the lyrics to this song may seem to us that they would be obscure to a child, but believe me, there is some child out there somewhere who knows and spreads the word. This is not what I want my child thinking about.

I've never heard the song before so I had to click on it.. I got the spongebob version lol and how in the world can you understand what he's saying?? Not exaclty my type of music! to make matters worse.. its stuck in my head.. make it stop!

Some of you may know that I DJ. This song can't be played by me... Why? I don't own it, and NEVER will. Stopping this nonsense is sort of a crusade of mine. In fact, if you were to visit my website, it specifically states that I play no songs with explicit lyrics.

My dd doesn't even know what the lyrics mean, she just loves the dance, which, btw, she's has successfully taught me to to do, lol! It cracks her up when I do it with her, but my dh watches us and just shakes his head in shame.

This isn't the first song with questionable/suggestive lyrics and it won't be the last.:confused3

Ain't that the truth! I just found out that song "She Bop" by Cyndi Lauper, (circa 1984) is about ************. I had no idea.:lmao:

Hey! But it's got a great beat and I like to dance to it.

I hardly think that She Bop ( and you are correct in what it is about ) is anywhere near close to what is meant in this song. How WOMEN can think this is OK, I will never get, especially if they let their 8 year olds listen to it.

I saw a video of TEACHERS doing the dance at an elementary school, and all I could do was cringe... It's on youtube. Nice.

I didn't watch the video posted in the OP but I am familiar with the song. I think the lyrics are inappropriate for my children, and this is not an album I would purchase for them.

Fortunately, my 7 year old is much more interested in playing with toys than listening to top 40 music so it's not an issue. My 12 yo daughter does have CDs, etc - but I would never purchase or allow her to purchase music with such explicit and degrading lyrics.

It may be happening everywhere but it's not happening in my house. And amazingly enough - my daughter doesn't feel tragically deprived because she doesn't listen to this crap.

Did I say that She Bop was anywhere close to this song? No. I don't think so. And I never said I think the song was OK.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who are happy with that, and others who wouldn't be. If I hired a DJ, I'd expect him/her to play what I requested.

Would you play Between the Sheets by the Isley Brothers? What about Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing?

I assume anything by Clarence Carter or Betty Wright are pretty much out of the question.:rotfl2:
