"You want to ride Dinosaur again?" - New 10/21 - The End!

Time for lucky #13...

IMG_3318.jpg

Alex got out of school yesterday and doesn't start summer school/camp until after the 4th of July so my updates may be few & far between until then... I'll try my best. Luckily Zach started camp this week, but it's only T/W/TH mornings.

In other news... We are going camping this weekend!! Our first time since I was 7 months pregnant with Alex (that trip was a mistake - having to pee all night long when you are sleeping in a tent is no fun:scared1:)! I'll post a little mini-TR when we get back. :thumbsup2 It's been raining here for days - today was the first nice day in a while - let's hope the weather holds out for us this weekend!!

I love the idea of watching fireworks from the beach in pj's! That is going to be such a great memory for the boys.

Hey Scrappie!

Sorry I've not been around too much lately... life's getting in the way of my DIS-time!!

So glad Jeff & Karen arrived... so awful that the ex spoiled things for them... and disappointed Alex and Zack in the process! Too bad adults can't always act like adults...

Sounds like that swim time with Dad and Uncle Jeff was just what the kids needed after all that tension...

Uh-Oh... sand in the p.j.'s... not good!! :rotfl:

Oh very nice photos of the fireworks! And what a relaxing way to enjoy them. Glad the rest of your party was able to get together with you. Sorry it didn't all work out, but it still seemed like a good end to the evening!

Hope you have a great time camping!!! We had a great time even with a little rain. Just make sure you constantly check the inside of the tent and keep the sleeping bags elevated unless you are in them!!! I am sure the rain won't dampen the whole trip -- it is fun being inside the tent with the rain pooring down!!! We have been a few times with weather like that!! :rotfl:

Ugghhh, I can't believe the kids weren't able to come to Disney over a cell phone. :confused3 What a shame!

I love that you were able to see the Illuminations fireworks from the CBR beach! How cool!

It was a really nice treat!

Nice update! Glad Jeff and Karen finally arrived! Have fun camping!

Thanks - DH is already starting to worry about the predicted 50% chance of t-storms! :scared:

Scrappie? :confused3 I'm flattered, but my skills are not up to par with hers. ;)

I'm hoping any rain we get will just be a passing shower or two... We don't rough it, even when we are roughing it... We sleep on air mattresses - so hopefully that will keep our stuff up high enough. And "the whole trip" consists of one night. :rolleyes1 We are just trying it out - Alex is so afraid of animals that he thinks they are going to come in our tent and get us. We just want to try it out, toast some marshmallows and hopefully have a good time. If it works out, we'll be able to do it again! :thumbsup2 It'll be a lot of work for one night, but well worth it if things go well.

I love this picture. Alex looks so peaceful, cuddled up with Daddy and his special Disney book, wearing his p.j.s.:goodvibes

So sorry about the cousin drama.:sad2:Some people act more like children than their children. I'm sending :wizard: that the August visit works out.

Whew! Okay, I just read through all 18 pages (didn't manage the 65 page PTR, sorry). I came over from someone on here's TR, but I'm not sure who anymore. Apparently you guys all make up a group and visit each others. :goodvibes

Now let me see if I can remember all of my comments at 1am.

I am loving reading your TR with your boys who are really close in age to mine (my DSs are 7 and 4). We are now where you were last year. Well, kind. DS4 JUST turned 4. But he'll be starting his last year of preschool this fall and DS7 is going into 2nd grade. :sad1: I can't believe they are already this big.

I think you are :thumbsup2 for keeping the Autism awareness cards with you. I don't think very many people really have any idea about Autism and I wish more did (though I am very happy for all of the recent Autism awareness information). I personally am trying to learn all I can. From what I can tell, I think DS7 has some behaviors that might put him somewhere on the very end of the spectrum, but there's never really been a need to find out. I may even be wrong. I'm also really interested in the connection between Autism and Giftedness (I know you said Alex was really smart). I'm a teacher by trade (without a job currently, but still a teacher!) and I'm hoping to get certified Gifted when I do finally get a job. Anyway, I don't want to hijack your TR and I don't want to start to sound weird when I don't really know enough about what I'm talking about, but I just wanted to say I'm very impressed. :) Also, I agree with everyone else that ALL kids have meltdowns at Disney. Anyone that has ever had young children at Disney has no business starring.

