Before we bought our own property up north, we had several favorite places to camp.
1) Hartwick Pines, near Grayling, Michigan, just off 1-75: It's a state park but they've made big improvements, and there are lots of beautiful walking trails, lakes, etc.
2) Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan: The Aune Osborne campground. The freighters going through the locks come up very close to the campground, it's fun to see those big ships close like that.
Anywhere in the upper peninsula of Michigan!
