'The Young and the Restless'' Real-Life Wedding
Cane (Daniel Goddard) and Lily (Christel Khalil) were married on "The Young and the Restless," and Lily's recent diagnosis of ovarian cancer will, hopefully, bring the young couple closer together. Cancer also forged a strong bond between real-life couple Charlene Lee and Willie Williams. This weekend, the two were married in a big Las Vegas bash thanks to "Y&R."
Charlene and Willie, a NYPD officer, first met in the summer of 1993 and had a casual relationship. But life intervened, and they both moved on. In 2005, Charlene called Willie and the two met for dinner. Love blossomed. But on Nov. 5, 2008, Willie's birthday, Charlene was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her fight for her life made them acknowledge that their love was the forever kind. They became engaged on Valentine's Day this year.
This past Sunday, the couple took their vows at The Signature at the MGM Grand Las Vegas, and cast members from "The Young and the Restless" were present, because the couple was crowned the winners of the "Wedding of a Lifetime" contest, sponsored by the No. 1 daytime drama series, after successfully beating out more than 25,000 other couples who also submitted videos for the public to vote on.
"In his video, Willie says it is hard as a man because you want to take care of your wife, and as a police officer, you want to protect the people. He talked about how distressing it was that he couldn't do both. He was very uplifting. You can see they have a real affinity for each other," Goddard tells ET.
Representing the cast in Las Vegas were Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren Fenmore) and Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin), but Goddard says it should have been him, because he could actually have married them!
"I offered to marry them, because I got ordained for my brother's wedding. I got ordained in the Universal Church of Enlightenment," he explains.
The package the couple received was worth about $20,000 and included round-trip coach airfare to Las Vegas, hotel accommodations in the luxurious and romantic suites of The Signature at MGM Grand, transportation to/from the Las Vegas airport in MGM Grand limousines, $1,000 spending money, a wedding ceremony, pampering and much more.
Goddard, who married his wife Rachael in Australia, says he thinks Las Vegas weddings are fun. In fact, he and his wife did a renewal ceremony in Sin City.
"Every year Rachael and I renew our vows," he says. "We do different sorts of ceremonies. The first year we went to Vegas and had an Elvis impersonator do it, the second year we went to Santa Fe and had a Native American ceremony. We have been to a Catholic monastery and had a nun do it, and we had an Amish one."