I'm so sorry that you BILs ex caused so much trouble for your children. I know mine don't deal well with disappointment either. It seems really silly to take Disney World away over a cell phone.

I absolutely LOVE Kaki Gori's. We will definitely be getting one (or more) on our upcoming trip. And THANK YOU for mentioned sharing the CS meals. I know I'd thought of it some time in our planning, but I'd also forgotten it and it's a great idea for us too. DS4 never eats much and I don't plan on ordering him his own meal very often. I just need to make a note so I don't forget again. :thumbsup2

We are doing WCC this trip and I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I wanted to go the last time we were there, but either forgot or couldn't get an ADR. So I'm excited to go this time! :yay:

We always do Garden Grill, but aren't this time. DH wanted to do something different (and we'll be with a lot of family a lot of the time). I'm glad your boys had a good time. :cool2:

I CAN'T WAIT to try TSM. But I think that is a feeling anyone who is planning a trip to WDW and hasn't been on TSM before feels. :cool1:

I SO wish my DS4 was just a little taller. He was 41 1/4 at his checkup a couple weeks ago, so I have NO hope for 44 inches by September. He is really not going to be happy about missing EE. I'm almost thankful that SM is closed so I don't have to endure that argument. Thank goodness he is tall enough for everything else except RnRC (which I don't even think his 48 1/2 inches brother and his brother's friend who is coming with us-and is the same height as DS7) will brave. It would be so much easier if he was 44. Alas, next trip I guess. :confused3

Okay, I know I had more comments, but my tired brain isn't functioning anymore. Looking forward to the rest of your TR!

ETA: One more thing I just remembered: I TOTALLY got the "Where's Jeff?" reference. As soon as I read it the first thing I thought of was the Wiggles and the song is still in my head. DS7 was a HUGE fan and we saw them in concert twice (I am so upset about the loss of Greg that I never told the boys and we haven't bought any DVDs with Sam...not mad at them or anything, I just don't want to watch without Greg). DS4 liked them as well, but not nearly as much. If they happen upon a DVD they will still watch them (even though DS7 saying he's too old, he watches). I am very sad that they are pretty much "too old" now (and that Disney doesn't carry them in the morning anymore...I actually miss a lot of old Disney shows. Did anyone ever watch PB&J Otter? I LOVED  that show and it never even came out on DVD. It just doesn't exist anymore). ANYWAY...just wanted you to know that I was right there with you.

This was a really nice night!! The cousin drama was a bit much for us to handle but fortunately we were all able to move on the next morning. :thumbsup2

Good luck with the new certification! I think there's a connection between autism & giftedness in some kids. (Obviously there's a huge range of ability.) We explain Alex's autism to him as having difficulties in certain areas but being really, really smart in other areas (spelling, memorizing things).

Kaki Gori's are awesome!! We had some snow cones this weekend and I was very disappointed after having the real thing at Epcot!

You guys will have a great time at WCC!! Garden Grill was fun, but there are so many other choices - I guess you can't eat at your favorites every time or you'd never get to experience new places, right?

Can you get some REALLY tall shoes?? Stuff them with napkins??

Hello Everyone!

We had a lovely, but wet, weekend camping and visiting one of our favorite places... Story Land! It's in the White Mountains of NH. They offer free return tickets if you arrive at the park during the last 3 hours of the day so we had planned to enter the park at 2pm on Saturday then spend the whole day yesterday. The weather looked ominous so we decided to check in at the campground (2pm check in time) and get our tent set up before any rain came in. Fortunately we were able to get it set up, but unfortunately, we didn't make it to Story Land on Saturday. The kids took it exceptionally well. The sky opened up and it POURED right around 3:00 when we were in the car on the way to the park. :headache:

