Your Favorite Cover Song?

For my 80s friend.... Siouxsie and the Banshees. A cover of Kraftwerk's original which they called "extraordinary" From the album Through The Looking Glass which was all covers.

Special Bonus. A song that Iggy Pop admitted was better than his.

And lastly, a special Exclusive Encore presentation. A remake of a familiar Disney song.

If Souxsie were Kaa, that kid wouldn't have had a chance.

Seen quite a bit of Johhny Cash in this thread. But I think this one is his best cover. Originally by Neil Diamond. If the voice doing backing vocals sounds familiar, it's Tom Petty.

He was way past his prime when he made it but managed to put out one of his best.

I Love Rock n roll by Joan jett & the Blackhearts is a classic. I heard a cover and said to my daughter that that was pretty good, she told me it was Britney Spears. Never cared for Spears, so it really surprised me.

Cover songs are fun, one of my favorites is:

Antigone Rising was fun back in the day, they rocked some Queen here

Here are a couple more of my favorite cover songs. Sorry to all you younger ones out there, but this old guy is still stuck in his 70s, 80s, and some of the 90s music. :goodvibes

This one by Sinead O'Connor was originally written by Prince. There are a lot of songs that Prince wrote and performed that were great, and there were so many that other artists did and were impressive. I was not a fan of Connor on the stage or off, she was a big turn-off for me. But I did love Nothing Compares to You.

Another comes from Led Zeppelin. I started getting into them as a young teen after they had already been around for a few years. I remember taking a public bus in January 1978 to go and buy Led Zeppelin IV. This album is most famous for producing their most iconic song, Stairway to Heaven. The problem was we ended up getting hit by perhaps the worst snowstorm to ever hit Cleveland Ohio. The great blizzard of 1978 (Google it) I along with several others was stuck on that bus for 16 hours and was rescued by the Ohio National Guard. Phone lines were down, and before cell phones were in use (imagine that), there was no way to reach my parents. All I can say is I wore the vinyl record out, I loved it so much.

From that album comes the song, When the Levy Breaks. Originally a blues song that was written in 1929. Imagine a hard rock band playing a blues song almost 50 years old.

Poor Poor Pitiful Me. Originally sung by Warren Zevon, then covered by Linda Rondstadt, then Terri Clark. Great song!

Terri Clark

Linda Rondstadt

The Viscount of Vidalia’s all-time favorite cover, although he’s too embarrassed to admit it. :teeth:

I'll take Crimes against Humanity covers for $1,000 Alex.

Aha, a little humor from our 587 time champ onion. A reminder to the audience the category is cover songs even William Shatner would laugh at.

I love Aretha Franklin’s version; it’s my favorite, but this cover is very beautiful.

I am putting together a playlist of originals & covers to play on Groundhog Day. Funny how a movie made groundhog day take on a completely different idea.

I especially like covers that are completely different style than the original.

Somebody That I Used To Know - Three Days Grace

Original by Gotye

I have to add one more. This band and their sound are completely out of my taste in genre; in fact, you could say I can't stand them. But this version of The Sound of Silence left me, well... In silence. I know, that's cheesy. LOL

This times a million. Without a doubt, the best cover I’ve ever heard. It stunned me. It overwhelmed me.
