Youch! Lone Ranger review...

I haven't seen the film, but I saw a preview that was followed by some sort of ad for Utah saying that you could visit and see the settings for the movie. I had to laugh as it was filmed in Santa Fe, NM!

While the studio for the movie was in Santa Fe, the movie was filmed at a total of 16 different locations in New Mexico.

They also shot scenes in Canyon de Chelley in Arizona, and Monument Valley on the Utah/Arizona border. So technically, part of the movie was filmed in Utah.

Nope! You are both wrong.

Showing all 15 filming locations
Monument Valley, Utah, USA
Abiquiu, New Mexico, USA
Hurley, New Mexico, USA
Creede, Colorado, USA

(Tonto flash back)

They filmed it right here. My DH's uncle worked on it some, too. I'm definitely going to see it! :)

Eta: according to the list above, some of it. Lol. Abiquiu is nearby.

LOVED IT! the whole movie was great but the last 30minutes is outstanding. The theater was packed today and there was a standing ovation at the end. We went with two decidedly NOT Johnny Depp fans and they loved it too. We are definitely going to see it again!

My son worked as an extra for some of the filming in Moab, Utah. He saw it last night and liked it. He saw himself a couple times too.

I took my boys this morning. I liked it. My boys liked it. I loved Johnny Depp:lovestruc

The critics and reviewers must be smoking crack. Or they envy the Gore/Bruckehimer/Depp triangle. Or they're smoking crack. :)

I saw The Lone Ranger on Sunday and I loved it. It was action-packed, a nice plot-filled movie and the ending sequence was quite the ride. And I'm picky! I wasn't that excited about the end result of Monsters University.

I think you're missing out by not seeing this on the big screen.

Some of the scenes, shot in the Southwest, make you think like maybe you are there in the old west.

Yep, much of the movie was filmed here in NM. Johnny Depp is here again filming another movie. The film has been really popular out here. I haven't seen it.

We are SO looking forward to seeing this movie!

Frankly, I'm always worried when the critics like a movie. It's always been my experience that many critics are just bitter that they didn't make it into the movie business. You know: Those who can, do. Those who can't, criticize those who do.

I don't care what they say.....I'm seeing this movie, in the theater! I've seen the previews & have been waiting (rather impatiently) for this summer to see it & some movie critic can't change my mind. It is my Dream Movie! Johnny Depp, cowboys & indians....sigh, that's all I need.:cloud9:

Liked the first POTC, didn't like the others. This movie looks dumb. Maybe I'll watch it on DVD or instant streaming eventually.

We just saw the movie. It did have its moments, but the transcontinental railroad doesn't go anywhere near Texas, and Promontory Summit is in Northern Utah and doesn't look anything like Monument Valley, which looks more like, well, Carsland (for some strange reason. :lmao:)

Our teenage grand kids, who have never been in that part of the country really enjoyed the movie. Truth to tell, 17-yr-old DGD gives two thumbs up for any movie with Johnny Depp.

My favorite character in the movie was Silver, the gorgeous white horse. I had to explain to the DGK's about Tonto's quip when Silver reared up on his hind legs.

Loved the music. Brought back memories of the old(!) t.v. series. Yes, I'm an old fogey.

:rotfl: Maybe you're taking it all a little too literally....

But that's okay. I'm from Virginia. When "Pocohontas" came out, with it's soaring purple cliffs and rolling hills, my 10yo son leaned over and whispered, "I dont' think they've ever been to Jamestown, Mommy." :upsidedow Indeedy.

LOVED IT!

It's one of those movies that has so much going on, like POTC, that I'll need to watch it a few times to get the whole story line. Of course, Johnny Depp was awesome, but The Lone Ranger himself was quite the pleasure! Great movie!

wow, I had never seen that. Thanks for posting it.

Ebert: "This is the type of movie Disney SHOULD be making."

I just saw that video for the first time about a month or so ago, when it was posted in some article about Return of the Jedi's 30th anniversary. I loved that. And how strange was that, remembering that back then, Disney was making terrible movies? Now they're the ones making a Star Wars movie!

That was the best part of Siskel & Ebert, or any critic. You don't have to agree with them all the time (and I don't think there's any critic I agree with 100% of the time), but I respect the ones who still understand the joy of going to the movies, and can appreciate what that's worth as much as what's onscreen.

My mom calls those critics, "The ones who still buy the popcorn..." :thumbsup2

In all fairness, if he really was "above" doing the review, then he wouldn't have done one.

He did review both Scooby-Doo movies.

He hated the first: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/scooby-doo-2002

He hated the second movie slightly less: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/scooby-doo-2-monsters-unleashed-2004

He never claimed that the movies were beneath him, simply that he was never a Scooby-Doo fan growing up, and nothing about the first film enticed him into becoming a fan now. He said there were probably reviews written by Scooby-Doo fans that were better informed about the material than his review was, and suggested those fans find those reviews instead.

When he reviewed the second movie, he admitted that he'd written a particularly harsh review of the first film. He wasn't crazy about the sequel either, but he didn't hate it as much as he hated the first one, which is the only reason why he gave it an extra star.

They were actually very fair reviews. They were negative, but he gave his reasons why and even admitted that he simply wasn't the audience for these movies.