We drove around a bit and got the kids Happy Meals (Alex asked if we couldn't go to Story Land could they get Happy Meals.). By the time we made it back to the campground, about an hour later, the rain had stopped. Tim made a nice fire and we roasted a few marshmallows. Then the sky opened up again and we hid out in the tent for about a half hour. The fire made it through the storm and we emerged to decent weather for the rest of the night. We had a few more marshmallows and explored the river in front of our site. It was a really cool river with huge rocks - Zachary loved it! At one point, he was out there with Tim and got a bit ahead of him and got into one of the wetter areas. Tim had on his sneakers (I forgot to pack his crocs) so he could't go after him. :scared: Tim was getting a little annoyed that Zach wouldn't listen to him and come back... Other than that it was a great time.

Sunday morning we got up and went to breakfast right at the entrance to the campground. After that we packed up our gear and headed to Story Land. We arrived at Story Land shortly after the park opened. The kids led the way and we hit all their favorite rides. It wasn't crowded at all because of the weather - more rain was predicted for Sunday. It showered a couple times briefly until it started raining pretty good around 2:00. The kids picked their favorite two rides, The Polar Coaster & Bamboo Chutes, as our last rides and we were out of there well before 3:00. We got back home to our house around 6:00. Unfortunately with all the moisture, we have to unpack all of our gear and figure out how to get it dried out. The weather calls for showers all week. Let's hope this weather pattern changes before the 4th of July weekend!!

I'm uploading pictures to photobucket right now & I'll post them shortly.

I'm also working on my next TR update. :thumbsup2

I'm sorry to say I didn't even bring my camera to Story Land... with the threat of rain I just decided to leave it behind and enjoy the day. But we did take a few from camping:

Ooooooooowwwwwwww.....nice camp site by the river. Is that the campground near the outlets and really close to a KFC?

If we go to Storyland this year it won't be until Danica can sit up by herslf I think.

Sounds like a fun camping weekend! That looks like an awesome place to camp...a river to explore, woods, campfires...YAY!

I think we have the same tent....just looking at the pics. Does yours have dividers to make "rooms" inside?

Packing up damp gear is never fun...especially knowing you have to do it all over again when you get home. Been there!

We head out on the 11th for our big 10-day camping trip. I LOVE to camp with the boys....glad to know there's another brave tent-mom out there! :thumbsup2

What a gorgeous river. Did the boys do any fishing? I keep seeing A River Runs Through It in my mind.

We really need to take our boys camping. We keep saying we're going to, but haven't done it yet. Maybe this fall. It looks like you had a great time.

I LOVE the White Mountains. Never been to Story Land, though. I'll have to ask my dad about it. He grew up in New Hampshire, so we get up there when we can, but I haven't been since my kids were born.

I'm dying to take them to Boston and the White Mountains (love the Old Man!) but we're going to wait until they're a little older.

I think we're planning 2011 actually. I have a cousin graduating from Law School and his brother graduating from the University of New Hampshire then, and their mom is throwing them a big party.

Can't wait for your next installment!

We were at the Glen Ellis Family Campground - just past the intersection where Route 16 turns right to go to Story Land. Just past the Dairy Queen on the corner. We've been there before so we knew it was nice (at least it was 9 years ago) and they don't allow dogs for short term campers, which is an issue for Alex. It was a lot of fun - but I'm sure you won't be camping for a while... ;)

No dividers in our tent. Tim jokes that it looks like Dunkin Donuts. :rotfl:

You are braver than me... 10 days! I'm thinking 2 nights for our next trip. :rolleyes1

Zach likes to go fishing with Tim, but they didn't do any this weekend. We saw one guy fly fishing in the river. Maybe on our next camping adventure. :goodvibes

Sorry to break the news, but the Old Man fell off the mountain a few years ago. :sad1: He's still on our license plates though. So I guess there's no hurry to get here. But you should check out Story Land when you come - the sooner the better for that. This was the first year that I've felt our year's are numbered... The kids had fun, but it wasn't quite like years past. Somehow we got out of there after only about 4-5 hours - usually it's a day and a half... :confused3
