Your Embarrassing Park Moments

That reminded me of my worst Disney moment.

One very hot summer day we were leaving the Magic Kingdom on the ferry. It was about 6pm and we were headed to the airport. I had my 2-3 year old daughter on my shoulders when she erupted. We had just eaten at Tony's Town Square and 98.6 degree spaghetti was raining down on top of my head, dripping onto my shoulders, and cascading down my entire front to my shoes.

The very crowded ferry suddenly found room for me and my daughter to be nearly alone. My wife, who can not deal with vomit, was totally gone.

We made it back to the rental car, got some dirty but much cleaner clothes out of the suitcase, and cleaned up the best we could there in the parking lot. We used some of the dirty clothes as towels and stuffed all of the clothes back into the suitcase. I wonder what the poor baggage handlers thought of our bags?

My daughter and I stunk, stunk, stunk, for the ride to the car rental return, the wait at the airport, the flight home, and the ride home from the airport. We got lots of dirty looks from people.

The shower at home never felt so good!
That's crazy. Sorry that happened

Since were telling such stories....

When I was a kid, we were at Epcot and I had knocked down this huge strawberry milkshake. We were then in line for the just-opened and very popular Captain EO. We were next to enter the doors (yes, it had a wait out the doors back then), when the heat brought that strawberry shake knocking. Boom, suddenly I threw up a big, pink splatter on the sidewalk right in front of the doors! As my sister tells it, the entire line took one giant step to the left in unison, though that may be embellishment. The CM's brought me inside, got me cool water, and let me sit for a bit. We ended up waiting an extra show cycle until I felt better.

Milk on a hot summer day!

I was blown away when Disney first announced the Milk Stand at Galaxy's Edge but then realized it was non dairy so not exactly milk.

Yeah, but that's also why the blue and green milks at SWGE are kinda gross.

I have had a few good ones over the years. Probably the most recent was last December at Disneyland. I had sat near Small World for the parade. It had just ended and I was going to stand up from the ground and realized my foot was slightly asleep. I gave it a couple good kicks on the ground and started to stand up, but it was still way more asleep than I realized and I face planted back to the ground. Several guests and cast members came running over to see if I was ok and to help me to my feet. The only thing or hurt or bruised was my ego from that one.

I like how you say only the ego is hurt. LOL

It was true. The guests and cast members who watched me do fall over all had these wide eyes and shocked looks. I am not sure any believed I really was ok physically - just a hit on my ego. I am starting to feel my age more (despite looking young) so I felt this one a lot.

I've got two...on my first trip to WDW as kids w/ my brothers my grandmother bought us these puppet like things that you could loop the legs around your waist & carry them - kinda like carrying a kid on your waist. Bought from some place on main street....anyway she pays for them - my brothers each got one as well - and we leave the store. She heads to the ladies room, we all wait outside for her. Well one of the security got it in their mind I stole it. I think I was 10 or 11 years old? Anyhow, they grab me by the arm and try to take it from me and what not, then the manager comes out and makes a big stink about me stealing it. I mean we are talking a real scene. I'm crying saying "no my grandmother bought it for me!" but they don't believe me. People are staring. Then my grandmother comes out and let's just say she rained hell down on them for accusing me of stealing when I didn't and making me cry over it.

The family still talks about the time I got "caught shoplifting in WDW!"

Second story:

About 20 years ago we are walking back from Epcot to Beach Club. Our boys were about 7 & 9 years old then. We pass two large gentlemen, both with beards holding hands. I'm thinking - oh geez, boys keep your mouths shut. No they aren't homophobic. They were just naive and we lived in a rural area with no nearby gay relatives. They just hadn't been exposed to two men holding hands. So we walk by each other, my husband and I say good afternoon to them and they respond in kind. Then our eldest son just stopped and looked at them and said "hey...those guys...."...well it was enough to get the two gentlemen's attention. They were sooo gracious. They stopped turned around and started engaging our boys in conversation. Just normal hi, are you having a good time kinda conversation. Turns out they were headed to wherever it was we have just come from for dinner and we talked for a bit and they went on their way and we went on ours. Kids were quiet for a minute then said "how come those two guys had beards and were holding hands?" We just said because sometimes two guys like each other a lot and hold hands. They said "oh", thought about it for a minute and they started running towards the beach area to chase the ducks. Husband and I let out a huge sign of relief. Those two gentlemen were classy. We still talk about those two guys on occasion.

Mostly embarrassing only to me as being dumb after all these years.

At the time, after maybe 20 visits there (maybe 30 or more now), and most solo, I was staying at the Swan resort. I was over in Epcot Mexico/Norway area to watch Illuminations. Illuminations started at 9 PM. The show takes about 15 minutes. So over about 9:15 or so. In my mind, that was park closing, 9:15. I started a very slow, leisurely walk back to the Friendship boat dock near International Gateway. I was enjoying listening the 'old' Tapestry of Nations exit music and taking lots of nice pictures along the way. I knew I would be at the dock by about 10:10, a full 5 minutes before the last boat would head out, one hour after park closing.

As I was walking up to the dock, I saw a Friendship boat pulling away, heading up the short canal into Crescent Lake. I rhetorically asked the several CM's still there at the dock, 'guess the last boat will be here soon?'. They said, 'no, that's the last boat there, sailing away.' I said that I thought the last boat left an hour after park closing. They said, 'yes, park closed at 9.' Not sure if I did a palm to forehead but it sure was a palm to forehead moment.

It was a HOT night, no breeze, it was dark, I was solo. And I was tired, having spent a full day in a couple parks with several DIS folks over the full day and earlier evening. It was before I had my knee replacement, so before 2014. I probably should have had the replacement at least 5 years earlier. It was a long, long walk back to the Swan.
