Your Disney Pet Peeves

I've been reading a bunch of those scholarly books that talk about the cultural implications of everything Disney, blah blah etc. One author said that when she interviewed CMs they seemed to often complain about rude Brazilians, and she figured that there was no way that all these annoying people were really from Brazil - the CMs must have just started using this as a way to lump together the bad apples. So I find it very interesting to see this run of posts about Brazilians behaving badly. Maybe it really is true!

I absolutely agree!!! I had an incident the other day at the Magic Kingdom with someone who was walking around smoking. A CM asked them to put out their cigarettes and they refused. So I spoke up. It is the teacher in me, I don't know why I do these things, I just do. Well the woman decided to use LOTS of foul language at me in front of kids that my husband had to tell her to knock it off. All of this in front of my 2 year old son.

How hard is it to follow directions?

I don't know why Disney just doesn't automatically eject someone from the parks like that-especially when they start using foul language in front of toddlers. Does Disney not promote themselves as a "family" park? At the end of the day I think I would have gone to City Hall and write out a formal complaint.

My pet peeve: people taking flash photos in dark rides. Me and hubby were blinded by a jerk (woman) taking pictures of herself and a boyfriend/friend, etc. She actually had the nerve to argue with us on the ride. I swear I will never set foot in Mexico ever because of this woman, and I am now very hardline on immigration issues. Disney really should have an automatic ejection policy in their parks, and ways to enforce all of their policies.

~ When people treat CM's poorly for just doing their job. ex: At Les Chefs last year these two women went nuts on one of the CM because they couldn't get a table. It wasn't the CM's fault! Why should she be verbally abused because of the restaurant she WORKS for, not owns does not have a table for you.
~ I agree with the sitting on the rails. I don't care how cute you think you are (girls mostly) or tired you are...I don't need to view of you tush in my face!
~ Children fighting in line and parents doing NOTHING. EX: at BTRR last year these 2 siblings were fighting and I mean fighting! Hitting, punching, pinching, and kicking the works! The parents didn't nothing because the father was on the phone and it took a stranger to tell them to "Please stop making a scene and at least move with the line kids" to stop them.
~ The amount of parties it was nearly impossible to plan getting into the MK at night because there were so many MVMCP's planned back to back. not cool Disney not cool
~ ohhh and lastly people in the room next to you sometimes. The family next to us....... the kid got up at 3am screaming (i have a child I understand, really!). However the father then proceeded to lead a party of playing in the room and bouncing from bed to bed to make the kids happy!! Unbelievable, yes? Happiest place on earth doesn't give you the right to not let me sleep!

I would suppose that is it for me.

Not to be rude, but why do teachers always have to tell you they're teachers in the first minute of talking to them??????

people standing/sitting way too close whilst talking on their cell phones. OK, if you have to yell your conversation into your phone for the world to hear.....get better service (can you hear me now???????!!!!!!) This has happened to us on the resort busses and in line a number of times and it irks the crap out of me!!!

My pet peeve centers around people who think the rules are for everyone else, but not for him/herself. This is a problem almost everywhere today-not just WDW.

There are a lot of things that people do at Disney that I would call pet peeves, but I try to ignore them as much as I can. However, I really can't stand when people just stop and sit in the middle of the row at an attraction... especially when they're one of the first groups in the room. It's not so bad if they'll stand up and let you get by them so you can sit on the other side of the row but there are people who will stay seated and then look at you like you're a jerk for trying to squeeze by them.

This is a very good observation. It irritates me too when folks can't follow simple directions like "walk to the end of the row."

Mine is people that complain about other people who aren't touring commando. So, they stopped in front of you to look at something. Isn't that why they put all the neat little touches into WDW in the first place? Lighten up!

Not being from the USA I find your comment upsetting. Canadians are not known for pushing and shoving in line.

I'm an American, with a lot of family in south Florida. When visiting my family in Florida in the wintertime, I do see a lot of Canadians. My observation: while the vast majority of English speaking Canadians are mannerly, pleasant, and possess a wonderful sense of humor .... there is a certain portion of your population (easily identified with license plates that read "Je Me Souviens") that -- in my observations - have occasionally raised the bar on rude.

I try not to let the annoying habits of other people bug me but I do draw the line at people who use their flash when taking photos during a dark ride. It totally ruins the magic for everyone else. Last trip I had to ride Pirates three times before I finally got to enjoy the ride without some idiot taking pictures.

My pet peeve is when a pregnant woman (with or w/o small kids) gets on the bus and no one gives up their seat for her. I realize people are tired and the preggo mama could wait for another bus but wouldn't it just be the right thing to do? It seems like such a small way of thinking about other people. I have fortunately never been to Disney pregnant but I can imagine it's uncomfortable and difficult to try to balance yourself on a moving bus.

Must agree with the peeve about front row parade and firework viewing crashers.

Another - the people sitting an extra long time after eating at the counter service restaurants when many people with trays of food are wandering around looking for a table. I know how good it feels to be able to sit after all the park touring, but be considerate of the next family who would like to feed their kids (and have a brief rest too!).

I have to ride an ECV (scooter) in the parks due to medical conditions. What most people don't understand is that these things don't come equipped with brakes. Your only choice is to let go of the "forward" lever & hope you don't have too much momentum (like on downward inclines) and hit the person who stopped in front of you! It's very nerve wracking.

Another problem for people on ECVs: People who climb over/jump over/step on/run around & stop on a dime in front of you. This happens a few dozen times a day.

I've also had incidents where children try to use my scooter as a jungle gym, however, I usually don't blame them - where are their parents? I find myself asking that question alot these days - not just at WDW.

There is a longer list of pet peeves for people with "invisible" disabilities - too many to name. The worst has to be people who make hateful comments (and occasionally physically assault you) about riding a scooter when it's not necessary. Trust me, if it weren't necessary, I'd gladly walk with all its freedoms instead of riding around having a prime view of people's backsides & damp armpits!

This is easy. People who talk, take pictures (flash), or video (w/lighting) on attractions when you are NOT supposed to. I honestly thought I was in a lightning storm on POTC.

We have used a flash on POTC. We have looked and listened every time we have ridden the ride, now where is there a message posted or spoken that we could find or hear that indicated no flash photography.

I also find it rather disturbing the number of comments made about "people from other countries". I live in the USA and have found plenty of rude people here too. Why do you thing American's have the reputation that they have in the rest of the world?

It is both on a sign AND stated overhead that there is no flash photogrphy allowed on Pirates. You must have just missed it. I puroposely looked and listed during my last trip, and they do tell you and there is a sign.

That's a great one! Other than that, just rude guests in general--pushing, not following the rules, things like that. When someone cuts a line, smokes where they're not supposed to, things like that we just say "Hhmmm.. they must be special".

It doesn't matter how close to me you stand, it won't make the line move any faster.

Not sure if they still do it, but it always used to drive me nuts to hear the announcements (in the pre-FP days this was) "please move forward and fill in all available space to keep your wait time to an absolute minimum".

I'm sure I'm not the only one who realizes this, but wait time is (basically) based only on the number of people in front of you, not the physical distance between you and the entrance.

My pet peeve is actually against Disney itself.
When you go to the world showcase in Epcot, you go to Mexico and can buy Mexico items. The same with France, Britian, Italy etc, etc.

You go to the American Pavillion and you can't buy one stinking thing that is made in America
Come on Disney, you mean to tell me in this entire Country you can't find one Mom & pop shop that makes Tee shirts, wood works any thing.
