I'm running out of things to make now that the weather's turned cold. We get into a big soup-stew-potato rut in the winter, partly because I'm bad about falling back on my repertoire, and partly because my boyfriend is happy eating the same thing everyday anyhow!

What are your favorite fall/winter/cold weather recipes?

My family really likes meatloaf w/ mashed potatoes and gravy in the winter.
A roasted chicken is always nice.
Pot roast is nice warm and hearty.
Chili (or does that count as a soup/stew?)
Tuna casserole is a favorite (believe it or not) also Tuna melts- take the big english muffins, toasted lightly, stick some tuna on them (with or without mayo) throw on a tomato slice and a thick slice of cheddar, broil for a few minutes- my husband eats about 5 of these, the kids will each eat one.
Taco pizza
Chicken Cordon Blue and Alfredo
sausage and peppers..
Im getting hungry. lol

Chili (usually with chicken)
Chicken Divan
Shredded Turkey in broth
Shredded Beef in broth
Meatloaf
Lasagna
Baked Mac & Cheese
Tater Tot Hot Dish (hamburger, peas, cream of celery soup & tater tots)
Chimichangas
Cured Pork Loin (from Boma)
Honey Sesame Pork Tenderloin

Open-faced roast beef sandwiches w/gravy and mashed potatoes!

Soup and sandwiches are a staple around here (warm and filling).

Crock pot Chilli - which can make a few meals....
Over rice, with hot dogs or hamburgers, on loaded baked potatoes (I think everyone falls into this routine in the winter).

Pot pies (with left over turkey from Thanksgiving or use the stew for filling).

Spinach pie with soup or salad.

Scrambled egg burritos... we rarely eat breakfast, so it's nice to have it for dinner.

OK - now I need to go raid the fridge!

We like spaghetti, meatloaf, lasagne, enchiladas, pot pie, chicken and dumplings, etc.
If you get in a rut with soups and stews, try different types of breads and rolls with it or a variety of cheese.
You could also try soup in a bread bowl for a new treat.

Although my family enjoys many of the heartier items already noted the thing that really turns the whole family on is in the soup, etc. category.

On Saturday or Sunday (the only day I'd be home to do this) when I make either a home made soup (veggie, veggie beef, chicken, turkey) or chili and let it simmer all day while a loaf of bread bakes in the bread maker everyone is drooling.

Although one other that I tried on Sunday in the crockpot was a big hit. It is called Beef Stifado (I think I spelled that right), a Greek flavored beef dish. I don't have my recipe here but I think I can remember it.

Brown trimmed stew beef cut into about 1" cubes in olive oil (I made about 1 1/2 pounds and it easily fed 4). Transfer to crock pot when browned.

Mix 1 Tbs. brown sugar to the drippings and add one large onion chopped or about the same amount of pearl onions. Cook until glazed and transfer to crockpot.

To pan used for browning add 1/2 cup dry red wine (cooking wine works), 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup red wine vinegar, and 3 Tbs. tomato paste. Mix and bring to a boil.

Meanwhile, place a couple Tbs pickling spice and 4-5 whole cloves in a cheescloth bag (piece tied up with string worked) and place in the middle of the meat mixture in the crockpot.

When the wine & vinegar liquid mixture comes to a boil pour it over the mixture in the crockpot.

Cook on low for 7-8 hours. During the last half hour or so add, a bag of baby peas to the crockpot. Serve over rice, rice pilaf or mashed potatoes.

YUMMY!
